5.0 out of 5 stars ASPECTS OF NAT, 10 Jan. 2014
Reviewers who criticize this set are missing the point. He was not just a man with a wonderful voice; he was also a jazz man and jazz pianist. This set shows more sides of him than most, including me, are aware of. I have enjoyed listening to different versions of the familiar. There are compilations just covering his greatest hits. Also, I have not found the sound quality poor. All in all, I am glad I was given this as a gift and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT A FILM OF 'THE HOBBIT', 7 Jan. 2013
If you have read the book, you must have an open mind when you watch the film. It is not a filmed version of the book - it is Lord of the Rings part 0, i.e. a precursor to LOTR. The film is OK, the 3D is good. Characters are introduced that are not part of The Hobbit, some I do not remember even in LOTR! The film is too long, the battle scenes ridiculous and gruesome for youngsters. There are obvious stupidities, e.g. the heroes are rescued and then dumped miles from their destination; why are they not taken all the way? The heroes fall down 1000s of feet of rock without a broken limb or even a bruise! I cannot see how The Hobbit, a shorter book than the individual LOTR volumes is going to be turned into a 7 or 8 hour 3-part epic! Although, I have criticized the film, if you have not read the book, but only seen the LOTR films, you should enjoy this film. I personally will not bother with the other 2 parts; I will wait until someone actually makes a film of The Hobbit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but Flawed, 11 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Everyone has their own opinions about what should be included in a 'best of' collection. For me this is missing some notable tracks and includes some which should not be in it. This is a Strawbs collection, so the 3 terrible Hudson-Ford songs should not be in it - they do not represent the Strawbs. I wish 'Flying', 'Fuschia' and 'Tears and Pavane' had been included, and that 'Part of the Union' had not. Personally, I feel that 'Part of the Union' was the least representative track of the Strawbs, and definitely the worst for me.

No one needs telling what a fabulous voice this lady has. This compilation is outstanding value for money. The recording quality is good, the selection of tracks is good and varied. Listening to this will make anyone want to acquire all of her recordings. If you are unsure as what collection to buy, just dive in here.

1.0 out of 5 stars How can this be called classical?, 29 Nov. 2011
It might be what some call classical, but most won't. This is Classic FM's idea of classical, i.e. film scores, shortened pieces (e.g. Lark Ascending), male voice choirs, classical artists performing 'pop'. All I hope is that it encourages people who buy it to investigate classical music in more depth. There are hundreds of years of excellent thought-provoking pieces of music to listen to, and all compilations like this do is recycle the same old bits time and time again! I would like to give this zero stars!

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time, 16 May 2011
In the past I have enjoyed the Alex Cross stories and had high hopes for this. I was bitterly disappointed. It was a dull story, badly written, predictable and cliche ridden. Also, in the copy I had, the print was so large that the length was equivalent to a 250 page book! I will try other Bennett stories as Patterson generally writes enjoyable and gripping stories. I hope he's not going the way of Patricia Cornwell whose books have got progressively worse.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Rubbish, 25 Nov. 2010
This review is from: The Genesis Suite (Audio CD)
Just like his Queen 'Symphony' this is boring background music. I'm glad he did not butcher any early genesis as that would have been even worse. This deserves 0 stars. There's not a single original idea here. There is good modern classical music around, but this is not it.

4.0 out of 5 stars ONLY ONE THING MISSING, 28 April 2009
I only have one criticism of this package - why doesn't the DVD include all the tracks as played on the CDs? Yes the physical packaging needs careful handling to avoid damage, but this type seems to be the trend today. The overall quality of playing, presentation, etc. is superb, and the orchestra adds another dimension. But why don't we get the full concert on DVD? Jon Carin is something of a Floyd expert now as he's also played on Roger Waters' DVD!

1.0 out of 5 stars RUBBISH, 26 Jan. 2009
This review is from: The Mist [DVD] (DVD)
One day someone will make a good film of a King 'nasty', but this is not it. Too many holes in plot. Just a couple: compare first creatures (tentacles) with all subsequent creatures (mixture of Alien, Arachnophobia and umpteen others); first night attack then no more night attacks. Primeval on British TV has more realistic creatures than this. I never saw so many stereotypes in one film before. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but short, 29 Sept. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I totally agree with all the reviews raving about the quality of the music and the performances. However, what no one has mentioned is how short the CDs are: a total of 100 mins over 2 CDs. Remember that you can get nearly 80 mins on one CD. Surely more could have been added to make these even better value and give his growing fanbase more of his tremendous extended tracks. There are two extended tracks which show Joe at his best. I'd like to have heard even more of these and more acoustic.
