2.0 out of 5 stars Not what Jane would have written, 4 Nov. 2013

Ms Lathan conveys one through the various chapters with skill but it is marred by her misunderstandings of English social life and history. An example is her references to knights and baronets as Sir Cole or Sir Dandridge - rather than the correct use of the forename, e.g. Sir Wallace Dandridge. Similarly she refers to Duke Grafton, omitting the obligatory "of" which accompanies all ducal titles, and has a character refer to Lady Matlock as "Countess" rather than "my lady" or "Lady Matlock". Despite these lapses, however, the book manages to keep the reader entertained, although some of the situations appear contrived in the extreme. Lady Fotherby would not have been subject to her father's will as a widow, and the episode involving her family does not have much to commend it - nor does it make Richard Fitzwilliam seem particularly astute. Overall, a book I managed to get through but can't recommend very strongly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better called a Lady Peter Wimsey book!, 2 Oct. 2013

Lord Peter is completely missing from the majority of his book, although there are copious reminders and reference to him throughout. But Harriet does sterling work in his absence and it is not a bad story overall. Quite an enjoyable read.

RELICS (The Harker Chronicles Book 1)
RELICS (The Harker Chronicles Book 1)

2.0 out of 5 stars Relics, 31 Aug. 2013
Poor spelling and punctuation let this one down throughout, even more than the ridiculous plot. A good copy editor and proofreader was required but clearly absent. If you like thrillers with a basis in history, eg. The da Vinci Code, you might think this is worth looking at, but I fear, like me, you'll be disappointed with the result. Characters are not engaging so you don't want to find out what's going to happen to them. The bad guys are over the top and Alex Harper is no Robert Langdon. Sorry, but I can't recommend this book.

This book just didn't grab my attention in the same way as others in the genre have done. For a start I thought it was poorly written with a lack of style and little character or plot development. Then the subject matter was not clearly communicated to fix the readers attention. I managed to finish it but found the ending, too, was distinctly underwhelming and rushed. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars What would Jane Austen think?, 30 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think she would be appalled at this drivel masquerading as something based on her characters. It is badly written and makes a complete mockery of the characters as established by the original novel, marrying some to the wrong people and creating others within no wit or depth to them for the purpose of joining them to the remaining unmarried ones. Don't waste your money buying this - and though I haven't read the author's other work, if this is the standard of the rest it would seem wiser to avoid it all.

4.0 out of 5 stars helpful app, 1 Jan. 2013

This review is from: Battery (App)
As it's a free app I thought I'd give it a go. I'm really glad I did as it does just what you want. The "time remaining" shown for each type of use on my Kindle Fire HE is especially helpful and seems pretty accurate so far. Haven't made use of all the apps features yet, but expect to find the rest as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous felines!, 22 Dec. 2012

Telepathic animals are the best.

Lackey shows a humorous and quirky side in this collection of short stories about the ship cats who keep freighters clear of vermin. It's just a shame there are only a few very short stories here - more please!

An independent, amazing, unofficial A-Z of The Big Bang Theory

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all fans, 22 Nov. 2012

Does what it says on the cover - there's plenty of info and background in here for all die-hard BBT fans, although you should be aware that it's now a bit dated, as it only goes up to the end of season 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff!, 8 Nov. 2012

It does what it says on the box - this is the complete Big Bang Theory from pilot to the end of season 5. If you're a fan, you've already seen these, but now you can watch your favourites over again, or have a Big Bang fest of a weekend and watch the lot, as you choose. Apart from these points, the best feature for me is the 'behind the scenes' stuff for each season: we have cast interviews, tours of the sets, gag reels (some are even funnier than the episodes!) and a little more insight into the actors (and production staff) themselves. If you've never seen The Big Bang Theory - first, where have you been hiding for the past five years, and second, buy this and watch - you'll be hooked. I bought the blu-ray set rather than the DVDs because (a) I have a blu-ray player so might as well use it as such, and (b) the HD quality and sound are fantastic. Although, I have to agree with another reviewer on this point, as season one is not as clear in either department as the rest of the series. Nevertheless, it's great fun and a seriously good Xmas present for any fan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy if using iPhone4, 8 Jan. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought one of these, relying principally on a previous reviewer's assurance that the dock was compatible with the iPhone4. My advice: don't buy it if you have an iPhone4, as it is NOT compatible - the sound is awful and you get a message saying 'this device is not optimised for this iPhone and may experience distortion...'. So I'm afraid I'm back to square one, looking for something to plug in and charge my iPhone4 while still playing my iTunes with decent sound quality (the reason I disregarded some of the cheaper models available was due to poor sound quality reviews).
