5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant from concept to action., 26 Sept. 2005
This review is from: Equilibrium [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
For a film to reach five stars, I believe it should have atmosphere, a good plot and appeal to almost every emotion in my body. I believe this is one of those films.
From a distant it looks like a 1984 or Matrix rip-off, and no doubt it might have been influenced by such masterpieces, but it is an exceptional film in it's own right.
The film puts forward the idea of a world where emotions and indirectly creativity are illegal and people are forced to take a drug to suppress emotions. In this way it is Sci-fi, but along the way the protagonist John Preston, played beautifully by Christian Bale, falls in love, which breaks all boundries bringing in forbidden romance.
Between the emotional sequence between John and his mentor, and the immense action scene at the end, this film finds the beauty in a dystopian empire that I wouldn't have thought possible.
It is a must see for any fan of film, Sci-fi, Romance, Action or Christian Bale enthusiasts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Excellent!, 11 Feb. 2005
This review is from: Leon [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
I have yet to find a Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) film that can be awarded less than 5 stars! Leon is, of course, no exception.
When a young Mathilda(Portman) is forced to flee from home, she reaches out to Leon(Reno), her neighbour. Finding out he is a ruthless hitman she herself soon wishes to follow in his steps, so she can act out revenge on the corrupt cop, Stansfield(Oldman).
This is an action packed film with an emotional storyline, and possibly one of the greatest endings in film history.
With Stunning acting by Jean Reno as Leon, Gary Oldman as the corrupt Agent, and a fabulous debut by Natalie Portman as Mathilda. This is a must see, if not a must buy!
