They definitely look the part but in action these just don't deliver on any front. The sound is way too bassy, they seem to be way over amping whatever source you plug them into, everything is too centralised, no seperation. Got a similar pair designed by Kejee, similar price, sound amazing. Don't waste your time with these.

Not so much a review of the movie - if your'e a fan of Ray Harryhausen in his prime you'll be familiar with this incredibly fun flick and this Spanish import delivers a high quality video/audio presentation at a great price - this is just to say a big thank you to Den's DVD's for their very prompt and efficient service. Cheers guys!!

5.0 out of 5 stars At this price it's a steal!, 4 Jun. 2015
You don't have to be familiar with Hitchcock's version to get a kick out of this show. Here we get a kind of origin story that manages to make Norman Bates quite a sympathetic character and even kind of demonises his beloved Mother. The scripts for each episode can vary in quality but there is always the beautiful scenery (looks great on blu) to appreciate and the performances, particularly by the formidable Vera Farmiga, are, on the whole, excellent. The test of a good show is the "just one more episode" when it's way past your bedtime dilemma. This'll probably cause it.

So you're the kind of punter who considers any story set outside the constraints of the real world to be "bloody daft", as my dad would say, and as such will take a lot of convincing. Ok, let me begin by making a few comparisons. Imagine a show that combines the shocking, turn-the-story-on-it's-head brutality of Breaking Bad, the intricate plots within deadly plots of The Sopranos, and the back-stabbing and political manouvering of, say, House of Cards or The Good Wife and you'll be halfway to understanding what an amazing show this is. Blessed with a cast of mainly English and Irish actors who so fully inhabit their roles you will soon stop caring about where it is set and just enjoy the incredible journeys ( both physical and emotional) that these fantastic ,wonderfully written characters undertake. All three seasons feature cinematography and production design of staggering quality that would not be out of place in a Hollywood blockbuster and writing that demonstrates how those kind of big,star-studded event movies should REALLY be done. Characters that are rich and deeply layered, plot-lines that are gripping, unpredictable and at times incredibly moving. The dialogue is salty, sweary and very grown-up (no thees and thous or cod Shakespeare here!) and the actors clearly relish every syllable of it. I hope I have managed to convince a few doubters here and can only envy those who are about to dip their toe in the Game of Thrones waters for the first time. You're gonna LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Uh-oh, re-make on the way :(, 5 Sept. 2013
It appears the original-idea-free zone that is Hollywood is about to besmirch the memory of yet another of my all-time favourite movies. If you are a lot younger than me it's just possible that this wonderful example of the horror/suspence genre has slipped under your radar and, if that is the case, I strongly urge you to add this title to your collection. Directed by Tobe Hooper (though many claim the hand of producer Steven Speilberg is clearly visible) and starring the charming Jo-Beth Williams and Craig T Nelson, this is a slow-burner, as it seeks to build an image of loving family life in the first act, which it subsequently sets out to all but destroy by the third. I won't give away any plot details (don't understand why people do that in their reviews!), all I will say is that it's wonderfully acted, expertly photographed and features one the most eerie, spellbinding, pulse-pounding, ear-splitting soundtracks ever committed to celluloid by the late and much lamented Jerry Goldsmith.

This review is from: Altered States [DVD] [1980] (DVD)
Altered States [Blu-ray] [1980] [US Import]When I first saw this in the cinema I staggered outside in a state of total bewilderment/bliss. Without doubt Ken Russell's most out there (like pluto) production and coming from the man who brought you The Devils,Tommy and Lair of the White Worm that's really saying something. The story concerns the efforts of an experimental (mostly on himself) scientist to try and link the effects of strong psychotropic drugs to physical regression into a primordial state. Sounds a bit highbrow? Don't worry, this is Ken Russell, so there's lashings of kinky sex, weird religious imagery and some of the best visual interpretations of tripping off your tits you'll ever see. Oh, and William Hurt is fantastic in what was his first major role.

if you're a fan of sci-fi,cold war suspense and top-notch pre-cgi effects work, then this is right up your alley. If,however, your tastes run to more modern fare and stunning hi-def presentation then this title should best be avoided. Not to say that it's a bad transfer, in some scenes far from it,but you can't expect warner bros to lavish attention on an almost 30 year old, not-exactly-top-of-the-want-list movie. I am old enough to have experienced 2010 in a well equipped cinema where it was a jaw-dropping peice of work and this disc brings back some of those memories.
