1.0 out of 5 stars Really Poor Desgn, 20 April 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pre-amble:
I've never owned a laptop backpack before, only the traditional bags & the Ibex has never left the house.

The design of this is simply awful for a supposedly premium brand whose main job is transporting a laptop. The product "boasts" of a feature called Casebase. This is apparently a reinforced floor in the backpack which keeps the base flat & prevents it toppling. nice idea but it simply doesn't work for two reasons:

1) It appears to be made from a Dairylea cheese slice covered in nylon, with all the strength & rigidity that implies.

2) To save space in transit, Wenger fold the base up against the back. When tightly packed this creates a hard crease in both the shell of the backpack.

When I say a hard crease what I really mean is a HARD CREASE. So hard that the backpack wants to adopt this position by default & no amount of cheese is going to keep it flat. Especially as said cheese has also been folded in the process. The only way to keep the base flat is to fully load the base of the centre compartment with something soft & ram it down. Not something you want to be doing with your jacket & I really don't want to be carrying the extra ballast of a couple of bath sheets just to make the product work. So the upshot of all this is if placed on the floor & let go, the bag will topple over - every time.

As an aside, the base has no protection whatsoever. No little rubber pads or reinforcement to reduce wear & tear. The material itself will take all the punishment. Then there's the subject of rain & commuting. I've never been to Switzerland so maybe they don't have either over there but unfortunately in the UK we do. So on a rainy day you can't place the bag on the pavement or on the floor of a bus or train carriage. The material will soak up any moisture as there's no barrier preventing it.

So as I said, this hasn't even made it out of the house & will be going straight back - not to Amazon I should stress. Although the issue seems to be introduced by the manufacturer so where you buy won't make a difference.

On the face of it a nice, light, compact board but:

The cover is so thin that when ironing, the mesh "board" leaves a diamond imprint on everything.

No instructions or guide enclosed so you have to try to work out how the rest works. I couldn't find any way to securely stand my Tefal iron so ended up with it on the already small board. Having since seen pics of another manufacturer's product, it appears that the iron's heel is supposed to rest in the hole with the hot sole plate sitting on two little silicone rubber dots. No idea if this works as my iron's heel it too wide for the cut-out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Basic BT Speaker, 24 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is based on a quick unboxing & setting up as it's a gift. I'll update if anything changes in use.

First thing of note when it comes out of the box is how light it is. Never a good sign where speakers are concerned. Power is provided by a micro USB AC Adapter, there is no internal battery but it takes 4 x AAs (not supplied).

It paired easily but apparently only to a single device. So bit of a pain if you want to connect more than one as you have to initiate the pairing procedure each time you change device.

The on/off switch is a rather awkward slide & the unit makes an annoying click every time playback is started or stopped. It also seems to lose the first second or so of the first track.

Sound is OK but not very loud but that's not necessarily a bad thing in a teenager's room!

OK if you can get one cheaply as I did (£26) but certainly not worth the £70-80 currently being asked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Product With No Support Worthy of the Name, 13 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was purchased to add 5GHz support that the otherwise excellent Billion 7800n lacks. Sadly the 5GHz signal is so poor as to be unusable unless standing next to the router.

2.4GHz is also some 5-10dB down on the Billion as measured with inSSIDer. Asus' official forums suggest that the wifi signal was significantly reduced by a firmware update. So this may explain why early reviews praised it. Having said that, I know of one other user that has also tried this in place of a Billion & reported equally good 2.4GHz coverage. So maybe there are issues with quality control & it's pot luck if you get a good one. That would certainly go some way to explaining the great disparity in user reviews.

There seems to be some issue with the firewall. Blocking Google ad servers causes pages calling those servers to stall or not load at all.

Unfortunately ASUS tech support seems to be limited to the "Try a reset" variety & asking questions that were answered in the original support request. There appears to be no UK support & responses direct from Taiwan seem to be limited to one every 24 hours. Even if you reply to them immediately it will be another 24 hours before you receive the next pearl of wisdom.

Both the latest official & beta firmware was tried with no improvement in either of my issues so sadly, it's going back.

On the plus side, the web interface is probably the best I've seen. Sadly it has been changed significantly since the product launch but no new manual provided since April 2012. Even tech support send you screen shots from the original manual that look nothing like what you see.

For what it's worth, I've worked with computers for 30 years. While I'm no networking expert I do know how to set up a router. So it's always disappointing when "tech support" treats everyone as if they've just crawled out of a cave...

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Tat, 10 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this specific item, rather than the many alternatives on a certain auction site for less than half the price, for two reasons:

It specifically states leather (& superior at that) rather than the usual plastic tat.

The magnetic clasp is clearly shown attached to the covering flap rather than to the main body, where it will get in the way of answering a call.

So what did I receive? A cheap & nasty plastic/vinyl offering with the clasp on the main body of the case. Stitching was poor, there were signs of glue seepage & the case didn't quite cover the phone. When closed the RHS of the casing that holds the phone in place protrudes beyond the "leather", giving little to no protection. The retaining casing is also white, so again not as shown.

Plus points? Well it was delivered quickly & when asked to supply the correct case (which the seller clearly doesn't have), a refund was promptly offered. The seller also waived the return allowing it to go straight to the bin without a visit to the Post Office.

I can't comment on the screen saver or stylus as they were also binned unused.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Noticeable Improvement Over Stock Bulbs, 5 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Title says it all really. Had a bulb fail on my E46 BMW so thought I'd give these a try & replace all four. There may well be some tiny increase in brightness &/or reach but in practical terms, I see no difference in either dipped or main beam from behind the wheel.

One star because when you turn the switch, they do light up.

Nice idea but being too small, the cats simply jump out of the box/tray rather than walk on it. This results in more mess than not having the mat at all.

Panasonic NN-CT552WBPQ Combination Microwave Oven, White

Firstly let's dispel the myth (lie?) that this is a combination oven. It does NOT have a heating element for convection cooking & instead uses the grill to heat the oven. So what would you expect to happen if trying to bake under a grill, a burnt top with an uncooked underneath? Correct - & that exactly what you get here. So if you're looking for an small extension to your main oven then look elsewhere.

It's noisy & rather poorly built. The LCD display would be fine at eye level but on a counter, you get an overall green glow with all of the display faintly lit due to it's poor angle of view.

I tried a jacket potato just using convection & the skin didn't crisp as in a conventional oven. I've also tried a Yorkshire pudding & that failed to rise, although gave the impression it has by forming a crust with a huge air pocket underneath. So as above, forget baking in it.

I've also tried a jacket potato using the dedicated programme of mixed cooking & it was no different to one microwaved only.

But the real concern is that today, it near burst into flames! Tried heating some popcorn & smoke poured out after 90 seconds. The trim holding the door glass in place has melted onto the cavity. Spoke to a Panasonic service agent who said this is known issue when heating "low moisture" items & so not covered by warranty. Thee manual says that microwaving low moisture foods is not recommended but certainly doesn't say you shouldn't do it for fear of setting fire to the kitchen. So many of the things I've done with previous microwaves can't be done in this Panasonic. No heating wheat bags. No warming of the kid's microwavable "hot water bottle" toys. No warming of plates & definitely no popcorn!

The supplier (not Amazon) has agreed to replace it but I'm loathe to take a another microwave that appears unfit for purpose. Note that the same applies to the 562 & 579 which are just different variations & may well also apply to all current Panasonics. I've asked Panasonic to comment on their combination microwave that appears unfit for purpose as either a convection oven or microwave but have yet to have a response...

I strongly recommend you avoid this particular model & carefully research any other model from Panasonic.

Update
Given the woeful lack of white microwave ovens on sale we accepted a replacement (stainless steel I can understand but who on earth buys silver coloured plastic?). Since then I have discovered that you can't use the delay function together with any of the cooking programs. So if you want to throw a jacket potato in to be ready when you come home - computer says no!

So to recap; if you want an "oven" that can't bake, a microwave that can't cook foods specifically intended to be microwaved, don't want to auto-cook while you're out & don't ever want any support from the manufacturer, this is the product for you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, 30 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this to mount a Toshiba 32DV504B purchased at the same time. The plate that screws to the wall wasn't flat, the screws to attach to the TV were too short & the supplied wall plugs were 45mm whereas the screws were 65mm. So all in all completely useless.

Amazon were unable to help as it's a "fulfilled by" item straight from their partner. I contacted the supplier direct through their own web site & was ignored. :(

So as I can't wall mount it as intended, both the TV & mount are going back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear..., 17 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Firstly, this is just a review if the screwdriver as that's what it was bought for.

Hard to believe that this is a Bosch product it's so poorly thought out:

1) There is no variable speed on the trigger. It's on or off so if you want to start slowly while your screw grips, you're out of luck.

2) There is no torque adjustment (unless you buy a replacement chuck assembly). So you need to be extremely careful not to screw too far or destroy the screw head.

3) It has LEDs to indicate which direction is selected but they only light when you pull the trigger & can see which way it's turning anyway.

4) It's top heavy & the handle is very small. Unless you have a child's hands you have to place your forefinger along the barrel & hold with just three fingers.

5) The supplied bits aren't magnetised to hold screws in place.

6) Some good news - almost. It has a little LED to illuminate the work area. Great for the back of cupboards even if it is manky, dull yellow colour. Shame it only comes on AFTER you pull the trigger!

7) A minor gripe in light of the above but it comes in an oversized wooden box. But the insert is only thin card & won't last.

As I said, I haven't used the corkscrew attachment but was disappointed to find that the housing was made of plastic.

This was supposed to be my father's Christmas present & I also bought one for myself but they'll both be going back. I haven't always had the greatest relationship with my father but I don't dislike him enough to inflict this upon him...
