5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE RETURN TO FORM!, 21 Aug. 2015
Leftfield has been MIA for 16 years. I wasn't a big fan of the 'Rhythm & Stealth' sound, but more of the 'Leftism' sound, which was light years ahead of everything in the field.

In 2015, we move left to the field now, and kick up some serious electronic stuff with this album. Every track is stunning, and layer after layer of electronic music. This is what the new Chemical Brothers album 'Born in the Echoes' should have been.

Great return to form. They are legends, and they prove it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!! Great Modern-day Trance Mix by Bobina, 14 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: In Trance We Trust 017 (Audio CD)
This is a spectacular mix by Bobina. The first 4 tracks of this brilliant mix are worth buying the CD for. The set kicks off with the awesome 'Jeziel Quintela, Jquintel & Manufactured Superstars Remix' of 'Reverie' by First State, which is a synth-monster. As if the madness of the first track wasn't enough, Bobina follows it up with the magical 'Alexander Popov Remix' of 'Raging' by Cosmic Gate. 'August Aromas' is another great melodic tune, and then, you're hit with 'Tempus' by Saint X. At first I didn't think much of this track, but a couple of listens and I was blown away. 'Tempus' truly is a whirlwind of synths, beats and melody.

The rest of the mix falls right in place, with the highlights being 'Luminate' by Jason Van Wyk, 'You Belong to Me' by Bobina, 'Spinning Around (Tech Edit)' by Mark Pledger & the epic finale 'Whatever Happens' by Carl B.

Whenever in doubt of the purity of the genre, buy any one of the 'In Trance We Trust' legendary mixes, by Daniel Wanrooy, or Carl B, or Virtual Vault, or Observer & Heatcliff, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the non-commercial rocking trance that is being produced in the European nations.

This is an outstanding mix, and not to be missed. Respect to Bobina, and all the other producers associated with the label for churning out the better stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE MUSIC, SOLID PRODUCTIONS, 9 July 2011
This review is from: Wide Awake (Audio CD)
'Wide Awake' is Richard Durand's second studio album, and is a mighty successor to 'Always the Sun', his debut, which was released on Magik Muzik, nearly 2 years ago.

This album is a outstanding addition to his studio work.

Every track produced by Richard Durand is unique, which is incredible, and sets him apart, because no other artist of the genre at the moment is able to deliver such variety. Throughout his DJ & production career, he has adopted a harder, edgier style, and the range he provides in this darker, murkier style is spectacular. No one seems to experiment or play around with trance music as well as he does.

Each individual track on the album is a floor-filler, and is enjoyable. It contains vocals, big drops, breakdowns, great progressions, & massive instrumentals.

Track 1: 'Burning Piano', Intro

Track 2: 'Clear Blue Sky'

Solid opener. Dark, Very Durand, yet not something which we haven't heard before from him. An incredibly deep tune nonetheless. 8/10

Track 3: 'Wide Awake' feat. Ellie Lawson

The ride begins. Great stuff, the vocals blend perfectly with the track. Was released a few months ago as a single, and is a solid vocal trance track. 10/10

Track 4: 'Airwell'

Has recently been featured on Sied Van Riel's compilation 'Rielism'. Good layered synths, good build-up and melody and driving beats. 8/10

Track 5: 'Explode' feat. Kash

I'd heard 'N.Y.C.', 'Night & Day', 'Wide Awake' from the album which were released as singles earlier, but I hadn't heard this one. The vocals really help the track build-up in intensity and the melody is relentless. Might I also add that the George Acosta Remix is a monster. This really is peak-time dancefloor material. 10/10

Track 7: 'Everything from Me (Richard Durand Remix)' by Andain

Hypnotic vocals by Mavie Marcos (as always), and a spectacular rework by Richard Durand. 10/10

Track 8: 'Dryland'

Very deep, good rhythm, great harmonic tune. A well orchestrated track overall. 8/10

Track 9: 'Night & Day' Feat. Christian Burns

Christian Burns has provided his vocals for several trance productions, most noticeably 'In The Dark' by DJ Tiesto & 'The Power of You' By Allure. But this track is spectacular. Richard Durand's finest work, and a haunting, memorable vocal trance classic. 10/10

Track 10: 'Robotic'

A good tech-tune. Of Course you would expect Richard Durand to do justice to a track aptly titled 'Robotic' with his hard, edgy style, but on the down-side, nothing extraordinarily appealing here. An exceptionally well programmed & executed tune though, would not go easy on your speakers. 8/10

Track 11: 'N.Y.C.' Feat. JES

Great track, industrial, minimalist sounds, supreme vocals by JES on this one. An epic vocal tune. 10/10

Track 12: 'Tiger's Apology'

There is no other tune I enjoy listening to more with the volume turned up than this one. Loud, relentless, with a nice breakdown and great transition through the end. 10/10, just for the massive beats.

Track 16: 'Incredible Music'

I've been listening to this album for a few days now in my car, & the most I have heard on the album is this track. Truly, Incredible. It will rip your speakers apart. The track kicks off with a crazy vocal 'Incredible Music' sample, and what follows is strong layered bass and ripping beats, leading to another insane breakdown. Really fun stuff. 5 minutes just aren't enough. 10/10

Track 17: 'Disturbed'

Wow! What a finale! If you thought 'Silver Key' was a stomper, then hear this one pound through your speakers. Truly Richard Durand! Tracks like these is what I truly admire him for! Again, 4 minutes don't do justice to the track. 10/10.

I found tracks 'Frozen', 'Real Deal', 'Open Range' and 'Crystal' (6, 13,14 & 15) all similar sounding and nothing really exceptional on those tunes. A good listen still, they complete the album.

I just hope 'Incredible Music' and 'Disturbed' are released as full-length singles soon. Would love to listen to 8 minutes of each. Both are outstanding!

The entire album is a 9/10. It seems he has been working on the album for over a couple of years now, with several singles released already, a lot of work has gone into these featured 17 productions. Of all the albums and compilations available currently, it is astounding that one man can create such high quality productions! My full respect goes out to this man. His music unarguably is making a very strong impact.

This is one great Trance/Dance Studio Album, and one you should not hesitate to purchase. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Czars of Downtempo & Lounge Music, 14 Oct. 2010
This review is from: It Takes A Thief (Audio CD)
The Thievary Corporation is undoubtedly the biggest name in the Lounge genre. They're in a league of their own in downtempo music, & started a new wave of electronic lounge music in the late 90s with their unique sounds & productions, with releases such as DJ Kicks, The Mirror Conspiracy, Richest Man in Babylon, Cosmic Game & Radio Retaliation.

'It Takes A Thief' is the best of The Thievary Corporation. It strings together their biggest, most successful career-defining productions, with 16 hand-picked songs, all featured on one compilation. Highlights include massive hits, such as 'Warning Shots', 'Sweet Tides', 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram', 'Until The Morning', 'Sound The Alarm' & 'Lebanese Blonde'.

If you're new to their sound & admire good lounge music, you'll love every bit of this album. Over the years, they've produced some amazing tracks, and most of them are on this one.

Grab your copy. For this price, you cannot go wrong, with such fabulously produced, quality lounge music in one CD. A Must Buy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, Lush, Sexy.. The Essential 2009 Winter Dance Album, 21 Dec. 2009
The back side of the album cover has a formal introduction by Erick Morillo, stating 'Now that the Winters have arrived, & Ibiza is behind us, it's time to bring on some SWEDISH HEAT' which laconically summarizes the entire 150 minute epic house journey in one statement. This mix is hot. Reminds me of the darker mixes by Saeed & Palash, & Peace Division, the kind of quality mixes which have somewhat vanished and morphed into the MOS style pop-dance-vocal music culture, which is being incorporated in all house music mixes these days. If you're looking for that kind, you won't be disappointed. You'll be surprised and delighted, to find a deeper, more hard-edged sound on this album, which is the real thing. The kind of sound which creates dance floor eruptions.

I'm not confusing trance with house here. Trance as a genre, is very much alive, with artists like Above & Beyond, Activa, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Solarstone, Ferry Corsten and the likes, but house? I think only artists and DJs like Erick Morillo, Carl Cox, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso are keeping it alive. This is an essential purchase. Downright dark and dirty at times, with tracks like Thrill you, Bang the Drum, El Baile Aleman, Bitchslap on Disc 1, to Drop, La Tromba, On the Run, Do You Want it? & Meich on Disc 2. This is a strong mix & I would definitely recommend it. An Essential 2009 Winter House Album by Steve Angello.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sultan of House!, 16 Sept. 2009
This review is from: Nu Breed - Sultan (Audio CD)
Don't let the strange hair-do overlook this man's mixing genius. Not only is he a fabulous producer, but with Nubreed008, Sultan has proven that he is undoubtedly an immaculately refined DJ maestro.

Cd1 kicks off with the soothing lounge & disco tempo of Ninna Nanna & Ike's remix of changes. Sublime music at the very beginning, very assuring of the freshness the mix has to offer. For me, actually, the mix picks up at track 8, The 10th anniversary of the vocally haunting, atmospheric, Rumblefish. Los Penal, is the peak hour track you would want to skip to over and over again, with ethnic tamborine percussions, and a powerful driving bassline. Followed by Road to Ramallah, another genius track by Sultan and Ned Shephard.

The highlight, though, the crowd pleaser, is definitely the moments guitarapella on Sansula's Jonas Koop Dubfreak version. What a mash up. Exhilarating. And then train to tehran and the awesome Crimson Sun. I still can't find the full length version, but Dirty Vegas is just fabulous. Disc1 - 4.5/5 stars

Cd2's beginning is memorable. That's what I like about Sultan. The build-Ups on both the CDs are just so strong, and exciting. When time stands still & Mic Newman's mix of Town of Sorrow, are just brilliant. From La Nuit on, there's a little slag. The music is great, but it's more techy, until Private House, Closed eyes, and Neverland kick in. But he saves the best for the last. Chromatic, by Ned Shephard, and the 123 CAT accapella, is just OUTSTANDING, seamlessly mixing into his re-edit of break my world. There are a few really really cool tracks. I would give Cd2 - 4/5 stars

Overall, a fantastic compilation, in terms of freshness and quality!! Never doubt Sultan's work, the quality of his productions and his compilations, by house music standards, are and always have been exceptional. Highly recommended. NuBreed has been successfully revived! Thank you DJ Sultan..
