5.0 out of 5 stars a blast, 21 Mar. 2009
i've read a lot of reviews slating this film for being ott but what did they expect?it's an indiana jones film - pure escapism and not to be taken seriously.after the grim (but superb) dark knight this is a welcome alternative.yes its cheesy, and harrison fords looking his age but there's something magical about this film that takes me back to being a kid.the action scenes are terrific, special effects brilliant,it's just a blast and it looks cracking on bluray.

when starsailor released their 2001 debut love is here they were tipped for big things ,however disapointing follow ups silence is easy and on the outside never fulfilled that promise and only now are the band releasing a record that lives up to the their early hype.all the plans,is i'd say their masterpiece, always in the shadow of coldplay, chris martin and the boys would kill for a song as good as hurts so much a big,big ballad and the standout song on an album of highlights.first single tell me it's not over is great, the ronnie wood guesting title track is excellent,up their with their best and the moody rocker listen up has a some great guitar parts really beefing up their sound.this is starsailor's time to shine, hopefully the record buying public will give this album a chance,it baffles me that the likes of snow patrol have cracked america and sold shedloads of records when they are so vastly inferior to this lot.already in my album of the year list, give it a try you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 1 Feb. 2009
depeche mode are one of my favourite bands and having sadly never saw them live this brilliant dvd is the next best thing.highlights are the obvious big hits - enjoy the silence ,personal jesus, and behind the wheel are all amazing as is a surprising just cant get enough a big camp pop song if ever there was one and so out of sync with the dark songs dm are now well known for,but it works with the audience lapping it up.dave gahan's voice is better than ever and my only moan is that they never played the excellent it's no good and barrel of a gun from the under rated ultra album, still its a must have dvd if your a dm fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars great stuff, 11 Jan. 2009
depeche mode's sofad live album is excellent and surprising given that while this was recorded the band were falling apart due to dave gahans increasing heroin addiction.the songs sound great live its the mode at their rockiest with the likes of i feel you ,walking in my shoes and in your room ditching the synths for a grungier, dirtier rock would have been nice to hear the likes of enjoy the silence etc but all dm fans should have this.essential.

the verves comeback after a decade away is an album that seems to have divided fans.i think its great to have them back, nick mccabe is a genius and ashcrofts voice is better than is noise is a great kick start to their comeback, and a surprising one too,the danciest record they have made.the soothing and mellow judas and valium skies, along with rather be is the verve at their most laid back and sounds a lot like their early pre urban hymns track though is sit and wonder its amzing with mcabes explosive guitars working up a deep, dark groove, easily the best song of the year and if evidence the verve reforming was a good thing this is it.if you have a record player its worth buying the rather be singles backed up by new songs all night long and major force these would have made the album even better they are great.also doing the rounds on the net is an unreleased song 'blue pacific ocean' its as good as anything they have ever done, psychedelic and mellow lets hope it gets a release soon.after lots of hyped up bands who fail to deliver - kings of leon, snow patrol and keane its great to see the verve back lets hope we dont wait to long on album no 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars their best yet, 30 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Seventh Tree (Audio CD)
goldfrapp could easily have made 'supernature 2' and watched the royalty cheques roll in,instead ditching the glam-disco for psychedelic-folk pop have taken a huge first i wasn't too keen on them going in this direction as i loved black cherry and supernature but seventh tree is easily the best album the duo have filler here, singles a&e and happiness are perfect pop.opening track clowns is atmospheric soaked in strings and has a real melancholy feel, its stunning.standout track though is little bird starts of slow then explodes into a psychedelic wig out which wouldn't be out of place in the beatles later ,experimental album, its that good.who knows where goldfrapp will go next but they obviously dont want to stick to one genre and in this day and age of faceless bland indie soft rock thats great news for real music fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, 28 Dec. 2008
by far the best movie of the year i'll make this short if this doesnt sweep the board at next years oscars then theres no justice.much more than just another superhero movie its a crime classic up their with heat and the departed,it just happens to have batman in it.heath ledgers 'joker' is the greatest villain on screen in decades he's mesmerising and long after the film finished he stays in your mind, such a tragedy he never got the chance to see the finished film.lets hope he at least gets nominated and hopefully wins a posthumous oscar.if youve not seen this (why not?!) buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars wanted, 28 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Wanted [DVD] (DVD)
wanted seems to have been cast aside in film of the year polls and been overshadowed by the (stunning) dark knight.for sheer mindless friday night thrills though this delivers in spades.its an ott, violent ,foul mouthed action packed blockbuster that doesnt take itself seriously and if you go along with it you'll have a blast. the cast look like they did, james mcavoy and angelina jolie are terrific and theres enough blacker than black humor here to even out the gruesome, nasty violence.action scenes are terrific with some mindblowing stunts.sure it rips off the matrix but who cares?bring on the sequel.

oasis are back with their finest album in years.lets get the negatives out the way first. two songs here let the album down and if they had been put aside for b-sides and replaced with better tracks your looking at a five star album.get of your high horse with noels whiny vocals and the liam penned aint got nothin are howlers.thankfully the rest of the album is oasis firing on all cylinders.shock of the lightning ,the first single is a turbo charged rocker with noel and gems duelling guitars brewing up a whirlwind psychedelic groove, its the most exciting song they have done in years argubaly since the glory days of outa time is a dreamy ballad that while a little too lennon-y for me is still a strong number.standout tracks though are the stunning 'the turning' backed up by an electric piano its classic oasis with a great sneering liam vocal.the gem written 'to be where theres life' is another psychedelic cracker when the drums kick in its superb and sounds great live.andy bells nature of reality is a winner and the noel sung 'waiting for the rapture and falling down are great.all said this is oasis back on top at this rate the next album which is already in the demo stages could well be the masterpiece they are capable of producing, for now this will do of the best albums of the year.

after seeing razorlight supporting suede last year i wasn't impressed at all,in fact i thought they were awful. then i heard the excellent singles golden touch and stomping rip it up and i had to buy the album.this a great debut, every song a highlight and after several listens it really gets under your skin.they've been compared to the libertines but personally i think they are much better and along with keane, hope of the states and scissor sisters have released one of the best albums of the year.
