5.0 out of 5 stars I have been looking for yellow tinted over-glasses for months ..., 16 April 2016

I have been looking for yellow tinted over-glasses for months. I wanted them for using the computer at night so the 'blue' light from the screen doesn't affect my sleep - lots available but few for those of us who wear glasses. These fit the bill perfectly - the lenses are lightly coloured enough so vision is totally clear. I haven't tried them for night driving, but I will.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hypnosis? Wishful thinking, that's all., 29 Jan. 2016

Oh dear - I have to review this book. As a thriller, it has its elements but as for its use of hypnosis, it's altogether out of whack. I guess I know altogether too much about hypnosis, its therapeutic uses and the susceptibility in the population (normal curves and all that). Fantasy is one thing but abuse of scientific knowledge is unforgivable. I gave it 3 stars because the story does carry one along. Too bad about the misuse of the science of hypnosis...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sisters...and all so different, 29 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent idea for a book - four sisters, all different, all reacting to something that happened over 15 years before. The author pulls us along as the backstory is dribbled out - very well done. And I did like the New Zealand context, I have to admit. The eventual clear labelling of what happened is pure genius.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey, fraud is interesting!, 29 Jan. 2016

I really loved the primary hypothesis that fraud is intrinsically interesting. And it is! Four stars because of that in spite of a few amateur aspects of the writing. Still, four is quite a good rating - and the topic is good.

5.0 out of 5 stars History with good writing - a great combo, 16 Jan. 2016

Well done, TK Roxborough! I was intrigued from the start. Very good historical detail coupled with excellent description of terrain and characters - just what everyone who likes a good historical yarn wants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep a watch on Ryan..., 16 Jan. 2016

The Mark of Halam is the second Jeff Bradley thriller by Thomas Ryan, and a very good yarn it is. I’ve now read both of his books and Ryan has again proved to be a highly competent writer of high-energy adventure in this second book, just like the first, A Field of Blackbirds, which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. This time, Jeff is in his native New Zealand - lots of great detail - but again contending with highly trained and dangerous terrorists from the Middle East. This is an author to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want to be YOUNGER? Read and find out..., 16 July 2015

This review is from: Younger (Kindle Edition)
I guess, getting a book for free or only 99p means it may be awful. Not this one. I loved it. I loved the subject matter (women's ageing and the changes in our looks) and how it plays on everywoman's fears of becoming invisible as she ages. Anna, 57, finds herself employed to promote an exciting new treatment to regain the face of a younger self. She took the treatment herself and it actually worked. But the result was not all it seemed. An exciting roller-coaster of a story that examines the many aspects of becoming (or looking like) a woman 30 years younger (speech, clothes, morals, music and the list goes on) - and whether it's all it's cracked up to be. Read and enjoy, especially if you're a woman who is that bit older....

Got this book for free and I have to say it's the best freebie I've had in ages. Well worth paying for it, actually! If you like feisty heroines and a good dash of legal eagle shenanigans, you'll love this book as much as I did. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars SHORT STORY BONANZA !, 4 Mar. 2015

He’s done it again – Thomas Ryan is a writer extraordinaire, as can be seen in the success of his best-selling first volume of stories titled simply ‘Short Stories’ and his thriller ‘Field of Blackbirds’ and now in SHORT STORIES VOLUME 2. He brings his thriller writing skills to his short stories – they are taut, exciting and captivating and written with charm. Finally, a short story writer who combines the short story writing skills of an Alice Munro and the thriller writing skills of a Lee Child – a must-read for those thriller aficionados who haven’t yet dared delve into short stories, those short story aficionados who haven’t yet read the thriller kind, and those of us who enjoy both. My favourite? The ‘historical’ story about the laconic John Wayne. Delightful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold onto your hat!, 2 Mar. 2015
Whew! This is a roller-coaster ride of full-on wise-cracks, injustices and cynicism that tumbles the imagination and batters the senses. And then there’s soup, witches, cannibalism, soup, battles, a cat, soup and various mad humans … one of whom just may be DaSoul, the Chosen One (it helps). Hold onto your hat when you delve into this world. Otherwise you may be the flavouring in one of those delicious soups…oh, and it's well written.
