5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For Parents of Boys, 15 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Boys today really are growing up in a hostile environment and Peter Lloyd's book is a wake up call to all parents. Have no doubt, modern feminism is wreaking revenge on our sons for the perceived historical evil of men - even Doris Lessing before she died felt moved to express her disquiet at the movement's effects on young boys. Peter's book lays out the research, stats and facts surrounding gender inequality in an eloquently objective manner, devoid of the shrill rhetoric usually associated with 'gender politics'.. and yes, even manages to make us laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.

When books are being turned away by publishers for being too 'anti-feminist' like 'Kill All Men' and the feminist narrative has become mainstream in the media (I'm looking at you BBC) it's amazing this book got published at all. Well done to all involved in getting it to press. A long overdue, astute and erudite book. May it have all the exposure and success it deserves.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Evil, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a writer, I needed Word because my other word processing programmes weren't formatting DOCs in a form acceptable to a third party programme (meat grinder at Smashwords). I didn't want to 'subscribe' to 'Office for Mac' and pay indefinitely for the rest of my life (it felt like selling my soul to the devil) so settled for this 3 year old version instead at FULL PRICE. I only ever wanted WORD and it does the job I bought it for, but my Mac has started crashing on a daily basis since installing the Office Suite - a problem I never had before - but I feel it is my penance for handing over money to Microsoft.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yogurt knows how you feel. Seriously?, 20 Jun. 2014
This review is from: I Am (DVD)
At it's heart the documentary is saying - the pursuit of wealth, is not the road to happiness and being nice to people will make the world a better place. Well blimey, hold the front page.

Apparently, your heart (your REAL heart - not your metaphorical one) can tell the future and live yogurt (yes yogurt) knows how you're feeling.. oh, and science 'facts' have been proven wrong in the past so don't listen to science 'facts.' This documentary is seriously confused about what Darwinism, empirical evidence and the peer reviews process is all about; using pseudo scientists to back up metaphysical 'evidence'.. of, well of what exactly?

It's rare I fail to sit through an entire DVD - I like to give everything a fair crack of the whip - but this pseudo science/spirituality, scientology-esce, mumbo jumbo made me squirm with embarrassment at the people featured in it - espousing their snake oil cure for the world's ills.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a 'link' film really, 2 May 2014
I liked the first film but this one was really just a repeat with a lot less going on. Jennifer Lawrence walks around looking pouty and sultry for two hours.. then it ends suddenly without any warning.
To be honest you could watch the next film without watching this one and never know you'd missed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must see for Coppola fans and film buffs, 28 Feb. 2014
The making of apocalypse now is movie making legend and you can see why after watching this documentary. All the more remarkable when you consider this was pre-CGI and the only special effects employed were the copious amounts of drugs and alcohol used by the cast and crew.
This is movie making Ernest Shackleton style - on the edge - sink or swim, and you can only admire Coppola for his sheer tenacity and balls. (although it *was* filmed by his wife so you'd kind've expect him to be painted in a good light).
I watched it twice then trawled the net for more background.. it's a shame they left out any reference to the fraught editing process after filming which took another three years nearly!
It skipped over a lot of the *really* gruesome details too, that I discovered later, like the purchasing of cadavers for the temple scene and the details behind the slaughter of the water buffalo towards the end.
Movie making will never be the same again.. and you're certainly left feeling conflicted about that.
A great piece of documentary making.

1.0 out of 5 stars Second Magic Mouse - same connection problems, 3 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the second Magic Mouse I've had and they have both had the same connection issues. Have trawled the forums and it seems to come down to one or both of two things:
1. Interference from other blue tooth devises.
2. Design floor in the battery compartment.
The first issue I haven't resolved yet, the second issue depends on the make of batteries you use - people seem to have differing success with various makes of batteries, but the only way to fix it is either experiment with lots of makes of batteries to see which suits your mouse - or jam bits of paper/tin foil in the battery compartment to pad it out.
Not brilliant for a device that cost this much!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical, dark, magical!, 11 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Snake Ropes (Paperback)
It's hard to add anything new to the previous excellent reviews other than to say, this book is original, evocative, unique, compelling, multi layered and multi faceted. Complex at times but well worth it. It's hard to pin down either geographically or historically, but it's eloquence will lift you above such earthly pondering and transport you to a lyrical and darkly magical world.. just turn second on the right and straight on till morning. Well done Jess.. and roll on `Cooking with Bones'!
