4.0 out of 5 stars The Remastering, 7 July 2016
This review is from: Dark Horse (Audio CD)
I'm going to go out on a limb here... :)
And just to clarify; my comments are not about the music on Dark Horse, but rather my concern about the remastering of that album (But to be fair to the actual album, my 4-star rating does relate to the music, and not to the remastering issue)
I was very disappointed by the remastering of the 2014 re-release of Dark Horse. IMO, the sound is clearer (especially bass and drums) on the original 1991 CD release. So I will be sticking with that version.
The best way I can think to describe my concern is that the 1991 version sounds like I am listening with a graphic equaliser switched on, and the 2014 version sounds like it is switched off. It just seems to sound less vibrant when compared side-by-side with the earlier CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars DVD Buyers PLEASE READ, 27 May 2015
People considering buying the DVD version of this movie PLEASE READ !!
I like this 1984 movie, and there are many other reviewers who have discussed it's merits.
However, my review is not about the movie. Instead, it is specifically about the DVD version, and things you might like to be aware of...
This DVD version is manufactured from MGM using DVD-R technology. And as such, it appears to essentially be a videotape cassette copy that has been transferred to DVD.
The picture quality is only slightly better than you would get from a good condition videotape cassette playing on a modern HD Television. There is no image pixelation, however it is quite grainy (possibly caused by an attempt to sharpen the image).
The sound quality is 2-channel stereo, equivalent to the videotape cassette.
And although it is presented in Widescreen 1.85:1, unfortunately that is merely a crop of a 1.33:1 copy (no doubt from a videotape cassette). Thus, the original imagery is missing from the top and bottom of the screen. This is what disappointed me the most !!
You decide...
*Note: I base my comments on having bought this DVD, and then compared it to my VHS copy.

"Klip" (aka "Clip") probably will not appeal to a wide-ranging audience, and there are several potential reasons for that...
It is made in a documentary style, and may be considered somewhat boring because it essentially just depicts a few weeks in the life of a Serbian teenage girl. Also, it is in Serbian language with English subtitles; and many people don't enjoy having to 'read' movies. Plus, it may offend some viewers with it's hard-hitting depictions of teenage drinking, drug use, and sexual promiscuity.
However, beyond those potential limitations, "Klip" is actually a competently made and well acted movie. And the kind of movie which is capable of leaving the viewer pondering what they have seen, long after the end credits have finished rolling.

"Klip" gives us a brief glimpse into the life of Jasna. She is a 14-year-old girl, living in a decayed Serbia. She has a dysfunctional relationship with her family; she seems to have contempt for her mother, and essentially ignores her father and younger sister. Jasna also enjoys partying, drinking and drug taking far too much. And in her attempts to secure the affections of a boyfriend, she essentially allows herself to be used and abused by him.

Isidora Simijonovic gives an inspired performance as Jasna; realistically conveying teen angst, anger, sadness, bewilderment, excitement, and desperation. (I also was surprised by how much I thought Isidora resembles the American actress Emma Roberts).
First-time writer and director Maja Milos has successfully made "Klip" a low-key but thought-provoking movie. And I believe this movie is a commendable starting point for potential international career's for both it's Writer/Director and Lead Actress.

Quite simply: A very good movie, which is likely to only be appreciated by those viewers who can comprehend and accept what it is... rather than what they mistakenly think it should be.

Both the title and the description written on the cover packaging of this DVD, give the impression it is a 'Live In Japan' concert which also includes bonus interview footage. However, it is essentially the complete opposite to that, as it is really a documentary which has portions of live concert footage inserted amongst the interviews etc.
As it stands, this DVD is a terrific documentary about Cheap Trick, filled with informative and humorous interviews from the four band members, plus many entertaining behind-the-scenes sequences.
But regrettably, the included live concert music is essentially ruined because we never get to hear a complete uninterrupted song, due to the interviews being dubbed in over those performances. Obviously someone thought this style of editing was a good idea, but basically it is just plain annoying, as it is like trying to listen to Cheap Trick's Greatest Hits while someone is sitting beside you who won't stop talking!!
Therefore, as a live concert DVD this essentially fails to satisfy. Which is a true shame, because this DVD could have come very close to being an ultimate Cheap Trick experience, if only the documentary didn't ruin the concert...

3.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Action, 11 Mar. 2014
An almost continuous car chase through the streets of Sofia, Bulgaria
A Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake
The on-going destruction of the above car
Many, many police cars and other vehicles spectacularly detroyed
A reliance on good old-fashioned stuntwork rather than CGI effects
Ethan Hawke with a steely glaze and a foot on either side of the law
Selena Gomez as a hoodie wearing punkette with a foul mouth and combat boots

If any of the above sounds appealing to you, then this will likely be the movie for you!
But don't expect a logical plot or a great script and acting. This is simply a good example of a no-brainer car chase movie, which also features excellent stuntwork. And obviously the film-makers have enjoyed the likes of "Bullit", "The Driver", and both versions of "Gone In 60 Seconds"
So, simply switch your brain off and enjoy the spectacular thrill-ride!!

Shame about this movie... it could have been quite good, but it isn't.

For a low budget movie, "You Can't Kill Stephen King" does have reasonable production values, along with what could best be described as a good 'idea' for a movie.
But unfortunately, that good idea is used up in the first few minutes of this movie, and nothing worthwhile follows on from it; as it quickly becomes obvious that the movie isn't going to maintain the spoof level it started with, and neither is it going to progress onto being a reasonable horror movie.
Apart from the characters believing that "Stephen King lives somewhere around here", it certainly never delivers any easily identifiable homages to the author, his books, or his movies. And don't be fooled into thinking you are going to see more of the King-related images depicted on the DVD cover artwork !
And dare I say ?... even the three reasonably attractive lead actresses couldn't stop me from quickly becoming very bored with this movie !!

The Ultimate Collection
The Ultimate Collection

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic songs at a good price, 18 July 2013
This review is from: The Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
I find it quite surprising that an earlier review of "The Ultimate Collection" 4-CD Set is currently deemed to be this sites 'Most Helpful Customer Review'... Because, IMHO that review is almost entirely inaccurate !
(I refer to the review titled 'Budget edition' dated 27 December 2011)
And because of that potentially misleading review, I have written the following.

In response to that earlier review:
I strongly suspect that the tracks on this set have been digitally remastered, based on both their clarity and the quality of the bass sound. Additionally, a comparison of the shared tracks on "All-Time Greatest Hits" (which has been digitally remastered) reveals they are identical in quality. As for 'the quality of sound being inferior to other RCA compilations'; it's true, they do not sound quite as good as the versions contained on the CD's "Elv1s 30 #1 Hits" and "Elvis 2nd To None". However, those 2 releases were not only digitally remastered, they were also remixed from the original recordings; which gave them an even greater clarity ("Burning Love" being one of the best examples). But in this case, "The Ultimate Collection" contains the original mixes of the songs, so they sound exactly like they always have.
And, as for the comment: 'several tracks on CD 4 are live re-recordings'... Of the 22 tracks on CD4, just four of them are live recordings; "The Wonder Of You" / "An American Trilogy" / "I Just Can't Help Believing" / "Polk Salad Annie". And as the only recordings Elvis ever made of those particular four songs was LIVE IN CONCERT, I hope that earlier reviewer is now devoting his or her time to locating Elvis performing 'non-live re-recordings' of them !

As for my review of this set:
This is an excellent 88-track collection, containing the majority of Elvis Presley's biggest hits and most well-known songs. And although it does not state on the packaging that these tracks have been digitally remastered, the sound quality indicates it is very likely that they have been. The accompanying 24-page full-color booklet contains an extensive Elvis biography plus photographs. And my only gripe about this set would be, there is approximately 80 minutes of free space remaining across the 4 discs; which means there could easily have been many more songs included (25-30?). Or alternatively, these 88 tracks could have been contained on just a 3-CD set.
