5.0 out of 5 stars A promising start for a great career, 21 Feb. 2017
This review is from: Zombies Have Fallen (Amazon Video)
Great to see that the upcoming generation of hugely talented British film makers has a chance to showcase their work on a big platform like Amazon Prime.
Made clearly on an absolute shoestring budget, director Hampson makes the most out of what he's got (he's writing, directing, producing, shooting and editing) and manages to produce an alround enjoyable viewing experience that for all it's fun let's us look past the minor flaws any micro budget debut would have.
There's lots more to come from this director!

What happend here???
This book was the greatest disappointment I had in a very very long time.
From the very start this felt like J. K. Rowling wants to prove to her readership that she's capable of writing adult literature. What comes out is some overexagerrated descriptions of someone suffering a burst aneurysm and the most random use of swearwords I have ever encountered.
I stopped reading the book after about 200 pages.
It wasn't for me, I found the story dull and the characters very unrelatable.
What happened to the beautiful writing style that made us all fall in love with her other books that shall not be named?
Let's hope whatever comes next will be an improvement on this. But then thinking about it, everything will be an improvement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Soundtrack, 15 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Audio CD)
Yes the latest Doctor Who series wasn't the greatest but the soundtrack is (excuse the horrible play on words) Gold.

I can honestly say, this is my favourite Doctor Who soundtrack to date! Murray Gold has exceeded himself one more time! From saying goodbye to old friends and familiar themes in the heartbreaking "Together or not at all" and "Goodbye Pond" to the introduction of the beautiful new theme in "Oswin Oswald" and the epic throwback to Gallifreys golden age in "To save the Doctor" the 2 discs burst with tracks you want to hear over and over and over again.

What sticks out most for me is the fact that for the first time every single episode seems to have it's very own musical touch and style. While listening to it, it seems very easy to determine where one episode ends and another one starts, something I never experienced on a Doctor Who soundtrack before.

The only let down for me is that some episodes didn't quite get enough coverage in my opinion. Both "Hide" and "Journey to the Center of the Tardis" only get one track each. Especially "Hide" had so many interesting musical cues on it that I would've loved to hear. On the other hand, I find the tracks representing "Nightmare in Silver" quite repetitive and would've prefered having less of them on the CD, but that's just my personal taste.

I also enjoyed playing the game: Find all variations of the "I am the Doctor" theme. Even though the original theme barely shows up during Season 7 you can find many hints and variations of the 11th Doctors catchy melody.

One last thing I need to get of my chest:
Why do manufacturers nowadays tend to selling CDs in cardboard sleeves? It looks very nice but I always found the plastic cases nicer and they should techincally protect the CDs better, shouldn't they?

3.0 out of 5 stars Tolkien fans will appreciate it, 15 Sept. 2013

I must admit, War in the North isn't a great game. Its biggest flaws are possibly the very repetitive combat system and simply the fact that it's a very buggy game. Be prepared for frame dropping en masse and regular crashes.
Putting that aside I still very much enjoyed playing War in the North. And that is because I am a massive fan of Tolkiens books and Peter Jacksons films. War in the North manages beautifully to connect both the books and the films throwing you in places you have seen in the films and are a joy to explore and in places you have never seen before but fit very well in the general look that Jackson and his team created. In addition Warner Bros adds several unexpected cameos (sadly none of them is voiced by their original actor).
My verdict:
If you're a big fan of the films and the books and you want to kill a couple of hours exploring an untold story set during the War of the Ring, you will enjoy yourself. If you're looking for a good stand-alone game, look somewhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the best, 7 July 2013

Even almost a decade later, Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings Trilogy is still one of the best and well crafted pieces of film.

In my opinion, this Extended Edition DVD Box Set is also one of the best ever published for a film. Jackson and his team manage to give you a surprisingly honest look behind the scenes of one of the biggest movie productions of all time.

You won't find any glorification here as you so often do in other Behind the Scenes featurettes where everyon is just congratulating themselves and assuring what a great time they had.
Here, when they say, they had a great time, you actually believe them, even more, as the Behind the Scenes team also does not hesitate to show you the darker moments during the making of the films.

The films itself are presented here in the Extendet Editions and are a must-see for every Lord of the Rings fan. Not only do you get three fantastic films, but additionally to that, every film comes with at least 3 different audio commentaries (a writers one, an actors one and an art department one) who are very interesting and very entertaining to listen to at the same time.

This box set gives you not only three perfect films in (for DVD standart) perfect picture and sound quality, but also one of the best look at what it takes to make a movie.

When I first watched them ten years ago, they inspired me to become a filmmaker myself.

Go. Buy. It.

Ólafur Arnalds third studio Album "For Now I Am Winter" is one of the best albums I have heard in years!!

The tracks seamlessly lead from one to the other making this not a compilation of 12 different songs but one big journey, one big symphony that is best listened to from beginning to end and as loud as your speakers can bare.

Starting of very quiet and simple, he manages to build up tension through the first half of the album climaxing in the epic "Reclaim" my personal favourite. The second half gradually reduces this tension, ending with the very simple but beautiful "Carry Me Anew". Arnalds presents us a full circle, an album that can and should be listened to over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Quality of the T-Shirt is very good.
The only thing I wasn't very happy about is that the print itself seems very faded and not as clear as it looks on the photo.
Also the T-Shirt's colour is far more yellow-beige than depicted on the photo.
Apart from that, I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars SKYRIM, 21 Dec. 2011
There's not much to say about Skyrim.
Everyone who played Bethesdas Elder Scrolls series before knows, what makes these games so special. Skyrim takes all of these elements times 5, making this game to a unique gaming experience, you never ever had before and won't get again anytime soon. Skyrim is not about the main storyline, it's not about leveling up. Skyrim is about experiencing the world in a way that is as close to reality as possible. Bethesda created a world in which you can do whatever you want, go wherever you want.
I bought the game on it's release day and played about 30 hours so far and I am far away from loosing the fun in playing it or having nothing to do. There are quests everywhere and sometimes you just catch yourself admiring the beautiful landscape around you...
Skyrim is without doubt one of the best games I ever played and definetly a game you wont get bored of quickly. BUY IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Ending, 5 Aug. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a huge fan of books & films from the very beginning, I can't deny that I was sad, when this very last soundtrack was published, because it ment the end of what was a very long journey...
And this very last soundtrack doesn't disappoint. Alexandre Desplat shows us everything he can, and he can do a lot.
Main Theme of this last Harry Potter film is the haunting "Lily's Theme" introduced in the first track. A quiet piece, not really what you expect of what seems to be first of all an action packed finale. But Desplat shows us here, what the film really is all about. It is more or less the story of Snape and Lily. Of course you got the loud and bombastic pieces, but it all comes back to this very quiet theme.
It may be not the best of all 8 soundtracks (my favorite ones are still number 3 and 7.1) but it is enjoyable listening to.
Why only 4 stars?
Well, just because it is not as good as Desplats first Harry Potter Soundtrack but fits perfectly to the film and is a worthy ending for the series. If you are a fan of the film, buy it, if you are just looking for a good soundtrack without caring that much about the films, think about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can you really call this a "soundtrack"?, 13 Jun. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First of all I want to say, that I am a huge Hans Zimmer fan for several years now. Especially the soundtrack for the last Pirates of the Caribbean film "At Worlds End" is still one of my favourite soundtracks of all time!
Therefore I was really excited about this new musical pirates-chapter.

Looking at it now, I am not sure about being disappointed or not.

The Music is great as always, Zimmer manages it to develop the themes in a nice way and into new directions. Especially the collaboration with guitar duo Rodriguez y Gabriela produced some of the best tracks in the PotC history.
Sadly you're not hearing much of this new development in the actual film.
Except of "Palm Tree Escape" and "Angelica" all of the other guitar-tracks are for some strange reason not included in the finished film! Even the titles don't make any sense looking at the films context. "The Pirate That Should Not Be", "South of Heaven's Chanting Mermaids" and "Angry and Dead Again" are brilliant tracks, but their titles do not fit at all in the films storyline!
Having this in mind, the tracks on the CD that are from the actual soundtrack of the film are reduced to 8! (or in other words 29 minutes!!!)
And that is the big disappointment of this soundtrack. Who wants to listen to the 7(!) Remixes that are put on the CD? I didn't. If you buy a soundtrack you expect to hear music from a film and not remixes and not used tracks!
So even though the CD is enjoyable to listen to (except the Tracks 12 to 18) and includes some really fantastic musical pieces, it fails completely in providing the Score of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides".
If you are a Hans Zimmer fan, buy it, it's worth it, if you're looking for the music of the film, save your money!
