4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Brilliant, 24 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The very fact that Fururama got a new series is fantastic and theres some really fantastic episodes in the series but theres also a couple of rather average ones too.

Its also a shame that theres only 13 episodes but who cares! Its more Futurama!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cracking Read!, 18 May 2009
I picked up the book from a charity shop the other day expecting a fairly cheesy read but, much to my surprise, found that the book is an excellent read!

With a good selection of heroes and villains, no to mention just about everything from clones to upgraded dogs and ghouls to bounty hunters and an army of intelligent lizards the story cracks on at a good pace and has some nice humour in it too. Its not what you would expect from a Star Trek author (which is a good thing in my opinion!)

One slightly odd thing about the book is the authors tendency to put in random notes which tend to go off on a tangent from the main story. Saying that, it actually improves some of the characters back story and explains their motivations very nicely.

Well worth a read if you can get hold of it and I cant wait to read the conclusion to the story in the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Stuff!, 18 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Space Captain Smith (Paperback)
Well I've just finished reading Space Captain Smith for a second time and must admit I love it!

With a good mix of humour, derring-do and some really entertaining characters this book is great fun and doesn't take itself too seriously but still manages to have a really great story!

I am really looking forward for the sequel to come out in September and would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good light hearted adventure story!

I do believe that the books could make a great setting for a red dwarf style of tv show as it could very well be fantastic!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Interestinng Stuff!, 5 Jun. 2008
I picked up this book on a whim and have found it to be quite useful as there are some nice techniques showcased in it with a good variety of styles which includes some rather nice step by step walkthroughs of the illustrations.

It may not be the best of its type out there but is worth having a look at especially if you can get it cheaply as there are some good ideas to be found in it!

My only critisism is why did they put such a naff CGI dragon on the cover as it doesnt even feature in the book and may put people off!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 5 Jun. 2008
I too have owned this book for ages and its looking fairly bashed as well! I have found it to be the best piece of art reference material I've ever bought. It contains a bit of everything and was one of the main reasons why I went to college to study illustration.

Despite having been published quite a while ago I have to admit that I havent found anything that has been published since that is as comprehensive, easy to read and follow, not to mention as nicely illustrated!

It would be nice to see an updated version too (possibly in a larger format)

If you are interested in fantasy art techniques I would highly recommend this book!
