4.0 out of 5 stars terrific smartphone, 5 July 2011
i've just bought this phone as my first smartphone. i had a budget nokia beforehand and got sick of it. i wouldnt describe myself as knowledgeable with smartphones and their gadgets, although i did a fair amount of research to get this one. the close second was the HTC wildfire S. i didnt want a handset too large and the Ace is just about palm size meaning you can hold it in one hand and navigate the screen with your thumb. its practically the same size as an iPhone but significantly smaller than the HTC Desire and Galaxy i9000 S. the layout is intuitive and its just as well as the packaging doesnt include a detailed manual (although one is svailable from the Samsung website) the screen resolution isn't great and wallpaper tends to not come out very well. screen size is 3.5 inch, larger than the wildfire. there's tonnes of Android apps to install, some useful, some not so, and many are free. the phone speed is fairly good (its 800 MHz, again a marginally quicker processor than the wildfire) but you'll notice the baterry life drains pretty quick. i believe this is fairly common to smartphones as there is so much going on on the phone for the baterry to support. on the samsung, you can turn off wi-fi, blue tooth etc to save battery life. also recommended is reducing screen brightness.
in the end, i'm very happy with the phone. for the price, it's one of the best entry/mid level smartphones on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply brilliant, 30 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Helium (Audio CD)
i have a large chillout collection but i must say this stands out above the crowd. i was really impressed with the variety and intelligence of the compositions. a great deal of thought has gone into this moody and entrancing albumn. its simply a must have for any "chillout" fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant!, 27 Jan. 2011

alot of dubstep can sound like a broken dishwasher but ellie goulding manages to make the most of a slow, heavy beat with a tuneful uplifting 'feel-good' song complete with dreamy lyrics mixed in with just enough 'contrast' industrial noise that works well for me. my favourite dub!

3.0 out of 5 stars featured female artists make the albumn, 24 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Magnetic Man (Audio CD)
this is a good albumn overall, although for me the Kelly B & Angela Hunte tunes make it worth the buy. this is a good addition to any dubstep fan's colection - for me the tuneful & uplifting female vocals best compliment the raw dubstep apsect (songs 2,3,7,11)

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have, 11 Jan. 2011

if you're not familiar with London Elektricity, this is a must have for all D&B fans. essentially, there's a light D&B context to the songs, with an intelligent, tuneful and uplifting vibe. the problem i've found with chilled D&B is that alot of it is boring and monotonous. this avoids that pitfall and keeps you wanting to listen to the next track. a good addition to the collection

5.0 out of 5 stars good look, good sound, good price, 5 Jan. 2011
excellent product - ideal for livingroom. sound is true, crisp and with good range. it can get loud too (nearly 100 decibels). this purchase was a close run thing with the Logitech S715i and, to a lesser extent, the Altec Lansing inMotion max. however, for the price there's nothing better. it matters not that the iGroove HG is 2006 technology, good sound quality is good sound quality. the number of 4&5* amazon reviews speak for itself

4.0 out of 5 stars compelling viewing, 4 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Closer [DVD] (DVD)
like many stage plays that are adapted to film, the film receives mixed reviews. for me the writing is brilliant here and the acting does it justice, as you'd expect given the cast. the plot is very much about poeple ending up where they started but also role reversal in the cheated eventually coming out on top. its an interesting exploration of relationships portrayed quite simply with a cast of four. however, the film misses out of 5/5 as its a little flat in parts and has a slow start. if you enjoyed this, particularly with repsect to the excellent writing and strong, confrontational themes, you'll love Sleuth (again with Jude Law)

5.0 out of 5 stars a must buy for Scarlett Johansson fans, 22 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Match Point [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
i really enjoyed this film. apart from being a fan of Scarlett Johansson, who i'm afraid meets a rather sticky end in the film, the film deals with the struggles faced by Jonathan Rhys Meyers between his well to do new wife, in laws and, in many respects newly found high-life, and the passion he has for his 'love at first sight' mistress. when the latter gets pregnant and urges him to tell his wife, he makes a drastic desicion that almost exposes him. gripping stuff

5.0 out of 5 stars superb writing, 22 Nov. 2010

i absolutely loved this production. caine & law, the only two actors in the film, do justice to this brilliantly written film (or, in many respects, screened play). kenneth branagh directs and the film takes you on an emotional roller coaster of revenge and plotting. caine plays the cheated husband and law the wife's new flame. it's really a game of one-upmanship between the two. it all takes place in caine's modern abode making it similar to a play/theatre and thereby fully emphasising the writing and acting. if you're after something different and engaging this is easily one for the DVD collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars not in same league as snatch or lock stock, 6 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Rocknrolla [DVD] [2008] (DVD)
the cast apart from other things really lets this one down. tom wilkinson is not a convincing bad guy for me. certianly not in the same league as alan ford (snatch). the film is very stylised, which is typically guy richie, but unlike his better known films the plot wasnt good enough to hold my full interest. it lacks real substance. not a bad flick but probably not worth adding to the film collection
