5.0 out of 5 stars For Non Horsey People, 10 Feb. 2006
As a non horsey person, I would have to say that this book is fabulous, so detailed, well photographed and plenty of diagrams.
Yes, you've guessed it - I bought this book for a very young relative of mine and she loved it!!
So if you know someone that loves horses and just learning to ride - this is the book to buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THINKING OF PURCHASING A DETAILED ROAD MAP?, 9 Jan. 2004
This is the one for you!
As a female, I’m usually the passenger and chief map-reader on long journeys. I would recommend this Super Scale road map to anyone who finds themself in the same seat!
We thought it was about time to upgrade our original 10 year old spiral bound Ordnance Survey road map (it still lists the A14 as the A45). It’s that old!! The reason why we’ve never updated before is because we couldn’t find a road map on the market that could beat it for detail and clarity.
Philips/Ordnance Survey have excelled themselves with this excellent, highly detailed, Super Scale road map.
Due to the poor information about this map on Amazon and virtually zero information on other websites, I thought I would provide a few extra details about this map.
1. A3 paperback and most importantly SPIRAL BOUND. This facilitates ease of use considering it’s size ie each page folds completely flat.
2. The paper thickness of this road map is of excellent quality - each page is at least double the thickness/weight of lower priced road maps! In my opinion, you should not find individual pages tearing out and falling into your lap for a long time to come. :)
3. 2.25 miles to 1 inch (1:144000 scale) – at this magnification each road and track is clearly and individually detailed. This knocks the spots off the common, ‘inferior’ 3 mile to 1 inch road maps.
4. Within the 225 pages, there are literally thousands of tourist information symbols eg National Trust sites, English Heritage sites, Nature Reserves, Castles, Forts and Caravan sites, amongst others.
5. Fantastically clear land topography. Every wood, forest, village, hamlet etc is easily discernible. Hilly and mountainous areas are clearly defined above 300m/1000ft with 200ft coloured block contours.
To sum up.
If you didn’t know, Philips produce the ‘Navigator Britain’ road map series - which is consistently voted the Number One road map in Britain. In my opinion, the Philips/Ordnance Survey Super Scale road map is only one step down from the Navigator series - at half the price!!
All in all a fantastic replacement. Buy it and you should never lose your way again! :)
