5.0 out of 5 stars Lock and Key is an intricate, long and compelling read that delivers - A debut knock out! 5-STARS, 6 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Lock & Key (Kindle Edition)
This debut MC novel is an absolute knock out! There are so many MC related stories out there right now and to deliver something of this calibre in a saturated market is an incredible feat. Cat Porter, where on earth did you come from?

Lock and Key is an intricate, long and compelling read that delivers in every area. From young love to sisterhood, brotherhood, murder, loss, betrayal, heartache and beyond, this book has the lot!

Primarily, this is a second chance love story, but it is also a story of life. Grace hasn't had it easy, and running away from her past only prolongs the agony. Only when she comes back home she gets to face those demons and finally put them to rest while finding solace in the arms of a man who stands for everything she left behind.

With a dying sister, a young nephew, club unfinished business and a secret surrounding the loss of Dig, her Husband, all those years ago, Grace aka Little Sister really is a 3D character carrying a lot of baggage. To break through and get those past and present snippets throughout the story, brings it all together in one fluent, full embodied read that makes for one incredible reading experience.

Miller is that character who is strangely secretive, but you know that a hot, fiery volcano about to explode is lying in wait beneath. My goodness that man has serious sex appeal and he doesn't even have to try hard, and that's what I loved about him. I did not find any part of this book seedy in the sex department, in fact, much of it was beautiful in its own way even if some scenes were primal f-f-ing. Can't beat a bit of primal or alpha, and we get both here... with characters in their prime (yes, I'm talking late 30's / Early 40's for the most part).

I am not going to go into a plot overview on this one because this is a long book, with a clever intricacy that made for one hell of a ride. Lock and Key may be hearty, but there is no fluff or filler here. Every chapter deserved to be there; every twist and turn, sex scene, conversation, dream, thought, everything... made this book stand out from the crowd. I can only attribute that to the impeccable writing and plot planning by this incredible author who has just put a strong foothold under the proverbial MC church table.

If you are a true fan of the MC Romance genre, then Lock and Key is an absolute MUST READ!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A sweet and erotic guilty pleasure read. 3 STARS, 6 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Her Dark Angel is a sweet and erotic guilty pleasure read. There was nothing original here and the storyline was a little laclustre but I guess that is common with novellas. A lot of emphasis was put on the insta-lust and not so much on the plot but yes, the sex is hot between the dark Angel, Apollyon and the human witch, Serenity. A story of revenge in the name of infidelity turned forbidden lustful affair, to love, makes for a short, naughty night time read that will definitely scratch an itch or two, but don't expect an intricate or refreshing Angel/Human love story because you won't find it here.

I will say however, that the writing is very good and I did find it a pleasurable read, I just would have liked a little more depth because the author had some very nice ideas, I just don't think it was executed as well as it could have been.

"A deeply emotional, dark and captivating read." - Kelly, Perusing Princesses

Wow! This book is no easy read but my goodness, does it pack a punch in all the right places! There is no denying it, this book is pretty dark, with glimpses of light and unfathomable beauty. A tale of family, sisterhood and survival.

You Loved Me At My Darkest does involve disturbing scenes of kidnap, captivity, violence and rape; like I said... No easy read, yet at the same time there is a welcome reprieve when our main heroine, Lily, starts to build a profound connection with her captive guard, Jake.

Immediately, I knew there was more to Jake than meets the eye but I had no idea how this story was to unfold and I must say, I was hooked from the first page. That prologue is not pretty but like the perfect erotic thriller, you can't look away and immediately I knew I was in for the long haul.

Lily and Sasha are the true testament that blood is thicker than water. When they are both kidnapped from their last vacationing day in New York City, this once-in-a-lifetime trip to help move on from the grief of losing both their parents, turns into every womans living nightmare. Lily, remains the rock for her younger sister Sasha, she will stop at nothing to protect her but when they get separated at a large mansion run by an evil sex trafficker, their chances of seeing each other again are slim, with escape a near impossibility.

Lily, the eldest and most beautiful is lavished with expensive clothes and a nice room, a prison draped in luxury as she becomes one of the 'special collection'.

Sasha on the other hand is put into the slave quarters. Her job is to not speak and do as her told. But the message is clear; no one gets to escape, you are sold to the highest bidder as a sex slave, or you leave in a bodybag.

Jake is the guard put in charge of keeping Lily safe from harm in between the days that her services are not needed. It has been four years and the things he has witnessed would make a weaker man weep, but Jake has a reason for being in that house, and nothing is going to stop him getting where he wants to be. The game plan is to make it to the top, and he has never faltered or misplaced his loyalties... until now!

Lily finds solace in the unlikeliest of places, but can he be trusted? Jake can't get the last collection piece out of his mind, and that can only spell one thing for them both
... disaster!
*
Oh, some of the scenes that unfolded in this book made me want to scream. One minute you feel that ray of hope blooming, that maybe everything will turn out okay, to then... BAM! You get knocked sideways as things turn again on a dime, leaving you speechless and emotionally raw. So, naturally... I loved it! :)

Love in its many varying forms can be found in the darkest of places but still be prepared to shed a few tears with this one, and wear big girl pants because you sure are going to need them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Prisoner is a deliciously dangerous, compelling and sexy read! 4.5 STARS, 6 Nov. 2014
"Prisoner is a deliciously dangerous, compelling and sexy read!" - Kelly, Perusing Princesses

“Two hundred pounds of masculine danger wrapped in all that beauty. Even in chains, he seems vibrant, wild and free, a force of nature - it makes me feel like I’m the one in prison. Safe. Small. Carefully locked down.” - Abigail Winslow

I loved every minute of this story, even though certain scenes in the past tense are deeply disturbing, it gave Prisoner its darker edge and made me appreciate how Grayson Kane went from man to inmate, ID 85359. The abhorrent circumstances of his past, pave way to a future encased in chains. But there is hope that comes in the form of his Brothers - the others who walked through hell beside him, and came out the other side angry, bitter and thirsty for vengeance, and a sweet girl with glasses and a penchant for reading.

Abigail Winslow is an English student on an assignment. The idea of teaching a class of convicted criminals the craft of writing a vignette for The Kingman Journal to appear online is enough to make Abbey run for the hills, but with the support of her college professor, she overcomes her fear and gradually makes great progress with the men who find solace in her classroom, writing becoming a new outlet. Her assignment is almost complete, but she still can’t get her mind off the man who holds the power to render her speechless. That is until said inmate goes from perfect student to kidnapper and convicted felon on the run.

Abigail is in a very precarious position but she remains strong throughout her incarceration, but she never believed she would feel for the man wielding a gun to her head. Things go from bad to worse when Stone, the leader of Grayson’s ‘family’ wants to tie up all lose end and has no qualms about pulling the trigger. What started as an escape, turns into a fight for survival and a mission to put end to the devil who started it all…

*

Yes, this is an unconventional love story of sorts and it does have a few very hot bedroom scenes, with one bordering non consensual but I wouldn’t necessarily class this book as dark erotica. It reminded me a little of Prison Break with a captive twist, and heart, and I couldn’t put it down!

There are a few very scary characters in this book but none more so than Stone. He put me on edge and I really hope he gets his own book because I want to get inside that crazy and break it down.

Prisoners has many unforeseeable twists which makes it a well thought out and refreshing read, and I’m very much looking forward to continuing with this series.

If you don’t mind dark subject matters then this is definitely one to read!

'Erotic, dark, intricate and exceptionally clever, this is one you do not want to miss!' - Kelly, Perusing Princesses

Two Contracts. One Deadline. One Decision.

“The day you f-ing bought me to be your whore was the first day of the end of your life.” - Victoria Conway Harrington

Oh where do I start with this little gem - well okay, not so much of the little because this book made a HUGE impact on me. From the Prologue through to that Epilogue, Insidious grips you hard, plunges you deeply into a secret world of sexual exploitation and deception, all wrapped up in a comfortable cloak of wealth and power.

Steward Harrington is a multi-millionaire business mogul. Victoria Conway is a bright 18-year-old student who stumbles blindingly into his lavish penthouse home, at the command of her Mother and Stepfather. She may be naive and made to be felt unworthy from the moment of her birth, but Victoria isn’t weak, having to fight her corner for most of her life, she isn’t afraid to speak up and immediately Steward is enamoured by the strong young woman.

Marriage was always supposed to be about love, or so Vikki thought, but when Mr Harrington offers her a way out of her Stepfathers gambling debt and a safeguard for her siblings’ future education, she signs a contract, signing her life over to the man who promises to give her the world... so long as she does as her told.

The first year they are happy and Vikki starts to fall for her strong and successful husband, but when he introduces her to the warehouse, everything starts to change…

And change it does, my goodness, you have no idea going in how effectively Insidious is going to sideswipe you. In the early days you start to respect the characters, grow to like them even. I was becoming quite fascinated by Stewart Harrington, and his ability to switch from powerful business mogul to attentive husband. I thought this girl really had it made. Hell… I would have signed that contract!

That is until Stewart starts to show is true colours. As much as he cares for Victoria, he never promised a declaration of love. His rules are to be followed to the T, which has never really been a problem, but when his rules for obedience mix with his sexual fantasies, Victoria realises she may have just made the biggest mistake of her life.

“Tonight and every night I’ll the the envy of every man. You’ll be starring in their wet dreams while you star in my every fantasy.” - Stewart Harrington

From lavish penthouse living to a warehouse of sexual debauchery, Victoria learns to compartmentalise and adapt to her new life. With time comes the bitter resentment, the need to take back her power is indescribable as she makes her own plans to thwart her husband, and bring the people who helped write up that contract, to their knees.

But… like anything Aleatha Romig, things may not always be as they seem, and trust me when I say, this book has more twists and turns than the proverbial roller-coaster! It keeps you guessing throughout as you hang precariously by the edge of your seat. As far as erotica’s go, this thriller is up there with the best. It’s clever, intricate, dark, thought-provoking and completely unputdownable.

READ IT!

"A poignant, emotional and unforgettable tale of second chances". - Kelly, Perusing Princesses

After that rather devastating ending of Carnage 1: The Story of Us, I couldn’t wait to jump into this sequel because I needed to find a sense of closure. It is no secret that Lesley Jones did a real number on us and I wasn’t sure how Georgia was going to pull back from that kind of devastating loss.

From the offset we are thrown back into that darkness, that all-consuming grief is palpable and heartbreaking, and even though I expected it to be there, I needed to see a way out; thankfully it didn’t take long for the direction of this sequel to change dramatically.

A trip to Australia is just what the head doctor ordered, and it is in this time that we see Georgia tentatively move forward, her wings start to unfold, and even though it takes a while for her to sour, the makings of a new beginning are there providing the reader with a much needed and fun deflection.

When a no strings attached love affair starts with an Australian surfer, Georgia’s guilt at finding solace within the arms of another is at the forefront of her mind, even though she isn’t technically doing anything wrong, letting go of Sean was never going to be easy. Like a band-aid, she rips it off quick and indulges in a few very wild weeks.

Her cousin is working hard on a new club that is due to open in Sidney, and when Georgia gets an invite to open night, she decides to make it her last stop before returning back home to her family in Essex. She just never expected to bump into her past.

Mr TDH (Tall, Dark and Handsome) aka Cameron King is making the most of going legit. His clubs have made a real name for themselves over the last ten years and his new offering in the city of Sidney is no exception.

He never expected to see her again, the only woman he ever loved and lost to the rock star who had it all. Now he’s gone, and Kitten is very much alone. Cameron should be elated at the chance of reuniting with the love of his life, but in actual fact he is terrified. Kitten hurt him once, and he barely survived, he wouldn’t be able to go through it a second time.

Georgia has missed him. Over the years he has never been far from her mind, he gave her everything; strength, love, the best sex of her life, but it was always Sean, back then she could never see pass the man she loved from the age of 11.

But what happens when the tables turn, and Georgia realises that she’s loved Cam all along and wants him back in her life?

Can Cameron forgive Georgia and let her back into his home, and his heart?
Can Georgia really open her heart again and let Cameron in after everything that’s happened between them?
And how will her family react at the news that only after a year of Sean’s passing she is finally ready to move on and love another?

I can’t tell you, you have to experience this for yourself, but know that there are some more bumps along the way. The paparazzi are still interested in the young widow, and the fans are not going to forgive easily, and that's only the beginning of their problems.

*

Now that's what you call a wrap! I absolutely loved this two part series, it has everything that makes a good story great, including some much needed humour. After the angst fuelled roller-coaster of book one I am so pleased this went in a slightly different direction while remaining sympathetic to Sean and Beau's memory. I would have hated this story to go any other way, it could only have ever been Cam to fill those shoes.

Yes, there were a few things that didn’t come across entirely believable and one episode at an airport toilet that made me cringe, because it seemed a little off-kilter in connection with the character. Georgia also tends to find herself in the most craziest of situations, but the injected humour really helped. Ash is a riot, I just love her. And there is one scene at the Layton house at around 49% that had me in hysterics - so yes, there are some unresolved issues in the beginning, but later on it just makes for an interesting ride.

The angst train rolls in but it is resolved pretty quickly which I was grateful for. I do love my angst but if it was delivered in abundance here, it wouldn’t have worked, we had enough of that in Carnage 1 and my heart just wouldn't have coped. This sequel is more about the healing and moving forward, while fixing certain discrepancies of the past.

If you want something real and honest that touches on the harder aspects of life, only to find closure and acceptance at the end, then read this series, because it is one journey you won’t forget anytime soon.

“A compelling and emotionally charged unconventional love story delivered with honesty and heart. Absolutely loved it!’

I fell completely in love with this story right from the offset. Greta and Elec’s circumstance drew me in so deeply that I couldn't get enough of the unconventional dynamics of the overall plot.

It isn’t unheard of for step siblings to share a mutual attraction, infact, my Great Grandmother married her Stepbrother in the 1920’s and it made me wonder how it all came about. Did they have the same concerns? Were they worried what people would say, would think? It was a different time back then, and it made me appreciate how strong they both must have been to move forward and embrace the love they shared. I wish I could go back in time and ask them because without their love, I wouldn’t be here today, so I guess you could say this story holds a special place in my heart.

In this instance, Penelope Ward incorporated many obstacles that felt believable for this situation, and you just routed for Greta and Elec from the start, to find a way, to make it work. It certainly has a guilty-pleasure feel to it, but at the same time it was nurtured and formulated beautifully into a love story with depth and substance. It had everything, including step family drama; or rather a son and his estranged father under the same roof, the good girl, the bad boy and the sexual tension that fused it all together in a wickedly tempting and compelling package. To say I loved Stepbrother Dearest would be an understatement. It consumed me, and I read it in an evening and early morning sitting.

I’m not going to go into a full plot overview because I don’t think it actually needs it. This isn’t a slow build story either, right from the start we really get to see the two combine together like oil and water, only then to start working together in unison and it was such a pleasurable experience.

The flow, the dialogue, the prose - everything was so well thought out without too much fluff or filler. Even the time-lapse was approached well, and the re-introduction of each character years later was palpable and heartwarming, even though it produced a few bumpy roads along the way.

A brilliant story of life, love, loss, and second chances. I absolutely loved it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A heartfelt story with wonderful characters! Another brilliant story from Jade C Jamison - 4.5 Stars., 19 Oct. 2014
Oh I really enjoyed this shorter standalone novel from Jade C Jamison. Even though it can be comfortably read in a couple of hours, it really touches on all the fundamental elements that makes a good story work. A true sense of emotion can be found here, as we delve into the heart and mind of two very well thought out characters, both hiding behind a dark childhood secret.

Yes, Jade isn't afraid to play the angst card so this does focus briefly on child abuse but it didn't cloud the dynamics of what is a beautiful love story. This is a story of healing, of finding hope and acceptance within the arms of a kindred spirit, by someone who understands what it means to have that power taken away, only to succeed in taking it back.

Kory is a sweet girl with a tormented soul. Her past a constant reminder of where she has come from and its many obstacles forever standing in her way. She may have found solace by playing around in high school but now a 20-year-old college student, her time is spent working and studying. Her only interest outside is the man who gave her that first piercing many months ago. Now, he is a fascination and Kory knows that the only way she can get closer is to just ask him on a date, but for someone with emotional baggage aplenty, that is easier said than done.

Stone Bowman is a tattoo artist who is every woman's wet dream. Successful, beautiful and talented, he's never had trouble finding female companions but when a regular customer finally plucks up the courage to ask him out, he can't help but smile. She isn't like the others and his interest is peaked.

Soon Kory and Stone become well acquainted but it's obvious there are a few skeletons in each of their closets and sooner or later something has to give...

And give it does, in spades! Jade is such a gifted writer, she really does succeed in pulling you into the story while delivering some of the most elaborate yet tasteful love scenes I have ever come across. This isn't erotica, but a real nurtured and sympathetic love story intertwined with a personal step to recovery.

Stone is hot ladies! Just the kind of character we have come to expect from Jade and she never fails to deliver.

Read it!!!

I am so pleased that I stuck with this book. I admit, I didn't like Louis Bruel at first, he came across arrogant and disrespectful and it was an immediate turn off, but I persevered because I had a feeling that things were about to change. And oh, did they change. Mr arrogant went from selfish, shallow sex craved addict to a man finally knowing what it's like to find love in the most unlikeliest of females.

Emily is an innocent and somewhat naive 18-year-old who first sees the powerful and insanely beautiful Louis Bruel at a party, organised by her sister Jenna and her husband, Mike. For two weeks after their initial meeting, Emily becomes obsessed with the man who has it all. He is a welcome fantasy, nothing more.

Well, that is until another organised event puts them back in the same vicinity, and Louis makes it highly apparent that he feels exactly the same way...

From first sexual encounters and erotic escapades, to first love and growing up in the world of high flying New York glamour, this is the story of how one young woman stole the heart of a relentless business mogul/hard-core playboy.

It spans a decade and tells of an all consuming love that is open, honest and very beautiful in its own way, but also shrouded in doubt and low self esteem.

Emily is unaware of her beauty, she cannot understand how one such as the beautiful and highly revered Louis Bruel could love one such as she, and sometimes that doubt can pave way to disaster...

And even though there wasn't too much angst here, this story still managed to sweep me away into the high rolling fantasy. To have everything at your feet and the love of a good man is all you could ever ask for, but Emily's concerns seemed real to me. Her age, accompanied by her very warranted insecurities of how Louis chose to live his life B.E (Before Emily) was a constant struggle and I identified with that part of her character.

Louis, well... he sure is alpha, and even though I didn't care much for his lurid dialogue in the first half, the second really made me do a 180. If there's one thing I take from this beautifully constructed story is never take what you have for granted, because one day it could all be gone and you will have nothing left but regrets.

The present and past narrative was a real treat because you got two sides of the same story running completely parallel and it kept me riveted to my e-reader, because I wanted to see how a love that started out quite possessive and consuming, became distant and unpredictable. Alas, it all comes together beautifully, laced lyrically with an 80's musical theme that took me back to a time when things were a lot less complicated. It was quite refreshing in that respect and I am so pleased I took the time to read Love in Rewind.

Sexy, heartwarming escapism with a poignant message. Read it!!!

Real, honest, passionate storytelling that breaks all the rules. Absolutely Brilliant!

The buzz surrounding this book was palpable, everywhere I went I kept hearing about Carnage. Many of the reviews were positive, while others negative, touching base on what they thought was taboo and broke all the rules. Well… I am a rule-breaker people. I’m all about the rebel. Maybe because I rebelled a little as a teenager, or maybe because I had to grow up quick, and found my peace in music. Whatever it was, I connected with this story immediately, because my young self had been there!

Georgia and Sean’s world imploded in that one moment. Their life course written. Love, as in the word itself is renowned for being over used, thrown around, an excuse for many to patch over any indiscretions - a word with so much power it can bring even the strongest to their knees. At 11 and 13, nobody can truly understand the meaning of that passionate, unyielding, undeniable love, right? Oh no… so very wrong! If it’s meant to be, then love will find a way, and in George and Sean’s case, it found!

Embarking on that first real life-journey is overwhelming. It comes with many questions, and sometimes the key is to experiment, open your heart and just go with what it’s telling you… and yes, at only 14 and 16, that is what happened. But don’t be deterred, trust me when I say it was sympathetically done, and the emotion in its words aids you in putting trust in these kids, knowing that what they are doing is for all the right reasons.

But Sean, along with Marley (Georgia’s Brother) also hold a very special talent in music. It’s not long before they are 18 and playing local pubs and proving they have what it takes to make it in the industry. From an 11 year old girl hanging from monkey bars, flashing her pink knickers, to the sweet 16 teenage girlfriend of the most recognisable face in their hometown, it's not long before fame takes over, and comes between the love they once thought impenetrable.

One mistake on tour destroys Georgia and Sean, and for four years they are apart. They try so hard to carry on with life as normal, with Georgia going to college and Sean and Marley making it big in the music industry. She doesn’t watch TV, doesn’t listen to the radio, the idea of even saying Sean’s name out loud is enough to render her an emotional wreck - she shuts down, and throws herself into her new business venture with her Mother in the retail fashion industry.

Enter Cameron King… a wine bar owner, entrepreneur and bad boy London gangster, oh yeah… Mr King definitely makes an impression on our emotionally stunted girl, and for the first time since Sean left, she’s finally opening her heart to another, even if it’s only a small fraction, it’s something…

Cameron is a dark horse, an alpha male who gets what he wants, but even he knows to tread carefully around the girl with the sad eyes. He knows what loss feels like, and he comes into Georgia’s life when she needed him most, and from here on out they succumb to the passion, which makes for some real sexy scenes.

But… Sean will always be there. In her mind, in her heart and her soul. Cameron is struggling, climbing an uphill battle, and when Sean finally renters her life after 4 years, the game is over.

Sean is not giving up now, he’s never letting his girl go again, and Georgia finally knows what it feels to breathe again… Love has come home, but with it so has the fame, crazy paparazzi, insane groupies, hate mail, and everything in-between, including the ex… that doesn’t seem to ever really go away.

*

I’m not giving you anything else with regards to the plot because the second half of this book is where the true magic lies. The characters grow, mature and finally find their way, but it’s not an ‘easy’ read by any means. This is a life journey, a story of love that at times gets incredibly messy. Every taboo is here - Underage sex, drugs, cheating, rock n roll, and my goodness that ending breaks all the rules - damn you Lesley Jones!! But… IT IS ABSOLUTELY EPIC! And I mean that wholeheartedly.

The heroine isn’t the easiest to love either, she is a princess, a total brat who never had to ask for anything. She’s selfish and at times, very inconsiderate to others but thats what gave her her edge, her flaws gave her substance - solidity.

Sean, the beautiful boy. The rock star with a heart so big, he was never afraid to show it. As a British girl myself, his little endearment made me laugh every time, I never found him to be crude or disrespectful - again, Lesley Jones really did inject some home humour into this book and I love her for it.

Cameron King is the wild card. I wasn’t sure how I felt at first, having a little triangle thrown into the mix, but it’s nowhere near what we would consider conventional, so get that ‘I hate triangles’ out of your head, because this relationship is special in its own way, although deemed to fail before it really began. I have high hopes for Mr King though, he is such a fabulous character, and somewhat a little scary. Can’t help but love a bad boy!

Apart from many of the grammatical errors, there is nothing I would change about this story. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Even the family dynamics were magic. The older Brothers who treat their sister with kid gloves, but who are far from perfect. The best friends Jimmie and Ashley who really inject some heartwarming sisterly vibes. The overbearing Irish Mother and the ‘entrepreneur’ Father who just melts your heart with the love he holds for his family, but who will likely knee cap you, just by looking at him funny. I loved this family!

I rarely write reviews this long but it’s so hard not to pour my heart out on the page, and give it to you how I see it. Be brave, go in with an open mind, and like me, you may have just found one of your favourite books of ALL TIME!

READ IT!
