Local Girl Missing
Local Girl Missing
by Claire Douglas
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.59

4.0 out of 5 stars Local Girl Missing - Clare Douglas - Is the Past Best Left There?, 29 July 2016
This review is from: Local Girl Missing (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The past comes back to haunt or does it?
Sophie and Francesca (as she was called back then when she meet Sophie). Both good, bestest of friends you just know that at some point there is going to be tears, tantrums and maybe something untoward about to happen. Sophie went missing presumed maybe to have taken her own life, but did she and if so why, if not who and why? The story had me gripped (not right from the start though) as seemed a bit slow build up but then got going to a quicker pace. To one that I thought was quite enjoyable.

Fran now comes back to the sleepy old place it all happened, now a proud boutique owner and wanting to put the past behind her in some ways (hence name shortening). What with the appearance of a trainer washed up though it sounds unlikely as it looks like it might be her best friends Sophie's item of footwear. If so she needs to find out why and what happened, lots of dairy entries that show a life of girlie infatuation, love friendship but other things slightly deeper I felt. No spoilers the blurb says so much already about other characters involved and think you need to try to bypass that and just read it. Yes enjoyed it but not as much as her previous book The Sisters, but still glad to have spent the time reading it, not a massive thick read either so managed to get through it whilst taking some time out recovering with backache. What I do like was the fact there were no loose ends everything seemed to make sense at to what happened in the past, yes sometimes the past is left behind in this case it was for someone involved.

How to Find Love in a Book Shop
How to Find Love in a Book Shop

Price: £5.00

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Find Love in a Book Shop - Veronica Henry - well worth the read, 28 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you love books this is a book worth spending some time reading, if not it might even convert you.
Lots of richly filled characters all with a story to tell and the way they get told just held me and wanting to find out more about them all.
Not your average love searching book in a book store type of read at all. Did think it would be but even better, the scenes set around the Christmas time sounded wonderful and all just got me doing nothing but wanting to finish this book to see what the future held for all in it. Yes some sad and emotional parts there has to be but for me I did not mind having spent full price on the hardback as thought it worth every penny.
I could list all the characters and say what ever happened and who was searching or maybe thinking of love but you have to get into the book shop to feel the pull of it all. Worth taking the time out to read.

Salter Slow Cook Electronic Timer
Salter Slow Cook Electronic Timer
Offered by HoMedics Group
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Salted Kitchen Electronic Timer - Good Basic Kitchen Timer, 27 July 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
So easy to use, numbers clear and crisp and easy to read.
Magnetic so easy to stick to fridge and easily be found. Just is useful if cooking a few items all requiring different times, oven might have timer function and phones but sometimes just another timer needed too. Battery included, sound emitted just about right, can be heard over usual kitchen clatter. Have had another make very much like this one so testing this one out side by side, this one bigger screen though so easier to read without need for my glasses. It might not be a fancy shape or made into a kitchen themed fun item, but a good basic standard kitchen timer.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet Lipstick, Number T06 Cherry Leaders
Price: £8.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Bourjois Rouge Edition - Reminds me of Old Fadhioned Lipgloss and No Staying Power, 26 July 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Bit surprised with this as reminds me more of old fashioned lip gloss but in modern case.
Tried it over a clear lip balm I already had on and it was actually much shearer and lighter than the actual colour looked. Looked first like gloopy stuff on the wand, but easy to apply. Do I like it yes and no, OK for wearing around the house but not a make up staple I could live without. Also after a cup of tea it some came off half way through. So not a stayer, did leave my lips feeling soft but that may be because of the amount of times I have had to reapply it after drinking, eating (prawn crackers all smeared with it). At least it should come off cups easily in dishwasher if it comes away so easily so that's one good thing. Glad to have got this to try out with Vine otherwise would have thought I had wasted my money as not quiet as good as I was expecting. When I apply a lip colour just want to apply and go not spend ages trying to make sure it had gotten into corners and all even in colouring which sadly I had to with this.

The Letter

5.0 out of 5 stars The Letter - Kathryn Hughes - So Much Emotion Contained in the Pages, 25 July 2016

This review is from: The Letter (Paperback)
I suppose I read this the other way round, Kathryn Hughes latest book 'The Secret' before this one. Well enjoyed her latest that went back and got this one 'The Letter' and not disappointed at all. I would recommend that if you have read the latest but not this one, it is worth getting hold of as such a good read.
Chrissie and Tina two very different women from different times but whom both the story is centred around. After finding a letter in an article of clothing for charity the scene gets set for lots of emotion, heart strings pulling and just a dammed good read. To say the outcome or if it was going the way I had imagined would give too much away as you need to feel the rawness and have the odd tear here and there to really enjoy it to its full potential. How she managed to get so much emotion into her reads I do not know but so glad that she does red eyes apart.

Burt's Bees 2016 Natural Cleansers Collection
Burt's Bees 2016 Natural Cleansers Collection
Price: £18.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Burt's Bees 2016 Natural Cleansers Collection - Yummy Orange Smell, Big Chunky Face Scrub - 3 Great Items, 24 July 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Three good quality products all nicely packaged and would make a lovely gift for someone that loves the Burt's range. One thing to note though my box did not have a seal of tape across top so plastic tray had slipped out of box and lip salve had come loose and rolling about box. Not an issue for myself but if as a gift could be.

The face wash smelt so strong of orange it felt almost like I was putting fresh orange juice onto it, the consistency reminded me a bit of honey. My face felt slightly stingy and woken up by it used it after using the face scrub that also came with it. Think even just using it alone it would stimulate the face and leave it looking both brighter and feeling cleansed. Now I like this product in the set so much that I would buy it when this tube has all gone. A suprise to myself as previously used another item in the range but my skin reacted to it in not a good way. This set however nothing like that happened using them.

The face scrub think big and chunky pieces and you would be right, not gentle tiny bits but big bits. However it did not irritate my face, will be honest and say this did suprise me as thought it might have done. I felt like it was giving a deep clean and my skin felt cleansed but not bright red or irritated even used some on the neck area and again no nasty reactions. Again like the face cleanser I would buy this as pleased with it. Now both of these items had a silver foil on, I tried to squeeze the cleanser out and nothing happened apart from a lovely orangey smell then realised foil on it.

Lastly the lip balm a nice clear coloured well none coloured salve that gives your lips a nice nourished feel but does make them tingle ever so slightly when applied. All in all a good set for just using yourself as works out cheaper buying the set rather than all item bought separately or as a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Secret - Kathryn Hughes - Poignant Read - Enjoyable, 22 July 2016
This review is from: The Secret (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is such a poignant and sad story at times, with deception and love along with emotions. People with secrets, already the description gives away a lot too much really in my estimation, but thankfully that does not detract from the story. Back in the 70's not the done thing to have a child out of wedlock and things got put into place to almost hide the fact that it happened. Anyone that has been adopted will probably know the feeling of that strong urge to find out who and where they are from and why. The feelings here seem done in a straight forward way of speaking in true northerly fashion and I could relate to them so easily. I cried at times feeling for all concerned even the boozey mother, but also the lives of those lost in the mine shaft and which is all part of the story too. No spoilers as so easy to say what the outcomes for all and all that happened but would so spoil it as it has to be read and enjoyed. Did not read the first book by Kathryn Hughes 'The Letter' but ordered it now after reading this one and if I enjoy it half as much as I have this one will be more than pleased.

Fool For Love: Cupcake Lovers Book 1 (A feel-good series of love, friendship and cake)
by Beth Ciotta
Edition: Paperback
Price: £7.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Fool for Love - Beth Ciotta - Frothy Light Read, 22 July 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
An easy going romance read that is both modern and having cup cake recipes in it, what's not to love?
First one by Beth Ciotta I have read and suprised that the book has been around a while without me seeing it to read it. Classic girl, boy and will they or won't they and will their work get in the way of romance? Yes just easy reading but enjoyable for when wanting a frothy read that is not taxing. Might even be tempted to get the next ones.

David Beckham Beyond Forever Eau de Toilette for Him 60 ml
David Beckham Beyond Forever Eau de Toilette for Him 60 ml

5.0 out of 5 stars David Beckham - Beyond Forever Eau de Toilette - Modern Fragrance for Men, 22 July 2016
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
OH has already been using this Eau de toilette but in a smaller sized bottle so this coming now handy as nearly finished the one already had. He must like it for it to be nearly all gone is all I will say. Not usually a DB fan but this Eau de toilette he does like as not too heavy for everyday use at the office. The bottle looks modern, chunky and no waste with it being a spray.
The smell to me reminds me more of old fashioned leather sofas and mixed herbs, not a great long staying fragrance but one that you can smell when applied and that sticks around for a couple of hours. Cheap enough for reapplying when needed and would make a good present for the modern male. Teenage son thinks it smells "cool" and that is something. At last a fragrance that husband likes and no moans about it smelling either of nothing or just chemicals gone off. Good that an older fragrance company is managing to attract a celebrity to endorse their products and one product that has gone down well with the males in our house. Price wise both think it about right.

A lovely mix of stories from Maeve Binchy, once started to read them wanted to go onto the next as all seemed to be so enjoyable and easy reading. Irish warmth all the way through, nice to be able to just pick it up read maybe one or two and not get lost in too many characters or long drawn out stories. Would make an ideal gift for someone that likes to read books by this author some might have already been read though in magazines but even so nice to reread them too. On the look out now for more books by this author for when I have hand operation in a few months and need to rest up with lots of books (got to have at least one perk for the pain).
