3.0 out of 5 stars good for the money but max volume dreadfully low, 19 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As my title says..it is good for the money. Smooth to use and internet connection is good. It takes almost all the apps I have installed on my more expensive tablet but I was surprised it does not have bluetooth. A very sad omission. But worst of all, the volume on maximum is so low, it is hard to hear. I have installed a volume increasing app which puts it up by 21 per cent, as claimed by the app. It helps but not anywhere near enough. The sound is also mono. If you put a case round it, it hides the speaker adding to it woes.
Connection to a PC is via a normal USB cable which is sensible. It charges quickly but the battery does not last that long, which isn't surprising considering the price. But if phone batteries can last longer, why not on something that is considerably larger?
This is great for occasional use and then it is best to use it with headphones or external speakers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Elton, you will always be Great!, 17 Sept. 2013
The first time I heard Elton John was Take me to the pilot, as I walked down Carnaby Street in 1970. In an era of extraordinary creativity, this stood out as nothing else. So many great songs by Elton John since and all these years later he still sounds different, still sounds like a man with new ideas. He remains a master pianist as can be heard on this album. Even his yesteryear songs seemed to have a tinge of sadness and there is sadness in these new tracks too. A sort of yearning and a battle against the odds.
This album cannot really compare to his young days but as a stand alone album, this is still magical. Great songs. The lyrics draw you close and make you think. They create a space around you that is personal and private. Keep going Elton. You will always be great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album since Black and White, 45 years ago, 16 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Hoodoo (Audio CD)
Forget all the recent albums by Tony Joe, all in search of a new identity. This new album is back to his best. Starting with the first album I bought, Black and White, almost 45 years ago, I rate this as his best since. The crackle guitar, the fuzz, the well placed notes and that grumpy voice are all back. The bluesy beat; a bit country at times but without that unfortunate twang that is associated with country, his voice sounds hardly different from all those years ago. Perhaps a bit more introspective, somewhat softer and without the grunts he employed in his younger days. With JJ Cale gone, Tony Joe is king of rhythm and laid-back. He is back to story telling in his unique way. Swamp is back. Blues is back.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the books everyone should read, 14 Sept. 2013

This review is from: Uncle Tom's Cabin (Kindle Edition)
I was read this by my father when I was very little and how often I was in tears! If you want to know how the slaves were treated this is a book which describes it all with beautiful writing, kindness and truth. Those who have forgotten how humans can treat their fellow humans, this will be a lesson not to be forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, 14 Sept. 2013

Can't beat the price of this. A whole load of tablets and one a day means will last a very long time.
Kelp contains vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and a huge amount of calcium. Iodine is the main reason for buying this which regulates the hormones in the Thyroid which regulates body metabolism and helps weight loss.
Good thing to buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very strong, okay for light shopping, 14 Sept. 2013

I didn't know what 18mu actually stood for, so took a chance. These bags are very thin and not very strong. They are okay for a bit of light shopping but carry a whole load, as you would with a supermarket provided bag, and you will be scrambling on the street picking up your goods.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely phone, 14 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Slightly larger than I expected, it is a lovely phone to hold and admire! The keyboard is clear and easy to use. The screen is big enough. Camera takes decent pictures. Music sounds pretty good for a phone. Bought phones more expensive than this but this exudes quality. Very pleased.
BUT..how mean can you get?? No USB cable. If it was a standard USB, that wouldn't be so bad, but this is a mini one. Costs over 2 quid to buy this separately. This bit of meanness cost the phone a star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats others hands down...most of the time, 23 July 2013
There are already quite a few reviews of this and I expect anyone contemplating buying this will read as many reviews as possible. All the reviews are helpful, so I am going to try and write one which does not repeat stuff; hopefully add a few thoughts.
This is the latest tablet from Samsung and slightly different in that it is 8 inches and not the usual 7 inch which proliferate the market. It seems available in white only but I prefer this as it seems to leave fewer fingermarks than the black. Shiny plastic of course as Samsung prefer but it makes holding it a bit slippery. I guess you get used to that eventually.
A quad core 1.6Ghz and 2GB Ram makes this fast, smooth and powerful. I have read reports that this is faster than the Nexus 7, though I cannot personally vouch for this.
Important to me is the fact it can take up to 64GB micro SD card. 32GB is now quite cheap and you could have several, movies on one, music on another and so on. It has an IR port as well for remote control though why anyone would use such a size for remote s beyond me.
For some reason Samsung have decided to put the two speakers at the bottom of the tablet rather than at the front which isn't clever! Sound is okay but not special.
This isn't a phone and can't be used as one although you can use Skype. Wifi but no 3G.
Cameras...5 megapixels on the front and 1.3 megapixel in the back. Not to send the heart racing. Video recording is 780p, less than most others and the heart still isn't racing!
Samsung customize Android a lot and with this you get a huge amount of settings. It can adjust reading mode lighting which is very useful. This has multi window mode so you can see more than one app side by side. The default icons are large but these can be customized. The pen is amazing in what it can do. You can even rest and move your palm on the tablet as you write and it doesn't affect the accuracy of the pen. Handwriting recognition is impressive. Could have made the pen a big longer for bigger hands but as with all things, you get used to it.
It has its own video and music players and supports a large number of formats. For video it supports DivX. It has a document software named Polaris which integrates with MS Office. It supports Google Chrome and as I use this on a laptop, I am really happy!
Video is sharp, great contrast, great blacks, but no full HD. I think for a screen this size, HD is a bit redundant. Gaming is good and fast, helped by its powerful processor. On this I have no complaints.
Battery life is okay but not as good as the iPad mini or the Nexus 7 but this could be explained by the powerful CPU. Perhaps 8 hours depending what you are using. You win some, you lose some.

This is a great tablet and an eye catcher. More positives than negative but a bit too expensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars You need this if you buy a Tenda N Router, 10 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good unobtrusive size. Easy to install but the onboard wireless adapter has to be disabled first. Having bought the Tenda N Router, I decided to go with this as generally it makes sense to buy separate parts from the same company to remove compatibility problems. It connects well to the router and up to now there are no dropout problems. My internet connection now shows 150mbps instead of the usual 54 but I can't say for sure this has done anything to improve my surfing speed. But psychologically I feel better! N Router and an N wireless adapter. I am up with the latest...well almost.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install, works okay but not much difference it makes!, 10 July 2013
First thing...this is a router only. Apologies to all who already know this. I didn't. I thought it was a modem router. So it means this has to be connected to your modem as it will not work on its own. Easy to set up, especially using the CD which comes with it. Tenda are good and a video by then on YouTube taking you step by step shows they are customer focused. However setting this up is not going to help unless you also buy the N adapter to stick into your PC/Laptop. Okay, the connection speed now shows 150mbps instead of 54 as was the case with the onboard wireless adapter, but I fail to see the difference in internet performance. May have improved a bit but if it has, it is marginal. However it should speed things up for those who interconnect PCs and peripherals via the router.
The equipment itself looks good quality and up to now has worked flawlessly. No dropouts.
