An excellent Lent book. Not "difficult" but certainty challenging. Each chapter can be read and thought about seperately over the weeks.

This puzzle stands out from many by the good firm quality of the board used by this company. It was interesting to make, with no great area of sky where the interest tends to fail!

Tom Wright's books are always good value. Here there is the added value of his own translation of the section of text used for each day's reading plus his interesting and helpful commentary written in such a way that his deep scholarship becomes available to everyone. His comments are far from remaining "theoretical" as he makes the challenge of the gospel very real, especially in the thoughts and prayer which ends each day's reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast moving and exciting story, 31 May 2012
Escape from Versailles is a delightful, warm and addictive read, rich in history from the years running up to the French Revolution. The reader is taken into the lives of Juliette and Henri as they move from a secure and aristocratic childhood towards uncertain and turbulent times. Throughout the novel, the author brings this time in history to life through the experiences of these two characters as they grow up living within the walls of Versailles. The tension builds as the years move towards 1789, raising frightening questions as to the fate of those living at the royal palace. Although written primarily for the younger reader, people of all ages will find themselves caught up in the story - and will find themselves learning more about an intriguing period of history. A thoroughly enjoyable tale and a triumphant first novel for Kate Sargent!
