4.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly well designed coffee pot, 2 Oct. 2017
This is a well made (apart from a slightly loose handle) and well designed moka pot. The handle shape (not curving in at the bottom) helps keep it relatively cool. The slightly flared base improves stability and seems to result in it needing a slightly lower heat that other pots to make good coffee. Most importantly though, the dimensions of the internal parts mean it is not to sensitive to the measures of water, coffee and heat, and I've been able to make coffee easily and reliably.

The pot is made in China, as noted by another reviewer, but I've seen Italian made moka pots whose function is far worse.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stylish but ineffective design, 28 Sept. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This moka pot looks great, but there's something about it's design that makes it almost impossible to get consistent results. In eight attempts to make coffee with this pot only once was the result an upper chamber filled with liquid. The other seven attempts boiled the lower chamber almost dry, with very lots of steam emitted but not much liquid. It seems almost impossible to get water rising through the central pipe and through the coffee grounds without out it boiling and producing very bitter coffee.

(I'm confident the fault is with the pot and not with my technique as I've since bought one of a different brand and had success every time.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Style over function, 19 Jun. 2016
This review is from: Retro Larder Fridge - Color: Green
I've had my green retro larder fridge for over a year now. It has been quiet, and seemingly efficient throughout. Compared to other fridges I've had it runs slightly colder, but in the main that's a good thing. And it looks great. But there are a few problems.

The removable top has no strength - the slightest weight on it and it bends excessively.

There's a small tool for cleaning the drainage pipe that's designed to be stored in said pipe. It tends to get frozen in place.

If you set the fridge on the cooler half of its scale, the self-defrosting can't cope and ice builds up inside on the back wall of the fridge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap replacement batteries for Panasonic GM1 etc, 24 Jan. 2016
Note that these batteries give an average of 7.2V and maximum voltage 8.4V, whereas the Panasonic ones are electronically controlled to be closer to 7.2V even when fully charged. Despite not providing the precise voltage of the original Panasonic batteries, they have worked fine in a GM1, and using the original Panasonic charger. However, the battery life does not live up to the claimed 1000 mAh: the Panasonic battery at only 680mAh seems to always last longer. But as they are a small fraction of the cost of the official Panasonic battery, that's a reasonable trade-off.

I have had these batteries for two years now, and their ability to hold their charge is starting to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars A smart looking case with a quality feel, 23 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very first impression was not good: the mobile phone slipped into the plastic-holder of this case alarmingly easily. But despite that the fit is surprisingly snug, and it's reassuringly difficult to remove the phone from this case once it is in: it's not going to fall out by accident.

Externally, the case looks and feels better than the PU leather cover that it is. The case material is quite thick (about 2 mm), which contributes to the quality feel, but also adds quite a bit to the thickness of the phone. Inside, the credit card slits are usable, though feel like they wouldn't last long, and the other slot is too tight be used for much at all.

The tab is slightly magnetic and reliably keeps the case shut: despite keeping the phone in a trouser pocket, I've not once had the tab flap open. Even with a credit card in each card slot, the case still shuts neatly without bulging and stays shut. The tab also serves to protect the power/unlock button on the Xperia Z5 Compact. That is a rather a mixed blessing, as it gets in the way if you are using the phone's fingerprint unlock feature.

The 'stand function' works reasonably well: having folded the case into the stand position, is stays in position fairly well. But the tab of the case tends to curl down in front of the screen, so you still need to keep a grip on the case to keep the tab folded back out of the way.

One star deducted for the "free" screen protector, which is of lower quality than the case: the cut-outs for sensors etc are quite large and, despite the screen being spotlessly clean before fitting the protector, it tends to come detached at the edges.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good fit but cut-outs too big, 22 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This silicone case is a good fit to the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, and gives a good grip to the phone without excessive texturing of the case. But it is let down in two respects:
The cut-outs for buttons, speakers and camera lens are too big. This means it is cheaper to make, but leaves only a thin piece of plastic between the bottom speaker and micro-USB port, making that part of the case a little baggy.
The case limits contact with the power button. As this also serves as fingerprint reader, it makes it difficult to use the fingerprint unlock feature of the phone. (This is likely to be a problem for any case of this type, rather than a fault in the design of this particular case.)

Despite that, it serves its purpose of protecting the phone against knocks, making it easier to keep hold of, and adding a bit of colour to the phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit pricey but excellent quality and a precise fit, 22 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the third smartphone I have had screen protectors by @FoliX for, and they are rather pricey compared with those from other manufacturers. But they are more precisely manufactured, seem to attach better to the screen, and come with clear instructions and 'tools' (a cloth and a credit-card sized piece of plastic) for fitting.

This screen protector for Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is more precisely made than most: the holes around the camera lens and sensors leave little room for error, and the overall size of the screen protector also leaves little margin. That makes it a bit fiddly to fit, as it needs to be perfectly aligned, but does mean that the end result looks and feels better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A long lasting watch for this price, 22 Oct. 2015
I had one of these watches for 9 years. Bought in 2006 it finally stopped working in 2015, which is not bad going for the price - much the same then as it is now. When I first got the watch, it ran fast, gaining several minutes a day. But if you have the tools to get the back off, then it is fairly easy to adjust the speed (there is a little lever with a + and - sign next to it). If it weren't for the need to make that adjustment to start with, I would have given 5 stars. The watch face is clear and easy to read, despite being small in comparison with more recent watch designs. The strap also lasted the whole 9 years though was difficult to keep clean.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very bright, but slightly too tight., 7 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Proviz Glove (Sports Apparel)
These gloves are described on their packaging as being a "tight fit for extra feeling". I found them rather tight to put on, when dry, but comfortable once my hand was in. I did not notice any "extra feeling" in comparison with other cycling gloves of similar thickness but looser fit. The reflective strips are better than on most gloves.

Where these gloves fail is that once they've absorbed a little moisture, either rain or sweat, they swell slightly. They then become almost impossible to put back on. So they're fine if you're going to keep your gloves on throughout your ride, not so good if you might take a break.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set-up, trouble free operation, 28 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
On taking this out of the box, this router felt rather cheap: a plastic body and quite a lightweight. However its performance is much better.

Bought after a poor experience with a TP-link router, this router in contrast was very easy to set-up. Connecting a Windows 7 computer was as close to plug-and-play as making a new internet connection with Windows 7 gets. After that, setting up the internet connection was easy as it automatically detecting the type of connection. Connecting items to my local network was similarly easy, both wired into the router and wireless.

Range of the wireless seems fairly good. The manual says the wireless is directional, with the signal being primarily broadcast through the large sides of the router, but there is still a reasonable signal range in the 'weak' directions.

In operation the router runs a little warm as might be expected, but not hot.

My only complaints are the short length of the power cord, which is only about one metre long, and the very short timeout when logged in to the router's admin account - no doubt a security feature but making it difficult to use if you need to refer to the manual whilst making configuration changes.
