From those that were there., 12 April 2013
The book is superbly written. It gives the battle from a purely British perspective taking quotes from the soldiers that were there. It doesn't just give information from an officer's or enlisted man's point of view but from a whole range of ranks of those that fought the battle. The book also gives overall information of the battle together with useful maps to draw everything together.
I have read the other books by Lyn MacDonald dealing with the First World War and the entire series helps bring the history of the war to modern day now that the last serving soldier has died.
