So Many Children: A young woman struggles for a brighter tomorrow
So Many Children: A young woman struggles for a brighter tomorrow

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written book and well worth reading., 10 Mar. 2017

A story of extreme poverty as it was many years ago and how families struggled to make ends meet because there were too many children being born because of ignorance and lack of contraception.
A very down to earth story of those hard times and when the man of the house was lord and master, keeping his wife and children in need of food and clothes while the menfolk drank or gambled money away. This book is so well written of those times that really did exist.

This story of a selfish woman who would stop at nothing almost to be rich and her enchanting little girl who had a sad start to her life and just wanted to be loved to make her happy. The two different lives she had to lead , one very strict for her mother and a loving, happy and relaxed life with her dear Annie Bessie who was the neighbour next door.
The hard life and living on the breadline of poverty, then onto a completely different lifestyle.
This is a very moving story . Funny and sad at the same time.
I do recommend this book for a really heartfelt story.

This is a very down to earth story that involves rich and working class people. Very hard working families from two different classes.
The honesty and determination of Poppy and the way she has been brought up serves her well in her working life. Her sincere friendships he has with everybody she meets is something quite rare. Her friendship with her working colleague Jean is very supportive. Charlotte, her very mischievous other friend is a joy.
This is a lovely book from beginning to end, with a good ending.
I thoroughly recommend this book.

A very good story of sadness, happiness and jealously. Good times and hard times.
I did think that the ending was rather abrupt and there was more of the story to tell. However it was a good read.

A gripping story of both happiness and sadness. Nellie's life had many wrists and turns through a lot of hardship as there was building up to, through and after the war. A very good and we'll written story. A good read and a book that is not easy to put down.

This book gripped me from the 1st page.
Having lived in the East end and through the war, seeing the way my own Mother had to work so hard scrubbing floors to help make ends meet as my Dad did not earn enough to keep a family of 4.
This book took me back to those days and things I could relate to.
I was pleased with the ending for Maggie. I thoroughly recommend this book for a good, down to earth and interesting read.

Nearly half way through it and can't put it down.
Excellent description of the London Blitz as that was just how it was. Very well written
I hope it has a happy ending for the little refugee girl. Thoroughly recommended read.

I have just finished reading this book and this and her 1st one Lizzie's Secret are the best books I have read in a long time. Happiness, sadness. love and intrigue are all in these 2 books so well written. The type of book you cannot put down.
I hope there is going to be a third one on Lizzie, Beth, Ed and how their lives and businesses continue through the rest of the war and after as I feel there is so much more to give.
2 books I thoroughly recommend as both are very gripping and down to earth.

A bit boring. You might as well just turn on QVC and done with it. Not a recommended read
