4.0 out of 5 stars Bought for my son, 14 Feb. 2016
This review is from: WWE - Summerslam 2005 [DVD] (DVD)
I bought this for my son, as he is a big fan of wrestling. This is my son's review of the matches:

1) Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan - Match only went on for 23 seconds, which is a shame because Benoit is a great wrestler and deserves a lot more time than that.
Match rating: DUD

2) Matt Hardy vs. Edge - Very good promo/storyline for the match, which was extremely brutal. The best part of the match was when Edge speared Matt off the apron. More of a brawl than a wrestling match and would of probably been a 4 star match if it went on longer. Not one of the best matches on the card, but enjoyable nevertheless.
Match rating: **½

3) Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero (Ladder Match) - As usual, Rey displays very great, unique offence and Eddie does a great job in the match too. It gets really intense when they're trading blows on the top of the ladder and both of them used the ladder as a weapon multiple times in the match, which always adds to the greatness of these ladder matches. Rey delivering the 619 to Eddie behind the ladder was simply awesome. I also thought it was really great when Rey had hold of the briefcase but Eddie pulled the ladder away and Rey fell into a sick Spinebuster. Overall, an amazing ladder match and the best match on the card imo. A definite match of the year candidate.
Match rating: ****½

4) Kurt Angle vs. Eugene - Not your traditional Kurt Angle match full of technical wrestling, as he starts this match off by unloading on Eugene with punches, a few clotheslines and stomping all over him. Eugene hit Angle with a Spinebuster in the match and emulated Rock by going for The People's Elbow, but Angle caught him. This match is fun at times with Eugene doing Rock Bottom and Stunner to Angle, as well as using his own submission the Ankle Lock against him. We do see Angle wrestling his more traditional style later in the match, with him hitting Eugene with some nice German Suplexes and using his Angle Slam and Ankle Lock on Eugene. Overall, a pretty good match but not as good as you'd expect from Kurt Angle.
Match rating: ***

5) Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker - The match starts off with Orton trying to avoid Taker, but he later gives up on this and manages to score two moves in a row on Taker, before having his attempt of a third move countered with a Big Boot. Orton comes with a great counter when Taker attempts Old School, with an Armdrag from the top rope. Both men pull out some impressive moves, with the Scoop Powerslam from Randy and the Flying Clothesline from Undertaker. They both try and go for finishers in the last few moments of the match, before Bob Orton comes out and distracts Undertaker, allowing Randy to hit the RKO for the win. Overall, a great match, just wish Orton had got a clean win. Nevertheless, this is one of the best matches of the PPV.
Match rating: ****

6) John Cena vs. Chris Jericho - Promo for this match is very exciting and the crowd is just electric, split 50/50 for both Cena and Jericho. They have a little stare down and then begin the match. It starts off as a brawl, with both men viciously unloading on each other. Jericho begins to turn it into a wrestling match, with moves such as a Spinning Heel Kick and suplexes. Cena later begins to hit Jericho with a few moves of his own, such as a Backdrop and Clothesline. Later on Cena goes for the FU but Jericho comes with a great counter into the walls of Jericho, which Cena reverses with a kick out. Cena then climbs the top rope and hits a fantastic Diving Leg Drop on him. Later, Jericho comes off the ropes at Cena, but he catches Jericho and turns his move into an FU. Overall, a great back-and-forth encounter between these two men. One of my favourite matches from this PPV.
Match rating: ****

7) Batista vs. JBL (No Holds Barred Match) - Again, WWE does a brilliant job with the promo. JBL wants the championship so bad that he starts the match off early by assaulting Batista during his entrance. Batista builds some offence of his own, as he brutally unloads on JBL. JBL clearly becomes enraged by this assault, as he irish whips Batista into the refreshments table. He then attacks Batista with a chair, but Batista retaliates by spearing JBL through the barricade. The fight then enters the ring and they trade punches, before JBL uses a leather belt to choke Batista but Batista counters with a suplex. JBL later hits Batista with a Clothesline from Hell and then attempts to Batista Bomb him on Steel Steps, but Batista counters with a Backdrop. JBL then runs into a Spinebuster, followed up by a Batista bomb. Rather than going for the cover, Batista bombs him on the steps. Overall, a very good fight by these two men.
Match rating: ***½

8) Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels - There was a lot of hype behind this match, being that it was the Legend Hogan vs the Icon HBK. The match begins with them tying up multiple times and Hogan proves that he has the superior power by shoving HBK in all the tie ups. Soon after this, Hogan irish whips HBK into the turnbuckle and he oversells it massively, landing helplessly on the ropes. Hogan then begins to punt HBK, which he oversells even more. From this point onwards, there's not much to say about this match besides the commonly know fact that HBK did a ton of overselling in it. At one point HBK goes for the Top Rope Elbow, but Hogan rolls out of the way. He scores with it later though and also Superkicks Hogan, whom hits his signature Big Boot (which HBK oversold ridicously) and finisher Leg Drop. Overall, a fun match with some good wrestling at times. Overall, a very fun match with some nice wrestling but the most memorable thing is HBK's overselling in the match.
Rating: ***¾

A very good show, with the only bad match being Benoit vs. Jordan because of the short length.

3.0 out of 5 stars Blu-Ray, 2 Jan. 2016
This should be released on Blu-Ray as every series from 1 was made and transmitted in HD and as I've viewed it in that format there is no way I'd consider buying it until there is an HD release.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Warning!, 17 Feb. 2015

Buyers beware that this is a reissue of 'The Smiths Under Review' DVD details of which are here:

I didn't realize this and am now having to return the DVD. Otherwise, apart from the covers, the discs are identical (even down to imagery in that the disc of 'The Queen is Dead' is titled 'Under Review' using exactly the same image). Otherwise a very good film, just get whichever version is cheapest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Missing Extras?, 27 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Just to point out that, like me, you may be a little alarmed when the Blu-ray arrives as on the back it merely details a commentary, plus Cast & Crew and Theatrical Trailer. The 'plus Cast & Crew' makes it sound like part of the commentary but rest assured all the extras from the 2 disc DVD version are present and correct although for some bizarre reason they are not listed on the back of the case. Milt M. R. Ingarfield's review under Most Helpful Customer Reviews gives a misleading impression in this respect as the back cover shown is the U.S. version which fully details the extras. Here's a picture of the U.K. edition for peace of mind:

4.0 out of 5 stars DVD Features, 16 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great DVD and I can certainly not see anything wrong with the picture/sound quality as some have mentioned. I'm not sure, however, why the TV appearances are all from BBC programmes and why certain BBC ones weren't included, for example 'Warriors of the Wasteland' performed on TOTP, 'Rage Hard' on 'Wogan', 'Warriors' on 'Roland Rat The Series' etc. Of the TOTP appearances that are featured 'Two Tribes' from Aug 1984 stands out as Ped in particular is having a whale of a time away from his drum kit standing at the front pretending he's the bass player whilst Mark hams it up on drums. The Christmas 1984 'Power of Love' is a unique mix of the song (with chorus and different instrumentation) that I have certainly never heard before. So the DVD is certainly more than worth the price especially as the TV appearances are really a bonus to the videos, which should be the main reason for purchasing this. The greatest video, of course, is the 'Video Destructo Two Tribes' which in my opinion is the best music video ever made.

By the way, there is an Easter Egg if you hit the ZTT logo on the main menu.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blu-ray quality, 31 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Let me first be clear that the 2 star rating is for the Blu-ray quality of the disc as a whole and not Jimi's mesmerizing performance.

The main concert footage is OK for the age and quality of equipment used at the time but does not gain anything from being in HD and I imagine the DVD looks the same. What's far worse are the extras that ALL claim to be in 1080p or 1080i. There is simply no way that this is the case for any of them. They may have been transferred at that quality but there is no benefit whatsoever and I could not see that ANY were in HD at all. Some were DVD quality at best, others looked like VHS. In short, this is easily the worst looking Blu-ray I've ever bought and leaves me mystified as to why it would be released in the first place if there was nothing to gain by a higher definition.

If you want this then go for the DVD version and don't waste your money on the Blu-ray edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Comparison of Revelation and original Second Sight DVD releases, 9 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Chocky Trilogy [DVD] (DVD)
Picture quality wise, there's no difference really. This review is more on the differences in the extras for those who are thinking of upgrading. Firstly, be warned that the Revelation DVD's question and answer sessions are text only features so disappointingly no talking heads and seeing what the cast look like now. That said, they are quite interesting as are the image galleries which weren't on the original Second Sight DVD's. Where Revelation really falls down though is that on the Second Sight Chocky DVD there's a twenty minute interview with Anthony Read (the writer/adaptor) who this time actually appears in vision. It's a very interesting interview too as it covers all three Chocky series and if you're a Dr Who fan he also mentions the time he was script-editing that show. This is easily the superior extra (hearing from the writer is always more interesting than hearing from the actors, who, after all, are only performing what the writer has written) for this reason I would recommend the Second Sight DVD's over the Revelation ones.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor FLAC support, 16 July 2011
The main reason this was bought was for its ability to play video and FLAC files. The video was fine but although FLAC files can be played they are displayed as `No Title, No Artist, No Album' which is very irritating when the ID Tag is all complete and is certainly, to my mind, not FLAC "support" as claimed. I did send an email to Archos customer support asking about this and if it could be corrected but they did not deign to reply which left me with even less faith in the company. I also took the opportunity to ask Archos about the volume which, even on the lowest possible setting, I sometimes found to be too loud although I guess a pair of in-line volume control headphones could solve this.

After a month of use the player started to develop faults, frequently skipping in the middle of a track, MP3 and otherwise, to the middle of the next track and restarting itself, also restarting in the middle of browsing through files. It has now thankfully been returned for a refund.

Have now purchased a Creative Zen instead which is proving very reliable. Creative ZEN X-Fi Style 8GB MP3 and Video Player with 2.4 inch Screen and FM Radio - Black

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Bass, 28 Feb. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought these after reading many favourable reviews and having bought excellent Panasonic products in the past.
Whilst waiting for these to be delivered I resorted to some old Aiwa cans (XV303's) to listen to around the house. They were bought in the late 90's for around the same price as these Panasonic headphones so I guess I was expecting a similar sound but with the bonus of portability. The sound from the Aiwa's is clear and crisp with all ranges reproduced faithfully. Very disappointed when the Panasonic's arrived however as there is just too much bass which muffles the more subtle sounds and pitches within the music. Needless to say I have now returned the headphones to Amazon for that reason. I don't know if this heavy bass is a fashion thing or is to disguise the low quality of mp3's but it is very hard to find any portable headphones that reproduce CD quality sound. I usually listen to FLAC files so would like some decent portable headphones, without overpowering bass obviously, for up to £40 (hopefully reduced from some higher price!). Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure it would be helpful to other buyers too. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wide coverage of audio and video formats, 6 Feb. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent little player for the price but for me the best feature is being able to playback lossless FLAC audio files, which sound so crisp and clear when compared to lossy MP3. APE and WAV audio formats are supported too, which I think is quite rare, and on the video front it can display / convert AVI / MP4 files rather than some obscure video format that you won't have heard of before. The screen is not top quality if you're going to be watching a lot of videos or viewing photos but is fine for say watching music videos you've downloaded from YouTube, or viewing album art. All in all an outstandingly flexible player for a very low price.
