The Dragonbone Chair: Memory, Sorrow & Thorn Book 1 is a trilogy I read on publication many years ago. It's also a trilogy I've re-read on numerous occasions in the intervening 24 years since To Green Angel Tower landed in hardback. Aside from a rather slow section around the ghant nest, the books are pretty much near perfect as far as fantasy novels go. They have been hugely influential in what has come afterwards, and let's not forget that a lot of what we now consider fantasy classics were written afterwards (A Song of Ice and Fire, The Malazan Book of the Fallen, Robin Hobbs entire library of fantasy, and most of the Wheel of Time).

Returning to a set of much loved characters is always a challenge, especially when the sequel series is not set immediately after the original and this new series, The Last King of Ostern Ard, is set 34 years after the events of the preceding book*. A risk then but a risk Williams has carried off with aplomb. Not only do the characters "feel" right- they behave, speak and interact as the reader expects them to, they have aged and grown up realistically too. Simon hasn't been the perfect king, and other characters flaws are all too visible. It just works, and that is as great a compliment as a fan of the series can give. I genuinely feels like a proper continuation in terms of characters and continuity.

*ignoring the novella The Heart of What Was Lost.

About as sturdy as you could expect for a case at this price I suppose. The stud that holds the neck strap in has broken after less than 10 days. What's the point of getting a hard case to protect something if it's just going to fall to bits?

Fabulously imagined story behind the awe inspiring white horse. I read this after visiting the horse and thought this a wonderful description of what may have happened on that hillside.

Although I'm a few years younger than Neil, we obviously had so many similar Who experiences when we were younger as I constantly had to put his book down to pop downstairs and check things- whether I had the Ark in Space Target paperback stopped me in my tracks for ten minutes of frantic rummaging, for example- which is a testament to his engaging and humorous style of writing. If you were ever a fan of old Who or are married to someone who was, this book is utterly essential and well worth a purchase.

If you've read his blog, it's a no brainer, if you haven't, it's also well worth a purchase too. I'm off to refresh myself on Blakes 7 for his next endeavour.

Couldn't put this down, it's an amazingly descriptive journey into the power of art, the mind and life itself. Brilliant

3.0 out of 5 stars A gift for my wife, 20 Dec. 2013
I bought this for my wife after she complained about a bit of a to-do with Pam St Clement in M&S over the last tub of chocolate mini-bites. My wife had her hand on the tub but Pam snatched it out from under her without so much as a by your leave.

My wife was delighted and stationed the clock in the downstairs toilet (AKA the stenchroom of utter doom) and now squeezes one out whilst staring at Pam St Clement's smug face. Two marks docked as it's only black and white, Pam in her full orange glory would have been better.

Completely absorbing, I surprised myself but I loved every word. One of the few books you need to read in your lifetime.

£100 for a streamer that doesn't include local network streaming, from either a PC or a NAS box? Seems well overpriced for what you get. £60 more will get you a boxee box and that have everything this does as well as local streaming, either via network or a USB attached drive.

What is wrong with you? This is a product devised by a marketing department to solve a problem that doesn't exist. For goodness sake, just wipe your babies bottom with a baby wipe, or a damp cloth, like millions of other people do. There is no guilt involved in not warming the wipes out. If you're feeling guilt over this, I shudder to think what else you're doing to endanger your precious little darling.

(a dad with 3 kids who seem well adjusted despite having their bottoms wiped with cold cold baby wipes)
