This book is probably one of the most life-changing novels in history. During school reading time, I would frantically rush to my seat and pull out the book. I cannot wait to start Catching Fire!!! :)

I became immediately interested in this book just by looking at the title, as my name is Anya (my mum is ESaunders)! This is a very moving book, and quite realistic. I recommend it, along with Private Peaceful.

Jamie, the protagonist, is living a chaotic and lonely life, haunted by the past and seemingly unable to break free from its horrors. But when his paths cross with Lydia, lonely in a different way, their lives are never to be the same again....
This book walks a fine line between tragedy & humour; not easy to combine successfully, but it somehow works. The depiction of rural Ireland felt caricatured at times, & the unrelenting horrors of the orphanages described were hard to stomach. But the utter charm of the main characters & the author's ability to make you identify with them, and care deeply for them, was what made it special for me.
I found myself laughing out loud when reading it on the tube and, at one very moving point, crying uncontrollably on the escalator -argh - so impossible was it to put down!.
So, a little uneven in places, but overall a deeply moving & satisfying read.

this was one of the best ss stories but peter is starting to get on my nerves: he bosses the ss members around, upsets them and threatens to chuck them out of the society. but apart from that i love secret seven books

I thought that this was an amazing book, really emotional and interesting. I think that it should be for 10-12 yr olds, as it is a bit depressing because the children in the hos pital are strapped down in metal bars and cant move
