5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie, Stevie, Stevie, 11 Aug. 2003
This review is from: Trouble In Shangri-La (Audio CD)
Stevie is my saviour in bad times, in good times she is the power that invokes emotion, mysticism, lyricism, beauty, love, the macabre, peace and tranquility. She is everything, like life. She is my soundtrack. Never will an artist grasp me like Stevie has done. This album is possibly her best to date, im sure there's much more.
I can't wait. As for TISL every track is emersing and earth shattering.

Stevie Nicks - Her name conjures up so many memories, stricking and mystical sounds - And this Dvd shows Stevie at her most magical. The live performances staged with the magnificent Colorado Red Rocks in the backdrop prove to make a stunning, colourful and vibrant concert. The audience isnt overly big, which creates a close feeling, intimate to her fans. Her vocals are stunning, so powerful - drowning out the synths, backup singers and drums. Her trademark mysticism is very evident - white doves appear over the crowds before the show-stopping Edge of Seventeen. My favourite moments are her moving performance of Beauty and the beast, Has Anyone and also the stonking version of Stand Back and Edge of seventeen.
Stevie Fans must have this DVD! She looks beautiful, her soul pours out in this 1 hour special....Buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethereal and visually captivating, 20 July 2003
This review is from: The Hunger [VHS] (1983) (VHS Tape)
The basis of this film is to wow its viewers with its stylish, chique and beautiful visuals and its emotive soundtrack to the point where the plot acutally doesnt seem to make any difference to the films excess.
The acting is all exquisite, the sets depict wonderfully the lifestyle of the riche, nouveau-riche and aristocracy. Every aspect of the film compliments another, resulting in a combination so stunning both visually and soulfully. Erotic, beautiful and emotive. Hasnt aged at all. That other worldy, ethereal sensation never does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another new style for Madge!, 22 April 2003
This review is from: American Life (Audio CD)
I have to say that this album has immensely grown on me even during this, the first day I got the album. This album is a blend of edgy Madonna-esque electronica and chilled rock a la Red Hot Chilli Peppers style. It works for the entirety of the album, which in a way makes Die Another Day stand out as it sounds far more edgy than the others. The particularly good songs here are 'American Life/Hollywood/I'm so stupid/Nothing Fails/Intervention/Easy Ride'. However, I have to say that all the tracks are good and do follow a similar pattern.
This album see's a mature Madonna, no doubt she will start another full circle again right back with her tongue in cheek dance pop. She has definitely gone reflective - as would be expected for a 44 year old. She is no less of an artist in my eyes for doing so, as this album has substance - which is becoming something of a rareity in the 'pop' market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and thought-provoking, 23 Mar. 2003
This review is from: The Damned Don't Cry (Audio CD)
Having a huge interest in art and the neo-romantacism movement during the 1980s, I had to buy this album. I would rate it on par with a good Ultravox album such as Lament. The tracks on 'Damned don't cry', which encapsulate totally the beauty and mannequin elegance of neo-romantic music are 'Visage/Fade to Grey/Mind of a Toy (rather perverse at the end with the innocence of the baby chimes)/Whispers/Damned Don't Cry/Beat Boy.' These are all my favourite tracks, in particular the monumentally beautiful/emotionally stirring 'Damned Don't Cry'. It has an ageless melodic line, and the harmonies which make up the chorus are mind-blowingly delicate and beautiful.
If you enjoy Ultravox or John Foxx, then you will live to love this sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant sketch of Hip-Hop music, 22 Mar. 2003
'La Bella Mafia' is a totally original Lil' Kim sounding album. Her interludes really make this genre her own, her husky-lush voice mixed with her varied hardcore and softcore beats and riffs really amaze me. I love 'Shake ya bum bum' for its simplicity and catchiness - also 'Magic Stick' is already a classic in my eyes. This album totally lives up to the standard of her previous 2 albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars A suprise, a nice suprise, 22 Mar. 2003
This review is from: The Island Years (Audio CD)
Before this album, Ultravox represented elegance, mannequin-like porcelain beauty and stylistic art based productions to me. On hearing there 'Ultravox!' days, under the heavy influence of John Foxx (who's solo music is the epitome of neo-romance), Ultravox suddenly appeared heavy and feedback-drenched. A total opposite sound to what I had become accustomed to, or fundamentally liked! However, this album, a combination of 3 early Ultravox! albums is sensational. Its rough, in your face, totally disorganised and fantastic for it. A complete reversal of the sounds of 'Rage in Eden' or 'Lament'. Ultravox now seem more complete in my eyes, after hearing their early stuff. Buy it if you haven't heard this sound yet, or buy it still if you need a 3 in 1 album of Ultravox's! pre-Vienna works etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...not really neo-romantic, 20 Mar. 2003
This review is from: The OMD Singles (Audio CD)
Overall, this album is fair - do not perceive me wrongly. Electronic tracks are abound. However, compared to other contemporary neo-romantics, such as Ultravox/Visage etc this album just feels superficial. It doesnt hold as much artistic vision as Ultravox's 'Rage In Eden' or John Foxx's music. It is much more commercial sounding, and rather repitively dull and uninspired. Tracks like 'Tesla girls' are fun and upbeat, but no amount of blipping and bleeping can turn this album around from a converted, bland commercial pop sounding offering into a more sophisticated 'arty' offering. Sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated pop-electronica, 17 Mar. 2003
This review is from: Neon Nights (Audio CD)
First things first - If you thought Kylie's Fever album was good, edgy and bolstered by mind-blowing electronics, then you will ADORE this new album by Dannii. Neon Nights completely over-shadows Kylie's album, and almost every track is a possible future single. Each track is on the same par as 'Put the needle on it' and 'I begin to wonder' in terms of beat-heavy, complex poly-rhythms and pounding bass-line ostinati. The electronic blips and bleeps sampled on EVERY track really heighten the clinical, robotic, mannequin like style of Dannii. In addition are Dannii's liquid vocals and sexy act, which really do complete and refine this perfect 'synth/dance pop' album. I would term the album as being sophisticated and very mature. The electronic roots of each track really shine through, with superb textures and poly-rhythms. I particularly found 'Creep/Hey(so what)/For the record/Mighty fine/ On the loop/Push and Mystified amazing. 'For the Loop' is incredibly beat heavy, and 'Push' shares the same jarring vocals as 'Put the needle on it'. The videos are amazing, and picture galleries are very colourful and brilliantly computer enhanced. This is a new age of electonic synth pop, and Fever has been totally overshadowed. Dannii is here, with her very uniquely-coined style, and this album will make her the kind of dance-diva Kylie has become with Fever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A living beauty, bridging 4 decades of music., 11 Mar. 2003
This review is from: Living Proof (Audio CD)
This album has a wonderful balance between sophisticated electronica, meaningful lyrics and simply stunning harmonies. Cher's trademark sultry yet soaring voice is showcased to the full, with the aid of vocoders and filters the effect is a chill-inducing array of whispy melodies. The standout tracks are "The music's no good without you, Alive again, A song for the lonely, A different kind of love song, Body to body, Love is a lonely place without you and Love another." The most powerful track harmonically is "Love is a lonely place without you", and the most clubbed track is "Real Love", which sees Cher's voice bolstered by vocoders, and is in the same style as something from Dannii Minogue or Kylie. I seriously recommend this album.
