Star Trek: The Next Generation - Technical Manual
Star Trek: The Next Generation - Technical Manual
by Michael Okuda
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Great details and backstory, 21 April 2014
I just restarted watching The Next Generation and discovered this again on my shelf. I love the detail of the ship coupled with backstory on why sets were designed the way they were or how they conceived the ship. If you want to know exactly where everything is and how it works on the NCC 1701-D then this book is for you.

To Seek Out New Life: The Biology of "Star Trek"
To Seek Out New Life: The Biology of "Star Trek"
by Athena Andreadis
Edition: Hardcover

2.0 out of 5 stars Sort of interesting, 21 April 2014
I love Star Trek and was fascinated to find this on what could or could not be possible (e.g. transportation). However, it was not what I expected. Part of the fascination with Star Trek is the idea that many things could eventually be possible. And the fact that this is a fictional series, so maybe we shouldn't be too picky. She seems to know what she is talking about in terms of the science but it seems she set out to prove that Star Trek is all hogwash, disappointing.

Desigual Volteo Men's Jacket Verde Oliva Medium
Desigual Volteo Men's Jacket Verde Oliva Medium

3.0 out of 5 stars cool jacket, bit too cool, 21 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love the color and it fits well, but the "cool" zippers are a bit much. There's designer and then there's difficult to use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first, 21 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Yossi [DVD] [2012] (DVD)
Eytan Fox's movies are wonderful stories of gay life in Israel. Yossi and Jagger was fantastic, desolate and well acted. This movie picks up10 years later. It was ok. It would have been better with more connection to the first movie to see more of how people have or have not moved on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Downtown is down, 21 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I loved the first couple of seasons, but now it seems Downtown is flailing for story lines. This Christmas special was ok, it does fill in details of what has happened and continues the story lines we last left, but nothing too exciting. And even the actors seem bored at times. At some point, spectacular settings and costumes can't carry the day.

The Nine Tailors (Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries)

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious mystery, 21 April 2014
I just finished The Nine Tailors, the first of the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries I have read, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminds me a bit of Agatha Christie, with so many red herrings thrown in and convoluted stories you really don't know what happened until the very end. And there are a few plot twists thrown in to boot. If you like reading mysteries set in small English villages in the 1930s or so, this is for you. Now on to the next of the series...

The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England
The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England
by Ian Mortimer
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.48

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and unique, 30 May 2013
Living in another time has always fascinated me, but what is it really like? And what are the advantages and disadvantages? Ian Mortimer takes a very close look at Elizabethan England from all angles, using extensive contemporary documentation to describe the facts of life there-food, clothing, politics, and more, rather than what we have heard as myths through the ages. I highly recommend it! And I've already ordered his other book looking at Medieval England.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating History of Names and of London, 18 Jan. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was originally published about 50 years ago, so it not only talks about why streets have the names they do, but also gives us a look at post-WWII London. While reading it, you really feel as if you are traveling the boroughs as the authors are. I read the book just prior to a recent trip to London and it was very helpful in explaining the names. I often walk around London and wonder where the street names come from. If you enjoy London and are interested in the history of names, this is definitely worth a read.
