4.0 out of 5 stars Queen Diva is back, 3 April 2005
its bin a few years now sinse mariahs last release, and shez used this time to slighly alter her style. truelly out are the days of opera style singing, and in comes the new hip-hop/RnB style. it was inevitable that mariah would end up turning to this solution to prevent her record sales dwindling any further. however to my pleasant suprise she pulls the style change off. the first release it's like that is a perfect example of her new found style. the single has had great commercial success and is actually a really good song. other tracks follow in the same style which makes the album a truelly good one to listen to. mariah couldn't make this new album without guest appearances, noticably from twista jermaine drupri and production from kanye west. a truelly great comeback album, if not anything much special

5.0 out of 5 stars Whats all the fuss about, 3 April 2005
This review is from: Hot Fuss (Audio CD)
Well, quite simply this is the best album i have heard in many years. This debut album slipped into the world quite quietly following massive touring in 2004, but once it had been heard, exploded onto the scene and made the killers a household name.
As debuts go this is truelly outstanding. Every song on the album is there on its own merit, and not just put there to fill some valuable CD time. To select standout tracks is almost impossible as they all are. Their are however two tracks that instantly spring to my mind are the amazingly energtic Somebody Told Me. incredibly infectious chorus will have you singing along the hole way through, and the track will be stuck in your head for days on end. The second being Mr Brightside, a more melow track that aims to tug at those old heart strings, which it does well.
The more rough sounding Glomourous Indie Rock And Roll is another track brilliantly crafted, again with infectious chorus lines. A mention also has to be put to Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, the fourth track that stands out in my mind
Finally this album has spawned some amazing house remixes, that to fans of that genre will be almost as good as tracks on the album itself. All round a truelly amazing album that will not be bettered for some time to come

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Light District, 28 Feb. 2005
This review is from: The Red Light District (Audio CD)
Wow where did this come from. I have been a fan of luda for many years, ive seen him evolve his very personalised rough style but always been worried that he drops some amazing tracks, but most albums have too many fillers. Im glad to say Red Light District is a very big exception to this.
There are five brilliant tracks:
Number One Spot: Fantasically upbeat track with samples from Austin Powers theme tune.
Get Back: Another upbeat track (a theme of the album) the first single release, the varying speeds really make this work.
Blueberry Yum Yum: A very simplistic track but quick lyrics and subtle beats and background sounds makes a suprising style change.
Child of the Night: another more chilled slightly less energetic song featuring nate dogg. more harmonious song, showing luda with a very slightly softer side
Pimpin all over the world:
Back up to speed again and luda abck at his boasting best, this is what ludacris has come to be all about, infectious hooks and choruses, a sure fire hit (if radio will ever play it)
All songs on this album are there on merit, no fillers, non that let the side down, just all possible hit singles!

5.0 out of 5 stars All else gets massacred, 26 Feb. 2005
Firstly i have not heard the entire album, only leaks and tracks played on radio. Undoubtedly candy shop is one of 50's best tracks to date and will be a sure fire hit. Disco inferno, set to the same beat and tune of Lloyd Bank's track on fire is perfect for the hip-hop clubs. For obvious reasons piggy bank, the ja rule fat joe kelis diss track, has been grabbing huge amounts of publicity. And for a diss track is exceptionally good. Gunz Come Out (produced by dr dre) and My Toy Soldiers are also exceptional tracks. Until now im yet to hear a bad track or a filler track on the album which can only be good news. this is an essential purchase for any hip-hop fan, come to think about it, due to its inventiveness, this is a brilliant buy for any music fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars The (not so)Brits, 19 Feb. 2005
Initially you assume that a Brit Awards CD would have British artists on, of which it does have plenty, but for my liking far too many non-UK acts have been added to the CD. However this isn't necassarily a great problem because of which songs that arent British, they are of a very high standard, releases from 50 Cent, Kanye West and the incredibly infectious songs from Usher.
Every award genre is represented on this CD, however this is one of the two possible downfalls of the album. Even though these songs are undoutbedly the best 'pop' songs of last year, the variety is simply too great and any listener would be forced to skip through several tracks to get to another one they wish to listen to.
The second possible downfall of the CD is that so many songs are repeated. Infact almost all of the 3rd CD simply repeats what has already been played. (At least 90% repitition) these flaws aside The Brits 2005 is full of all the biggest and best comercial pop songs released over the last year. Well worth a buy if you are willing to be diving for the skip button every other track

3.0 out of 5 stars Shyning?? Maybe Not??, 8 Nov. 2004
This review is from: Godfather Buried Alive (Audio CD)
Following Shynes conviction and subsequent time spent behind bars, he should have unlimited writing material to draw upon, and in the majority lyrics are as good as ever. But delivery falls well short. Unquestionably Shyne was one of the brightest emerging young artists whos career path has now beend ramatically changed, for better or for worse is still yet to be judged. No doubt this albums quality has suffered through his obvious situation which is a genuine shame. But record bosses have also flawed this album. Obviously keen to make money off Shynes plight this album feels rushed and has no particular stand out track. With possibly the exception of For The Record, but this is not for the right reasons. Hyped beyond belief this track has possibly the greatest concept for years, Shyne rapping down the phone about his beef with 50 Cent. But this has been ruined with a tacky backing beat and no digital remastering on the phone line. Overall A slightly disappointing album

5.0 out of 5 stars Nelly back - hitting you twice as hard, 6 Oct. 2004
This review is from: Sweat (Audio CD)
At last Nelly's back, and with 2 times too much material! But do we care? Of course not! Sweat is the more hip-hop styled album (Suit being more RnB and ballady). There isnt a stand out track on the album, as more exactly - they are all stand outs. Especially Na-Nana-Na, an incredibly upbeat dance vibe song which cant help but get you moving. Flap Your Wings - track 3 - is possibly the roughest sounding track - with the hardest rap vibes coming off it. The opening track, Heart of A champion, is full of energy and is typically a grand start to a much hyped album.
A third stand out track is NElly's collaboration with Christina Aguilera on Tilt Ya Head Back. The only possible dissapointing track is River Dont Runn - too raggae sounding for Nelly i think, nothing esspecially wrong with the song - just not necesarily a lot right. Apart from that a truley fantasic album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another day goes by, 5 Oct. 2004
This review is from: One (Audio CD)
Ive heard glimpses of the album - and it all sounds very good. not so much as a new direction, but Dirty Vegas have evolved their style. the blend of dancy love songs works well - just like it does for rokysopp - and their is no reason why Dirty Vegas shuouldn't emulate Rokysopp's success. Granted before their last self titled album no one had really heard of Vegas, but upon release of Days Go By they were opened up to the world and their fan base has ballooned. This again will welcome new listeners to their world whilst giving avid fans there fix of Vegas. Any fan of Rokysopp or those who like chilled out laid back dance beats should give this a go. an incredibly sure and able album

5.0 out of 5 stars MAGIK MUSIC, 9 Aug. 2004
This review is from: Just Be (Audio CD)
I know im a little late in reviewing this but as i just bort Tiesto new solo album i thaught i would come back to this.

And to be quite frankly honest Just Be is simply amazing! Track after track is full of quality! There is a seamless blend of soaring euphoric chance (forever today, a tear in the open and just be) and more funky edgier tracks. The album produces what has so far gone on to be an all time trance anthem, Adagio For Strings. This song is simply amazing but sadly all the credit cannot go to Tiesto as William Orbit and Ferry Corsten managed to do a brilliant job on the same piece of music. Songs like Love Comes Again and Traffic are simply amazing, each sending chills down my spine n made me tingle when ive seen Tiesto in concert, infact that can be said about nearly every song here.

If i had to pick a couple of songs that werent as great as the rest i would pick Sweet Misery and UR. This being said they are certainly still good songs and all round one of the best trance albums i have heard.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Collaberations, New Style, Same Good Old Jaxx, 3 Aug. 2004
This review is from: Kish Kash (Audio CD)
As a big fan of Basement Jaxx and owner of their previous outings, i was puzzled when listening to previews why they depart from a formula that has worked them so well in the past. however upon purchasing Kish Kash my fears were layed to rest. Even though this is a significant change in style for Jaxx, there new combination pays off well. The sound of Kish Kash is noticably loader and with more rock undertones, a slight change from previous dance tunes. The title song is a dance rock hybrid that introduces fabulous energy and a clever war themed video involving dancing tanks. Good Luck is definately the leading dance song with feel good vibes oozing out of it. Closely following this in the dance songs stakes on the album is the incredibly infectious Plug It In featuring N*Sync star JC Chasez, it is garunteed this chorus will be echoing in your head for hours after listening! The other noticle track is Lucky Star featuring Mobo Award winning Dizzee Rascal. Dizzee adds his own style to Jaxx beats and an asian tune. This leads the song to sound right in any club whether it be a dance club or Uk Garage scene. Overall this is a fabulous album and a must buy for all true Jaxx fans and anyone looking for a good home grown act that has what it takes to make it huge!
