MK K5207WHI 20 amp Dual Switch Neon
MK K5207WHI 20 amp Dual Switch Neon
Price: £19.71

2.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this. Expensive and poor quality, 1 April 2017
Sub-standard item and nowhere near as good as the 20 year old MK switch I was replacing. One of the terminal screws was jammed (and this seems a common fault) sp I had to get a replacement for this new one. The terminals are only large enough to accept one wire (so the common neutral, needing two wires, is problematic). The earth terminal would not accept the three earth wires. Screws to the terminals are recessed and so you can only get a small screwdriver to them and the heads burr easily. Basically- 20 minute job wasted hours in the end. Crabtree are said to make better products than MK, nowadays, though I'm not sure they make one of these

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay- but brushes far too soft, 11 Jan. 2017
This product is okay but could be so much better if the toothbrush bristles were that bit harder. They are simply too soft. You can't get a really good clean of your teeth with it

4.0 out of 5 stars Just right for 'zoning' my house, great VFM, occasional minor glitches, 29 Dec. 2016
I have had this system (Cube and 13 eTRVs) for about 6 weeks now, testing and waiting to do a review. Here's my summary:

- excellent value for money. Slightly cheaper than the Energenie system. You can get eTRvs for under £19
- be aware it is a simple system. It doesn't do Geofencing and lots of IFTTT stuff- but if you simply want to control your radiators and zone your house it's a good system
- you still need a timer of some kind to fire the boiler up and 'call for heat'
- rumours of you having to pay to use their remote 'portal' in a few years time are untrue. I emailed EQ3 about it
- One Cube Gateway was adequate to cover the whole of my pretty large house. There are occasional 'drop outs' with transmitting to the furthest eTRVs but it then tries again and the communication gets through. It has two-way communication to verify correct transmission of commands, which is great
- the Max! Basic eTRVs were more than adequate for me. The screen is upside down- but that's ok considering the price and that they were made for the German market
- You can control the Cube/eTRVs either using a local Mac/PC connected to your LAN (with some software they provide) or via an App for iOS or Android. You can have these installed on multiple devices but only use one at a time. The Apps for iOS and Android are very basic and only allow you to adjust current target temperature and switch from manual to automatic (they do not allow you to control timers etc- you have to do that using your local software or via logging on to the online portal). You can only use the local software for adding new devices etc. Ie Apps are very basic! You can change timers using the local software or by logging into their online portal (but see 'glitch' below)
- It does have some oddities and glitches. Specifically:
-- the time zone on the online portal is CET time (i.e. German) and if you use GMT on the local software they appear one hour out and it does not show anything between 11pm and midnight. If you are aware of this you can still get it all to work. EQ3 showed no intention of mending this when I contacted them over it
-- you have to wait a couple of minutes for settings/commands to get to the Cube/Gateway then a couple of minutes for correct transmission to the eTRVs. It does't do to be impatient or fiddle too much! Wait patiently and it will work okay
-- I've had to send one eTRV back in 6 weeks
-- 3 of the eTrvs have, on occasion, not closed off properly. Reinstalling the eTRV seems to solve this (if you momentarily take the batteries out it 'Installs' the TRV, calibrating the movement/length of the valve etc- and this most often solves it. You don't have to reconnect to the cube or do anything else as the setup remains. Ie this is simple to solve)
- eTRVs in one room 'work together'. Ie if you change the temp on one of them it should do so with the others. Occasionally this doesn't work. It's more reliable to send a 'target temp' from your app or local software (as this command then radiates out from the cube)

You still need a device to fire up the boiler and 'call for heat' and it would be nice to have an internet controlled one. I may, in time look into this. But, all in all, as all I wanted to do was zone my house, this is great value for money, pretty reliable, very simple to set up and just what I was looking for. I imagine it would pay for itself in a few years if you are the kind of person to leave TRVs on unnecessarily (rather than practising manual 'zoning'). I you have a big house this is must to save money and our environment, I think.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept and customer service, unreliable product (for me), 29 Dec. 2016
I think you can buy this product with confidence as, if it does not work adequately for you, Energenie's customer service is the best I have experienced in years. Very eager to help and not pushy for you to keep the product.

My first Gateway was locked to another user in such a way as could not be unlocked (I bought it from Hitari who were totally unhelpful). Energenie replaced it immediately. The second one worked but did so unreliably with my eTRVs across a medium sized room. Energenie reimbursed me for the whole product without hesitation. Upon testing they said there was a problem with the crystal that controls the Gateway's transmission frequency. Perhaps it was a faulty batch?

The system is phenomenally easy to set up and the user interface/App excellent. IN fact the whole concept is superb.

In the end I bought an eq3- max! System. Its user interface is useless compared to Energenie's and there are occasional glitches (once every few weeks?) with one or another eTRV but one of their Gateways/Cubes manages to cover the whole of my house and you can find their eTRVs for under £19 each (£17.50 from Germany) so the system works well for me (as I don't need IFTTT, Geofencing etc- I just want a simple system that allows me control of my rads).

Really hope this works out for Energenie as they are right on target, a great company, and the market for this stuff is huge

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product and company, 27 Aug. 2016
I just can't praise this product or company enough. I've used Platus hydration sacks for about ten years now for skiing and hiking etc. They have survived all kinds of knocks and freezes. Twice they have sent me a new clip, free of charge, once after seven years of wear and tear and another time when I lost it. When my old sack leaked after eight years use and an almighty collision they sent me this newer, better version free of charge. Basically- it's a sack for life and I won't be buying anything else. Sooo nice to find good products and service, nowadays.

3.0 out of 5 stars You can buy better. Not as good as most reviews purport, 13 Jun. 2016
I can really only give this 3 stars (and I think those who have given more may not have other Stations to compare it with).
It is okay as a unit- but should be better for its price.
1) the display is quite small and icons hard to read (if you need any form of reading glasses). The way you move around the display seems dated as well- you have to move a cursor to any item you want to modify.
2) It cannot display inside and outside temperature details at the same time (you have to select one to display). This is a real shame
3) It measures rainfall in quite large increments as the 'tumbler bucket' inside the sensor is quite large. It collects about 1.1mm of rain before it then tumbles and displays any reading at all. And what it displays, ordinarily, is just the amount of rain since the sensor last transmitted (ie 1.1mm in the last one minute)- not the cumulative amount of rain in any given period (for that you have to move the cursor to rainfall and press the 'max' button- which then displays the amount of rain in the last 24 hours for about ten seconds, then it goes off. Frustrating). So, it can be raining hard outside and the display says 'zero' for a while till the measurement bucket tumbles. It's just not an intuitive way of displaying rainfall.

So, all in all, I'm a bit disappointed as I purchased this because of the high average review. This is now the forth Weather Station I've had and some of the others were better for less.
