1.0 out of 5 stars Costs too much, 15 Mar. 2015
Far, far too much for a digital book even if it is very good, who would pay £80.00. Kindle books should be cheaper, full stop. Albert would have agreed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbearable, 21 July 2013
The author of this long winded piffle does not like the work of the great sculptor and artist Ossip Zadkine, calling it 'bad Picasso'. In this he shows his ignorance and lack of understanding of the art of the man at the heart of the village Sanders seeks to analyse. Not wishing to stop there he persists in a series of petty mined anti-British sentiments, sneering, along with the haughty chef in the restaurant La Recreation, that we are given poorer cuts of meat as we do not understand how food should be cooked and that our women wear dresses 20 years out of date.

I suggest you give this Yankee Francophile and his French chums a big swerve and let make sure no more of us annoying Brits bother to spend another penny in the restaurant La Recreation in Les Arques in southern France. As Sanders claims that half the customers are from the UK that might make toffee-nosed puffed up foodies like this think again.

Avoid.

To much detail and not enough insight, this is the worst book I have ever read.

Beautiful. engaging, inspiring, wonderful, fascinating, and so very easy on the eye, this video is never boring. What a great artist Mellis was and yet she is only just being discovered properly. I love this dvd and watch it often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Olly pipe down!!!, 19 April 2011
This review is from: Winnie the Pooh [DVD] (DVD)
Yes, the books are better - but this is just a nice film to take your kids to. Olly has gone all Phd Lit. Crit. on us here, please just go and see the film and think this " why have we not put it into film here in Britain?". My son loved it and so did i, as a result we are now reading all the original stories.Winnie-the-Pooh

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 18 Feb. 2010
This review is from: Ponyo [2 Disc Edition] [DVD] (DVD)
Saw this at the Duke of Yorks cinema on a wet half-term Thursday afternoon with my four year-old lad and it blew us both away. A cinema full of kids with them all transfixed by a film is a
rare thing to see.

This cartoon animation blows away its Pixar rivals in terms of sheer imagination, and is a total delight to see.

It made me realise why i go to the cinema in the first place, I will order it on DVD asap.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful piece of scholarship, 19 Oct. 2008
This is a wonderful book, not least because of the accompanying information, maps, appendices and photos of artifacts that all swell the readers understanding of the locations and context of this fantastic writer.

It is ideal for novices and experts alike, with very modern translation that has been painstakingly researched.

This is about as good as it gets. Its not very portable though!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must See, 18 Jun. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Just seen this at the Duke of York's Cinema in Brighton. This film is worth it for the shots of (for me) an unseen and unknown (black and white) Art-Deco Los Angeles. Great characters, incredible humour and pathos all make for a beautiful and stunning film. It does not really get much better than this in terms of direction and dialogue.
