2.0 out of 5 stars Good technical advice for beginners, 29 Mar. 2015

I might have bought the wrong book, having done some mosaic work already, Good technical advice for beginners, but projects are not inspiring. Far better are The mosaic decorator's sourcebook (Rosalind Wates) and Making mosaics (Martin Cheek)

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic, 6 Dec. 2012

This review is from: The Food of Spain (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my daughter, an avid cook with some knowledge of spanish cuisine. When I flicked through the pages I was a bit concerned that a lot of the recipes she would know. Yes, they are simple and yes she had cooked some of the food from other books. However, this brings Spanish cooking to where it starts from. As always her narrative is beautiful and instructive; rather like Jane Grigson's books. You can feel her love of the country, her knowledge of spanish food, their local cuisine and its total use of regional produce. Anyone going on holiday to Spain with a view to buy, eat, cook spanish food should read this book and take it with them if in self catering premises.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen [DVD]
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen [DVD]
Dvd ~ Ewan McGregor
Price: £3.00

5.0 out of 5 stars comfort viewing with a twist (of lemon), 6 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A film I never raced to the cinema to see, but more than worthwhile as a DVD. We guess the ending, but that's irrelevant. The little twists and turns during the story, the acting, the location, the small acting parts played, and the subtle changes in music and script make this a film to watch more than once.

Au bonheur des dames (French Edition)

5.0 out of 5 stars pour les francophones, 6 Dec. 2012

Having read a lot of Zola's novels in the past, this was an eye opener. I bought it as a result of the tv series based on the book. Quite a difference, but much prefer the book. As usual, Zola provides atmosphere with an alarming intrusion to all the senses; perhaps more so in this book. An amazing understanding of the role of women and their power in a newly established consumerism market in French economy during the period. The vicinity of the local shop with the total power to destroy both owners and workplaces by a potentate is in many ways reminiscent of the current situation. Despite the usual Zolaesque theme of poverty, power and potency, there are wonderful cameo scenes of humour. To all who saw the tv series and know something about this epoque in Paris, please read!

4.0 out of 5 stars measure the scratches!, 6 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Did as it said on the packet. Easy to use with good instructions but we didn't realise the depth of some of the scratches on our kitchen table. Thinner scratches, all but obliterated, but the deeper ones will need more work.
No faults on the product but it is difficult to work out beforehand how well the product will remove all scratches. One complaint about the package is the amount of liquid is limited. Are refills available?

This review is from: Rush Hour Logic Game (Toy)
I bought this game for my grandson's 9th birthday. He loves the challenge, plays with it a lot (when he can keep it from other members of the family) and doesn't get bored with something that doesn't involve the excitement of computer games and the like. A really good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars all the best for being abroad, 25 Oct. 2011

Amazing what geography and culture can be learned from these books set outside Gaul! My 8 year old grandson has now completed the full series. Anyone who listens to a child reading this out loud will get pure enjoyment. Reading it together can be just as much fun. What a series of characters, stories, puns and jokes; not to mention some brief, albeit not totally accurate, history.
