5.0 out of 5 stars One of Sydney's best kept secrets., 10 July 2016
This review is from: Upwey (MP3 Download)
Bill Hunt. Read the name and it conjures up a guy next door. A quiet, unassuming name, one that will be familiar to none but those privileged enough to have heard his songs around the live venues of Sydney, Australia or to have seen any of the rare video footage that dares to surface online from time to time.

From the first bars of the opening track, 'Everything is Going to Change' it's clear, however, that there is nothing average about Bill Hunt. This is no everyday singer -songwriter peddling words just because. ..well, just because he can.

The lyrics are crafted from a path rich with life's experiences, from nuggets of conversation overhead in bars and homes of strangers and friends alike; the music from 10 years of playing live without the aid of a safety net

The voice comes through with a refreshingly clear sense of purpose, the words demanding to be heard. The musical accompaniment of Alex Burkoy's violin and Kris Schubert's piano (among others) add a layer to songs such as the delicious stand-out track, 'Sea of Love ' that earlier, sparser versions played out at The Bunker's Songwriter's Sessions or in Bill's very own recording studio, 'The Shed', scarcely suggested any shortcomings needing embellishment.

I could say that the sound sits somewhere between Bluegrass Americana, a dusty Australian Outback and a well-read book dispensing wisdom...I could, but that would do the music here a disservice. A better way to measure the songs on 'Upwey' would be to buy the record for yourself and allow a little of its music into your life.

Bill Hunt. A name unfamiliar to most. On the evidence here, though, not for much longer, I suspect.

Arrived just in time for the Manchester concert and has rarely left my cd deck ever since. The lyrics are of the usual high standard I've come to expect from Guy Garvey over the years.

Many an hour has been spent listening to this collection of new songs that hold their own against previous efforts. In the words of Salford's current finest, 'What a perfect waste of time'

I bought this as a staple ingredient for a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe. Its mildly nutty aroma gives the grilled tomatoes in this particular grilled sea bass/chermoulade and salsa recipe an exceptional flavour.

Gives a great finishing touch. I'll be using it when grilling other vegetables and in salad dressings too.

As the title suggests, it took me a while for the tunes to sink in and truly get under my skin. After a few listens in the car, however, that changed. I bought it in anticipation of seeing him live again -this time in Liverpool. That wasn't to be, unfortunately. (The second time he's cancelled on me- the last occasion it was Glastonbury-but I digress)

My favourite songs on this are 'She's always dancing' and 'Walk like a giant.' It contains that trademark Crazy Horse guitar sound and backing vocal harmonies that have complemented Neil's music so well down the years.

To summarise, it's a lenghty CD (2 discs worth) but definitely worth the investment of time and money.

I've had this product for a month and am more than pleased with the consistency with which it grinds peppercorns. It also looks sleek and elegant.

Highly recommended.

...but the recipes I've tried have come out well. Don't be scared to add a bit here, and take a little there to the recipes in the book to adjust to your own unique palate.

I'm sure Ms Jaffrey won't be offended if you do, but would instead admire your sense of adventure for doing so!
