The late Claudio Abbado and the incomparable Marga Argerich interpret two of Mozart's most beloved piano concertos with the Luzern Festival Orchestra with truly overwhelming precision, and chamber music like delicacy leaving the listener transported into a realm of celestial beauty, evoking tears of bliss.
Highly recommended

Wagners bicentenary is celebrated by many excellent orchestras and artists, but towering above most of them is Jonas kaufmann, whose recording shines in all its splendour and beauty. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Another perfect hit, 9 Oct. 2013

This review is from: Verdi (Audio CD)
To me, Netrebko is still the sovereign soprano of our times, even though on some of this CD, she departs for the first time from dazzling coloratura areas and has progessed to more dramatic scenes, employing a new, lower, vocally deper voice, in paricular in Verdi's MacBeth, which is quite outstanding and very moving.. Her future as the dominant soprano star seems assured for many years with the prospect og her also singing Wagner as Elsa in Lohengrin in a few years. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rats in Brabant, Lohengrin in Bayreuth, 24 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The kontroversial Hans Neuenfels created an equally controversial mis-en-scéne of Wagners early opera, Lohengrin, in Bayreuth a few years ago, which has now become available on DVD in a masterful rendition with the rising German tenor, Klaus Florian Vogt, in the title role and Annette Dasch as his unhappy wife who cannot bear not to know the name of her beloved and by insisting on knowing it, precipitates his premature departure on his swan.
Musically, the opera is perhaps the most accesible of Wagner's operas and the orchestra here excels in presenting the beautiful score in all its splendour under the direction of the young conductor, Andris Nelsons. Vogt as the protagonist is outstanding, his voice and looks seem born to the role and may remind the listener of the prematurely deceased Fritz Wunderlich. Dasch is glorious as Elsa and the whole cast is in top form. You may have to accustom yourself to the foibles of Hans Neuenfels with rats being the courtiers and Elsa's lost brother literally being reborn out of the swan's huge egg, but once you have accepted this, your enjoyment and pleasure will be unadulterated. Highly recommended.Bought at Amazon.uk

4.0 out of 5 stars Donizetti and Fleming, an ideal combination, 13 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We all know L'Elisir d'amore und Lucia di Lammermoor, but how many of us,although lifelong lovers of opera, know Rosmonda d'Ingliterra?I didn't, but do now thanks to a weekly programme of opera on my local radio station where this rare Donizetti was presented and in this recording some months ago. It was a revelation. Gorgeous music streamed out of my loud speaker, cascades of coloratura, moving orchestration. Fleming, some 15 years ago, in 1996, sings the part of the hapless queen with purity, clarity and beauty which completely bowled me over. The plot is immaterial, the music is all. Buy it, as I did from Amazon.uk and enjoy it.

MEIN WUNSCHKONZERT - MANN,THOM
MEIN WUNSCHKONZERT - MANN,THOM
by Thomas Mann
Edition: Audio CD
Price: £13.02

5.0 out of 5 stars The music of a music loving Nobel prize winner, 20 Sept. 2010

This record is a selection by Thomas Mann of the music, that he heard all his life over and over again and loved with passion and deep understanding.
Mann was from very young a great admirer and connaisseur of the music of Wagner, whose prelude to the first act of Lohengrin is included here. Then follows recordings made by his two friends, Toscanini and Bruno Walter, conducting respectively Debussy's L'aprés midi d 'une faune and Beethoven's Leonore overture nr.3, works that Mann has described in Das Zauberberg and Doctor Faustus, relevant passages from which Mann reads with his inimitable voice. All in all, a fascinating document of the inner life of a genius, whose deep feeling for music he expresses in his old fashioned and higly cultured prose.
Higly recomended.
