5.0 out of 5 stars Small Correction, 15 Dec. 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tragedy Unfolds, 30 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you are English and value our history, heritage, architecture, ancient institutions and indeed our very existance then you should read this book.

You cannot fail to have noticed the incredible and in some instances bizarre changes which have taken place in England in the past fifty years and more particularly in the last twenty. I refer, of course, to the vast number of immigrants who have been invited to take up residence in this country of ours; a large percentage of them from Pakistan and other Muslim countries. David Abbott first describes what has happened in the Royal Borough of Greenwich where he grew up, and has also happened in many other towns and cities up and down the country, where the settlers, as he calls them, have successfully squeezed out a large proportion of the indigenous population. He goes on to describe how this has been engineered by conniving politicians, the human & civil rights industry and various monitors of claimed or perceived acts of racial discrimination.

In the final essays the machinations, greed and criminal acts of various named individuals are detailed but he finally expounds his vision of the future which is perhaps a little far fetched and frightening but not in my view impossible to envisage.

I now suspect that Mr Abbott may be in need of Police protection in the manner it was accorded to Salman Rushdie.

I have awarded this book five stars but would have preferred to have awarded ten.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ludicrous, 28 July 2013
I have not had the pleasure of using this half step because at nearly one hundred and fifty quid it is beyond my means but I do query the necessity for it to be encrusted with diamonds although I suppose there are some people who would not dream of using anything else.

I'm afraid that I did not find these pegs to be all that they are cracked up to be. Upon meeting any resistance they either bent, broke or bent and then broke. Probably OK in decent loam or sand. I guess that at the price little more can be expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slippery Surface, 29 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
All went together without any problems but be aware that that the tray has a smooth gloss finish without any ridges and becomes very slippery when wet. A bath or shower mat is essential. Hence 4 stars rather than 5.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate Thermostat, 4 Mar. 2013
Have just arranged to send our Dualit Table Top Oven back to whence it came as the thermostat was very inaccurate, with food too often burnt. With the temperature control set at 140c an oven thermometer placed on the middle shelf displayed 180c. This of couse may be a one off but we preferred not to chance another one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Goddnight Vienna, 9 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book having been impressed, but grossly misled, by the very favourable reviews although the rather garish cover did ring a faint alarm bell. Bearing in mind, however, the old adage that a book should not be judged by its cover I went ahead and ordered. Mistake!

This novel abounds with cliches such as 'his strong arms around her'and inexplicable inaccuracies. For instance a train journey from Reading in Berkshire finishes not at Paddington but at London, Victoria without recourse to tube, bus or taxi. A march by concentration camp prisoners from Dachau, near Munich, to Sagan which in those days was in Lower Silesia (but now in Poland) for the purpose apparantly of constructing Stalag Luft lll took 5 weeks and 3 days and the prisoners, one is told, covered some two thousand miles. Alittle research reveals the distance to be approximately 670km and that this notorious prisoner of war camp was completed and received its first POWs in March 1942.

Goodnight Vienna must rank as the worst novel I've ever read and I nearly threw it in the bin several times before reaching the end. To sum up: utterly puerile.
