5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, brutal crime drama, 29 Jun. 2016
This review is from: Gomorrah - Season 2 [DVD] (DVD)
The world this portrays is brutal, anyone who stands in their way is simply killed as if killing is second nature. The violence is not glamorous but instead feels cold and raw. The soundtrack is very well done and puts you right alongside the characters. The last time I saw something this gritty was The Shield, but there is simply nothing like this in the US right now. Gomorrah is a unique crime drama and the second series is every bit as good as the first. Every episode is tense and very well written. The characters may drive flash cars and have cash to throw around but at the same time the show leaves you thinking there's no way you could live in that world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, 21 Dec. 2015

I've owned this replacement head for about 2 months now. Some of the negative reviews on here are over exaggerated. For everyday shaving this is no worse than the original shaver head and is equal to the task. For shaving 4 days beard growth the shaver head did pull some hairs at first but not to the point that it caused any pain or discomfort. However, this issue settles down as the unit is worn in and becomes very comfortable with continued use. This is why I wrote the review after using it for a couple of months so I could see if shaving comfort improves, which it does. Some reviewers have made out that the blades pull long hairs like an eyebrow tweezer which is a complete over exaggeration.

I find the shaver head really easy to clean and actually prefer this method to the old version. All you do is pull off the foil head, tip the shaver to one side and the collection of hairs easily fall out. Next, push the foil head back onto the shaver; it clips back on with very little effort. The clips are well made and the process is quick, clean and painless. The other benefit is you don’t have to run water on your blades but rather just give them a little shake and the hairs easily fall out.

Because of the poor reviews I was initially put off and wasted time trying to find the old shaver head. For this reason I have written this review so others aren’t put off like I was and start looking at other shavers etc. For day-to-day shaving this does the job perfectly well. I recommend you use it for day to day shaving for the first month and give it chance to wear in then use it to shave beard growth.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Plastic Turntable, 29 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have bought 2 of these turntables. I thought by spending £18 for one compared to £6 on eBay that it would turn properly. The first turntable worked, as it should. However, the 2nd turntable struggled to turn. When I looked inside all the grease used to lubricate the ball bearings was splattered inside the case when it should have been on the tracks, which the ball bearings run along. You cannot open the turntable as it has no screws and appears to be held together by molded plastic, which would probably snap if you applied any force. I sprayed some WD40 onto the tracks inside thinking this would help the ball bearings run smoother. I then put a computer monitor on top of the turntable and turned it by holding the monitor at each side. The monitor just slides by itself while the turntable underneath hardly moves at all.
So basically, I could have just cut out a piece of cardboard, stuck it underneath the monitor base and turned the monitor, which would have turned on the cardboard rather than scraping the surface of my expensive desk. This would have been just as effective as the turntable that cost me £18. I’m a day trader and I’m always turning my monitor screens around depending on were I’m sat in my office. I should just be able the hold the monitor, turn it gently and the turntable should move with it. So a turntable that can’t turn properly is hardly fit for purpose.

Unfortunately, as I didn't unpack the turntable until 5 weeks after buying it the fault was reported outside of Amazons A-Z buyer/seller policy. The seller offered to replace the item but as the turntable would have to be returned to their offices in Luxembourg the postage costs were almost the same as a new turntable. I bought my turntable from Espace-Disque. Their Amazon listing says the turntable is dispatched from the UK. However, if your turntable is faulty it has to be returned to their offices in Luxembourg, hence the high postage costs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Water, 4 Jun. 2014

If you want distilled water this is a great purchase.

There are a few negatives but these apply to all the distillers in general.

1. The distiller runs on 750 watts which means it generates a lot of heat. The unit has a fan at the top to expel the heat from the unit. Basically, when the distiller is running it will heat up a room very quickly like a fan heater (sounds like one to) and do so for about 4 hours. I suppose this is great for a kitchen as it's extra heating in the winter.

2. The distiller comes with a glass jug. The jug itself is heavy and it's almost impossible to carry it by the handle when full with water. Therefore, I recommend the plastic jug which costs less money, it's more sturdy and a lot lighter to carry. Your distilled water isn't going to become contaminated just because it drips into a plastic jug. However, if your glass jug is just going to sit in one place all the time then it should be fine, as I have to carry mine to another room the weight it noticeable.

3. Don't use the cleaning salts that come with the distiller. Instead, put a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda in the bottom of the machine and leave for a few hours before cleaning. Cleaning the unit will be much easier, just wipe the inside with a cloth or scouring pad and it will be like new again.

These negatives would apply to all the distillers I've seen in this price range.

The ViaFosa unit is the best value I've found overall and produces 3.7 litres of distilled water in under 4 hours which is one of the quickest.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last an 18, 12 Dec. 2012
This review is from: Killing Them Softly [DVD] (DVD)
Killing Them Softly is a throw back to the way gangster films where made back in the days of Goodfellas and Casino. Of course its not quite in the same league as those films but if your looking to go back to the early 90's style when gangster films where big business then this shouldn't be missed. The story and plot are very simple but the quality is in the detail and the noir concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Police Drama, 28 May 2012

This review is from: Braquo - Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
There have been comparisons to The Shield which I absolutely loved, but I have to say the cast and acting in the Shield is on another level to Braquo. Still, each episode is fast paced with plenty of action and tension to get your teeth into, but I just don't see any real longevity with this series. After another series of leather jackets, powerful cars and everyone looking like they haven't shaved or been to bed for 3 days the episodes will start to wear thin. The characters themselves are not that likeable, the acting is limited and we don't see much of the different sides of the main cast, if they indeed have them. This is where Braquo falls down and in truth the theme is not original, if it is being compared to something else. I've grown bored of watching what US television has to offer lately, what with budgets being slashed in the recession there's not alot to get your teeth into. The French are providing some decent police drama right now along with their excellent exploits into horror over recent years. Braquo is well worth viewing and I will be buying the second series if reviews are good.

I can count on one hand the number of films that have left me feeling breathless at the end, The Lives of Others is certainly one of those films. I had to ask myself before viewing, what could be so interesting about watching a film about one man spying on another, it all sounded a little dull by todays standards. Maybe it's because of the modern diet of film and television which seems more caught up in presentation rather than production value. The Lives of Others will surprise you. It will remind you what beautiful film making is all about. I don't recommend looking up serious reviews, you will find no satisfaction in reading about the plot or the awards that have been received. The real surprise is in the film itself, it's like watching a good play in the theatre, it reaches out and grabs you, the beauty of human art can be mesmerizing and the Lives of Others is just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Disciplined Read, 11 April 2012
Most of the people who will read this book will simply pay it lip service before moving onto their next book, all the while looking for the 'secret' to successful trading. You only need a few books to be successful in trading, I can't say what they are because each will be as personal to the next. The real secret to trading is 'mastering yourself,' if you can't do this then you will never make a success of trading.

As long as you move from book to book you will remain in a perpetual state of motion, it is only when you stop do you begin to learn. Think of a person travelling through the City trying to get to work, it is only when they arrive at their destination do they start to become industrial, that is what their employer is paying them for. Now relate that idea to yourself and your life. You should now begin to see your 'times of industry' and the times that brought you least gain.

We can relate this further. Imagine taking the wrong train or bus to work, how will this affect your ability to be on time? Now separate each book that you have read on trading, which of those have helped your learning and those that have not. The books that have helped are the those that help you to arrive on time and those which made you late are the ones that provided least help. These are some of the exercises you can do to understand yourself, it is just the beginning of your journey.

Trading requires you to 'master yourself' due to the very nature of the work involved, this aspect should never be ignored. Good luck.
