Aladdin 0.95 Litre Bento Lunchbox, Blue
Aladdin 0.95 Litre Bento Lunchbox, Blue

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot picnics., 25 April 2015

Great for hot packed lunches in the winter - caused me to spend a lot of time playing with curries and bento design. Won't keep your food hot indefinitely of-course, but good for 4 hours or so.

La historia con Playmobil
La historia con Playmobil
by Richard Unglik
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £25.25

5.0 out of 5 stars History and playmobil - what more could you ask for?, 25 April 2015

My Spanish speaking, and playmobil obsessed, niece loved this at Christmas and didn't put it down for at-least a day. The broad snapshot of world history was also pretty fair and well thought out.

Garmin nuvi 2595LMT 5" Sat Nav with UK and Full Europe Maps, Free Lifetime Map Updates and Free Lifetime Traffic Alerts and Bluetooth

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll wonder how you did without it., 25 April 2015

This is a superb piece of technology, that I'd hate to be without now. The mapping is excellent - with regular "free" updates (I think that the updates are actually from discrete advertising on the maps, which itself is actually quite useful - I like to know where the nearby pubs and petrol stations are!), reasonably intuitive touch-screen controls, and voice controls that I thought would be a gimmic, but turn out to work really well and I probably use more than the touch screen now. I also very much like the ability to select items such as petrol or shops en-route, and to have not just warning of speed cameras, but a display of the speed limit and traffic information (which works well on motorways, perhaps a bit less well on A roads). For a little over £100, I can't fault it.

Well, I may as well list the snags such as they are: I'm sure Garmin have shares in the M6 toll so it keeps trying to use it anywhere in the West Midlands, the mapping is not quite as good in Spain as it is in countries further north, and unlike my much older Nuvi 300 it replaced, there aren't many add-ons available for it (the AA good pub guide was a favourite that I miss).

R101: A Pictorial History
R101: A Pictorial History
by Nick Walmsley
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic illustrations of a little known piece of history., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As an amateur student of aviation history, the story of the R101 has fascinated me for some years. This book was a real find as a supplement to more detailed reading such as Masefield or Leason. Whilst those books are far more detailed - this shows what everything looked like, with very well presented photographs from the whole history of the R101 creation and eventual disaster. It doesn't tell the story on its own, but it brilliantly illustrates the story told well, but poorly illustrated in other more scholarly books.

Ministry of Space
Ministry of Space
by Warren Ellis
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant storytelling of an alternative past and future., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ministry of Space (Paperback)
This is a brilliant piece of graphic novel writing. An alternative past and future where post WW2 Britain, instead of becoming the liberal multi-ethnic society it actually became - took some of both the best and the worst of the defeated Nazi Germany to become a space faring superpower. The story it tells is convincing, beautifully told and drawn. It's not really for children - but doesn't pretend to be, but a great read for anybody who grew up reading Dan Dare or Commando.

Mudder 6 in 1 Sport Watch with Heart Pulse Rate Monitor Calorie Counter
Mudder 6 in 1 Sport Watch with Heart Pulse Rate Monitor Calorie Counter

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, cheap, exercise watch., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as an inexpensive exercise watch. It's a bit chunky, and the system for estimating calories burned from your pulse take a bit of getting the hang of. But, at under £10, and so far I've failed to break it, I can't fault the thing. The display is clear, the stopwatch easy to use, and the price excellent.

(Later edit, here); however I discovered that it's not at-all waterproof, and it died after a couple of immersions in water on an obstactle race.

Once...
Once...

3.0 out of 5 stars Well read, but far too heavily abridged., 25 April 2015

This review is from: Once... (Audio CD)
I perhaps bought this slightly in error - I enjoy James Herbert's novels for all the things everybody else does: a well written mixture of drama, horror and eroticism. This audiobook however, has been far too heavily abridged (I mistakenly believed that I was buying an unabridged version), and much of the quality normally evident in Herbert's writing was missing. Whilst Robert Powell read it very well, he was reading a flawed text and I finished it annoyed and wanting to hear it again properly: in less than 3 hours, you just can't do justice to a book like this.

A Fall of Moondust
A Fall of Moondust
by Arthur C. Clarke
Edition: Audio CD
Price: £9.12

4.0 out of 5 stars A fair adaptation of a superb book., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A Fall of Moondust (Audio CD)
A good, but not exceptional reading of one of my favourite Arthur C Clarke novels. It suffers from some occasionally odd pronunciations, and the american actor reading the book isn't brilliant at accents - but those are relatively small criticisms. It was a very enjoyable listen, and faithful to a much loved book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy reading analysis of a great man., 25 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Feynman (Paperback)
I enjoyed this - the relatively highbrow modern style of graphic novels to tackle serious subjects is good. Having read Feynman's own autobiographies it was interesting to contrast his own perspective on his life, with this simplified and very readable perspective. A jolly good read.
