Film (Resource Books for Teachers)
Film (Resource Books for Teachers)
by Susan Stempleski
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars A resource book worth the name, 2 July 2014

It is a great resource book for all teachers and foreign language teachers abroad who want to teach film in class. It provides a lot of practical information you can make available to your students.
Resource books on film often sadly give the impression of having been put together in a hurry by someone who has little more than a vague idea of the subject. This one, however, is a very pleasant exception.

Nothing compares to a trip to Sheldonia! It is not easy to compare tbe BBT to any other sitcom series, because it is so incredibly well acted that the characters really come alive. The scripts are fresh and hilarious. They act their parts with much charisma and ease, they totally convince you and win your heart. They are so good that you wait another 10 minutes before serving dinner, only then to realize that Penny and the guys are not late for your nerd-ish Harry Potter party bur will not come at all because - I cannnot bring myself to say they do not really exist. In a conventional way...

5.0 out of 5 stars compulsory reading, 16 Jan. 2013

A book everybody ought to have read. Seriously. Even as a blogger with lots of YouTube friends who buys online and does not watch the TV news or read the paper - this helps you to actually know what you are really doing and what might be done to you.
It shows immediate dangers and long-term consequences you would never have thought of. It is a book that clears your view of things.

Every time you start watching this sparklingly fresh and funny series for the umpteenth time and think you might laugh just a little less now you know it all - you're reduced to a laughing heap of very happy jelly AGAIN, because you're also laughing because you KNOW what's coming.

Time for Outrage!
Time for Outrage!
by Stéphane Hessel
Edition: Pamphlet

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth is outrageous, 16 May 2011
This review is from: Time for Outrage! (Pamphlet)
Stephane Hessel is one of the most important personalities and thinkers of our time, and he is still with us. But maybe not for long, as he himself says. What he has to say is so clever that it's really simple, like e.g. the invention of the wheel, and you may yourself have even thought and said the same things (Congratulations!). Nonetheless what he has to say is essential, true and necessary and whoever has not had any direct contact to the ideas of Hessel ought to grab the chance to observe this planet and the species that struggles along on its surface from his point of view while Staphane Hessel still struggles along with us. A wise old man - in the very best sense of the word - makes us aware of the problems and dangers and points out a way how we just might keep ourselves and our futures safe. He does this briefly, in a factual way and yet with the emphasis experience adds to his plain words.
Maybe you will be wanting to read more by this great remarkable man. BTW I just say Mr Hessel on TV, very alive and kicking...

The Wise Man's Fear: The Kingkiller Chronicle: Book 2
The Wise Man's Fear: The Kingkiller Chronicle: Book 2
by Patrick Rothfuss
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wise Man's Follow-Up, 13 April 2011
The second volume of the Kingkiller Chronicles has been well worth waiting for. You get all the time you want with your mysterious protagonist and get an insight into a complex fascinating fictional world that - despite madness and magic - appears so real it is almost palpable. It starts at a measured pace and demands a devoted reader who is not just after a good plot, suspense and surprise but enjoys the reading process - definitely "slow food" for the brain, but wholly satisfying, and yes, the story does go on and you are going to meet new characters and have adventures, too. I am grateful for a courageous author who does not throw his readers some quickly conceived flashy effects as a follow-up of his success with volume one but truly aims at something larger and more valuable. I will be ever so patiently waiting for volume three.
