So good - moving and thought provoking, 21 July 2014
Having seen the film, I put off reading this for some time, thinking it may be too disturbing. It was disturbing, but also gave such a thorough insight into the reality of the situation. The personal reflections of those dreadful times were interesting and moving with excellent descriptions of life on the plantations, including the depth of friendships between the slaves not quite captured in the film.
