3.0 out of 5 stars Jonathan Creek is back!, 15 Mar. 2014
Putting aside that I miss the Windmill. It really has not appeared in so long and the one in the excellent Grinning Man was not even his windmill :D Though I will always complain that I rather miss it and it deserved a goodbye scene...
But where we are is where we are.
Episode 1 is the biggest let down of the series. It may have just been for the shock of it not having a mystery. The plot seemed to be mainly to make fun of other BBC detective series 'Sherlock'. But there is no point doing this if you're not going to prove that Jonathan Creek is better. Both the first two episodes are a bit bonkers and with little to no mystery it is a slow journey. Not an entirely un-enjoyable one. But there is no 'DELIGHT feeling' the viewer might get when reaching Jonathan's conclusion. This was what made episode three a brilliant stand out. It was well done in every way. Not just the brilliant mystery and reveal but settling us into this new place they live. I found the previous two eps did not really do this. Kind of wishing it was only the one episode... (3) this series was different... not in a great way. but a watchable way. Undecided on purchasing. (PS: WHERE is Adam Claus?)

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad entry to the series, 26 Aug. 2013
Before writing this short review I had a look and discovered that TV crews are unable to film at the Windmill anymore. Jonathan Creek always filmed both inside and outside of the Mill. This unfortunate update means Jonathan would no longer have his beautiful and wacky home.

That aside, how did they deal with this? Unfortunately David Renwick did not deal with it and just scrapped everything from the past. Even Jonathan's career as a magicians assistant. Adam Klaus did not appear in this episode, i was waiting and waiting and unfortunately he never appeared in new Jonathan's life.

While I like the casting of Jonathan's wife there is no point in him being unhappy in the relationship when he connected better with 3 previous women. Seeing him in the office was a mess with my head as a fan and because of all of this change something was totally out of place. He was still and non-magical. So sad to see him like this and end this episode on this.

The mystery is average, not the quality of previous adventures, The Grinning Man being the most recent highlight.

I would have liked the windmill to make some sort of cameo, as such an important part of Jonathan's life, or even he mention it with a good reason for the move. Even to see how he met his wife would have been a nice add on.

There are only 2 highlights of this episode, Sheridan Smith and the fact we've missed this show so much anything is good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, one for a collector, 19 Dec. 2012

This Character Sketchbook is a full 70 page history of design for the keen Brackenwood Collector. There is a brilliant amount of drawings in there to keep you interested, inspired and ready to see more. It looks as if there has been a lot of effort put into finding those hidden sketchy treasures in lost places just for this book.
There is a variation of character design ideas sketched down as well as movement experiences for the animations themselves. These are the most exciting, even in the static poses we can see by the sketchyness that the animation is already in the mind of the artist.
Some of my favourite art in the book comes from storyboard-like poses drawn for scenes in the films.
My only changes would be that some of the designs could have had some side notes for the reader, I do enjoy the notes based on prowlie designs towards the end.
The other change would be there being little modern character designs like the new designed Lemonee Wee.

Other than that this is exactly what I was looking for. Seeing the character designs leading up to some exciting stances is really all you need, there is so much life in every drawing.
Like the animator behind the book, the artwork turns the pages like a moving picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beginners, 22 Feb. 2012
This review is from: Blur: The Best Of (Audio CD)
Like the recent 'Midlife' this album is great for beginners. Although as it is a re-release I would have thought they'd have added 'Out of Time'.

This is the album I started on back when it was first released, since then I have collected every album and some singles. So, if you want to hear some great pop from the 90s, this is for you. If you want to hear some Blur, buy all of the albums!

I love this album. It is Little Dragon trying something new which they do brilliantly.
First off, the CD case is cardboard. Meaningful cover and hand written logo. The back cover is a nice colour of green with the tracklisting and title of the album.
A very nice CD case to have on your shelf.

This album is all about experimenting with weird sounds to make beats and tunes. And then getting their brilliant vocalist to connect it all together like pop glue. Although the sounds are unique in themselves.

The song ritual union, is not the highlight of the album but still a very good track. And a memorable one as well. My favourite tracks on the album would be Little Man, Please Turn, Nightlight, When i go Out and Seconds.

When I Go Out is an interesting track, creating a tune out of basically just a beat and an alien voice. But still it is really nice to have playing in the background.

My only complaint would be in Brush the Heat (Which i also love) there is a really screamy sound which did not sound so great on my stereo.
All in all, great album ,great sounds, and great choruses.
Just wish it was longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good film, 26 April 2011

I was surprised to see a very recent Peanuts release, something we don't hear about in the UK.
This film is not as good as the earlier specials or series, but that is only becauses Charles was not here to write it himself.
The writer and director have done a very good job at taking the comics and creating a really powerful and modern feature film.
The animation is very good, although the look is so clean it does not really compare to the earlier ones, it looks maybe too clean.

On the plus side the characters suddenly look very cute, and the film + the amazingly beautiful music (Maybe a reason to buy this) creates a real mood for you, a real tale for Linus.

Charlie Browns story that runs through the background is based on the earlier comics, showing mainly failure and depression. This is kind of funny at times, I'd have liked to see him act a bit more human though, rather than 100% emo.
Also i would have liked to have seen more fun with snoopy, all he is there for is to attack Linus and his blanket. There must have been room to fit scene where snoopy is doing his daily fun activities (Like earlier films)

Worth buying as a collector and a film maker, it all works really well together and will be watched many times by me and my siblings.

5.0 out of 5 stars well it is 5 stars, 11 April 2011
This review is from: Witchazel (Audio CD)
This cd has beautiful instrumental moments all the way through. This is my main reason for enjoying it. How sweet, happy and perfect the sound is.
Also how mixed it is! Moving through different years of musical influence.
All with Matt Berry's great voice hovering through it all.

My first 5 star CD

2.0 out of 5 stars the big Five, 9 April 2011
This review is from: Skins - Series 5 [DVD] (DVD)
Some really good characters. The first episode pulls you right in.. but then the series gets a bit slow. There is no strong story working through the whole series. It's more different relationships that are not quite happening, then they are not happening, then they have changed sexuality.
I'm almost positive the next series, now these characters have been developed, will be better.
Not all the characters are likeable though. But that is ok, i was surprised when my opinion suddenly tipped upside down about a character i really did not like.
So in that respect its a good series, but without those great winding stories it was more like Eastenders than the earlier series.
Also the lighting/camera work seems much different to the previous series, I'm not sure whether i like it. Its a grimey realistic handy cam look. Not sure if that was intentional

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique, 5 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Think Tank (Audio CD)
I've loved every song Blur have ever made. Whilst Think Tank is not my #1 album by them it holds a special place in my heart.
First off the artwork and artbook are the biggest high light (Banksy work) and highlights the music itself.
(Damon must have VERY good social skills (plastic beach, banksy)
Anyway the album has a whole unique sound of rock and experimental grungyness. With electronic sounds and such. Its all a weird step but all together creates a beautiful album.
Classics include
Out of time (My fave song to date)
Crazy Beat
Good Song
Brothers and Sisters
and Sweet Song
I guess if you're going to name songs good and sweet they better be good and sweet. And they are.
This album will be listened to for years and years. As a real emotional moment in the Blur career and a 3 piece album comeback. Please buy
Out of Time might be the reason to buy this album
