5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 4 Nov. 2010
In all honestly I have disliked literally everything they have done up 'til this albums release but this is a stunning leap in creativity. Hypnotic and addictive this album has been on constant rotation in my car for the last two years. Of course, having Brian Eno in tow certainly helps but I can't think of a bad thing to say about it and if they continue on this trajectory then true greatness awaits..

1.0 out of 5 stars Isn't prison enough punishment for a crime you didn't commit ?, 4 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Queen Is Dead (Audio CD)
"Get busy living or get busy dying.." (Andy Dufresne upon realising that 'The Queen is Dead' was the only record in the Shawshank prison music library).

5.0 out of 5 stars Wall to wall very good.., 4 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Wall (Audio CD)
The Wall is by far my favourite Floyd album. I can't really add anything to what has been written about it in even in these pages but suffice to say it is intense, imaginative, hypnotic and completely gripping from start to finish. A real departure for them (he he). Great songs are great songs and while concept album material often suffers from being played out of context, 'Comfortably Numb','Young Lust','Another Brick' and 'The Trial' are all excellent songs in their own right (The last evoking 'Oliver' brilliantly). Much better than that other one with the Triangle rainbow thingy on the front.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rhythm of Life indeed..., 4 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Circle Of One (Audio CD)
Oleta has a voice to love and a voice that loves you back. Clearly gospel inspired, her vocal style touches you with its warmth, its melody and its tone. Famously this album contains her hit version of Brenda Russels 'Get Here' but there is so much more here to enjoy. 'Rhythm of Life' is a chilled out soul classic. 'You've got to give room' is the kind of torch ballad which Billie Holiday would have died for and 'I've got a right' is glossy urgent Jazz at it's best. Oleta is no slouch as a songwriter either - the last two songs mentioned here were written by her.
I wish she and other artists still made albums like this. If you don't own it yet..WHY NOT !!??

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, you're gonna have a wing-ding !, 4 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Nightfly (Audio CD)
I'm gonna push the boat out and say that this is my favourite album ever. Wonderful thematic songs which fuse slinky Jazz with Pop sensibility and evoke an atmosphere so vivid and just plain cool. Excellent musicianship throughout. Somehow the occasionally un-focused muse that inspired Steely Dan is completely focused here and on the money. The title track is probably the pick of the album telling the story of lonely late night DJ. Elsewhere you can do nothing but admire a writer who manages to put the line; "won't you pour me a Cuban Breeze, Gretchen" into a song.
A wonderful album. Buy it, blag it, burn it, whatever.

2.0 out of 5 stars Your hip cd collection guide. Pt.2, 29 Oct. 2010
This album is is ideal for those who want a good record collection that they will never listen to.

If you want to be hip and be admired these are the albums you should have in your collection;

Dark side of the moon (of course!)
Beatles White Album
Meat is murder - The Smiths
An album by James Brown (doesn't matter which)
Blood on the tracks
Kid A - Radiohead
An Album by Van Morrison (anything as long as it doesn't include Moondance or Brown eyed girl)
A Tom Waits Bootleg (not an official release)
Low - David Bowie
The XX album (gotta be down with the kids - insist that it's pure simplicity is it's charm)

That should just about do it. Might be an idea to have a quick listen through just to familiarise yourself with some of the song titles.

Hope this helps xx!
