5.0 out of 5 stars Look beyond the clearly tongue in cheek imagery and enjoy a rare work of unique genius, 15 Aug. 2014

I think people who criticise the mastering/ production/ whatever are kind of missing the point.

To my mind the production is designed to contribute to the overall feel of the album and to give it a seperate identity and feel from the first one.

To my ears this is an album that stands head and shoulders above anything I have heard in the last 2 decades. The songwriting and craft involved is absolutely incredible. No 2 songs sound alike, and yet no other band could have made any of them.

There is no weak track on this album.

The vocals are outstanding.

Look beyond the clearly tongue in cheek imagery and enjoy a rare work of unique genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, 7 Jun. 2014

I absolutely and completely adore this album. The band managed to create a sound that is unique and timeless, and in the late Tony Ogden had a genuine genius for a frontman.

It is at heart, and unashamedly so, a POP album, but has so many influences it's impossible to list them all.

The fact the band never pushed on from this album is a genuine tragedy, and was due to a number of factors. But in my eyes this is probably my favourite album of my lifetime.

I'm not sure if the album has been re mastered or not, but to my ears it does seem to have gained a fuller sound.

The second disc on this expanded version is excellent, particularly the Blackpool Tower suite which contains the best version of The Storm, and the radio sessions.

One star for this album is outrageous! Eric Wagner shows on this album the psychadelic element he brought to Trouble. As far as i am concerned this is genuine, classy stoner rock. The version of Randy Scouse Git has to be heard to be believed. I just hope that Eric continues to record now he has left Trouble (again!). His vocals have been better than ever recently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, 9 Feb. 2008

I have always been a huge DDAHSW fan. Their music is unique as is their live performance. This Solo album by The Vessel is a more fragile, introspective piece of work than the 3 albums of DDAHSW, and is quite beautiful. The single Number 1 (Home Sick Home on the album) is the best thing he has ever recorded in my opinion which is the highest praise I can give. Genius is another standout track but they are all excellent. Mr Georgeson yet again delivers some thought provoking lyrics and must be Britains most under rated song writer.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their finest hour, 25 July 2007
This review is from: When In Rome, Kill Me (Audio CD)
I was abused left right and centre for my love of Cud when i was at school! This is by far and away their finest moment, and if they had recorded it now it would have seen them have massive success what with Indie being so mainstream now and the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs being so (inexplicably) popular. Cud were always a great live act and this album is perhaps the only time they truly matched the energy of their live performances in the studio.

The only drawback is that my Imaginary record originals will have crashed in value as a result of this re-issue!

5.0 out of 5 stars As a good as anything they've done, 4 July 2007

I ordered this album back in March and what a wait its been! Release dates came and went and my sense of anticipation rose and rose. Saw them live at the Scala at the end of May which was awesomely good and had a taster of this new material in 'Mindbender'.

Well now here it is and my God it was worth the wait. I maybe a bit biased I guess as Trouble are my all time favourite metal band. I first saw them in 1990 at the Marquee as a 17 year old when they were on Def American, and I have caught them whenever they have infrequently visited London since. This album is most similar to their Def American era and is a more rounded piece of work than 'Plastic Green Head' their last album which was released well over a decade ago. The production is excellent and Bruce and Rick's guitars sound as massive as ever. They surely are the finest guitar duo recording today, and possibly ever, with a unique sound. Eric Wagner's vocals have never sounded better. Oly and Chuck are so tight and the band sound like they had a real ball laying down this album, amazing considering how long thay have been recording and that they have had a lengthy break. I can't single out any particular tracks as they are consistently excellent.

It is well worth tracking down all 7 albums if you enjoy this one, none of them will dissapoint. Also highly recommended are some other projects by the band members. Bruce Franklin and Oly recorded an awesome album called Supershine with Doug Pinnick from Kings' X, Rick Wartell has a band called Wet Animal who have an album out, and Eric Wagner recorded an album with his band Lid which is well worth getting. All of these are available on amazon for a few pounds and are hidden treasures.

I will let you seek out Bruce Franklins other work, which includes an Industrial project no less.

Fantastic, amazing and criminally overlooked. In another universe Bruce Franklin would be worshipped for his services to the flying v.
