Touching and sensitively handled, 10 Jun. 2012
I bought this film as I've always had an interest in this genre, and this film seemed to have an interesting angle, from what I had read about it. Immediately I found it utterly captivating. Refreshing to find a gay film, or any film in-fact, where the two leads are not perfectly formed pretty-boys, but ordinary looking, yet charming characters. It gave the film a sense of realism and grounding.
The story was touching, engaging and sensitively handled by the director. There are some truly beautiful moments and the ending was haunting. Ever since watching this film I have found it hard to shake as it is certainly a film that makes you think. It is a film that is very hard to just switch off and forget, unlike so many romantic films churned out nowadays.
Aside from a few moments, which any film has, and the somewhat intrusive musical score, this film was well worth the money and atmospheric. For anyone interested in the genre particularly, or in search of a refreshingly different romance tale, this is worth a nod - I for one went straight away to buy the book.
