Crossfire-An Australian Reconnaissance In Vietnam: The Australian Reconnaissance Unit in Vietnam
Crossfire-An Australian Reconnaissance In Vietnam: The Australian Reconnaissance Unit in Vietnam
Price: £1.79

4.0 out of 5 stars The Vietcong feared the Aussies more than most and this gives us an insight why!, 6 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An alternative view of the war in Vietnam from the Aussie perspective which is quite rare in itself.A well written and interesting book that contrasts time in the field with reflections many years later in Australia and the long term impact such traumas had on some, but not all, former vets. I read in another book that the Vietcong were more wary (afraid!) of the Aussies and you get a feel for this in this book! For those interested in this war it is an easy read and well worth the money but also makes one think about the long term impact of war on former vets such as these.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its worth the money and a decent read about an excellent sniper but not perhaps written as one might, 27 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sniper Ace (Kindle Edition)
A fascinating life story but not that well written.Essentially the first part is a numerical list of targets that Sutkus acquired and the recognition that went with it.The second half focuses on his voluntary exile to Siberia with his partner where he then lives in appallingly hard conditions for 20+ years before returning to Lithuania and then Germany. Its worth the money and a decent read about an excellent sniper but not perhaps written as one might expect

Hitler's Last Witness: The Memoirs of Hitler's Bodyguard
Hitler's Last Witness: The Memoirs of Hitler's Bodyguard
Price: £4.31

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insight into the daily life of the inner circle of Hitler, 27 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a fascinating book highlighting the unique experiences of a down to earth soldier who gets attached to the bodyguard for Hitler from 1940 until the end days in April/May 1945. Characterised in the German film the Downfall Misch gives an interesting account of every day life in the inner circles of the Hitler regime and also some of the key personalities. One of the few in the Fuhrer bunker to witness the death of Hitler and the implications of this n his subsequent imprisonment in the USSR

5.0 out of 5 stars A great insight into U Boat warfare in WW2, 27 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A fascinating read about the career of a down to earth German submariner who became in turn a highly decorated U Boat Ace. Its refreshing as it is quite personal and shows the numerous times when Teddy says things that he should not and how this impacts on his career and relationships with more formal / rigid naval types.Descriptions of combat very revealing highlighting the courage of these submariners in really quite awful conditions where losses were amongst the highest in WW2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good not great, 27 Jan. 2016

This review is from: Inspector Nardone [DVD] (DVD)
First few episodes are quite slow and average but the subsequent episodes are better and more interesting .So worth persevering with.Slightly bizarre as it appears to be a Serbian production and hence may of the actors are not Italian but the lead ones are.Sub titles are good as the Italian ,for me, was sometimes hard to follow.

Bosnia: A Short History
Bosnia: A Short History
by Noel Malcolm
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful background on a troubled country, 4 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an interesting book on a very troubled country with a difficult past and difficult present. I bought it before a trip to Bosnia and it provided a meaningful background to this ,in my opinion, sad and war scarred country. The problems are deep and may hundreds of years in the making. This book gives you a good insight to why it is like it is.

For fans of Italian drama this WW2 Italian Police drama is interesting, enjoyable and good value for money. The non political Inspector De Luca finds himself swept along by his predominantly Fascist colleagues as he struggles to just be a Policeman as Italy descends into civil war in the late 1943-45 period..Some good story lines
