5.0 out of 5 stars Spreads well, firm, 3 Aug. 2017

Using this for about a week now, it's not as noisy as I thought it would be. The firmness is a big help sleeping, I'm finding this much better than memory foam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, 12 May 2017

I like it - good for passports, some important cards. I keep it folded up in a tin. It's somewhat thick but you don't need gloves to handle it.

Untested in a fire. I hope I don't have to report back.

I bought the Kindle edition and it ends at Chapter 18. I'm sure the print versions are probably full but stay away from the Kindle edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for casual use, not for extended play, 6 May 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I decided to wait a bit as month-1 hype can be overwhelming when it comes to many products in the gaming world, especially something from Nintendo. The Switch did receive a lot of hype and was declared to be a great console. It's only when you start using it that the issues start to surface. These won't apply to everyone, however.

Overall it's well built and the best part is the custom NVidia Tegra GPU inside can perform well. When it's working hard you can definitely feel the heat above the vents. The screen works well for the games it renders and when displaying on a large screen, even a 1440p screen, the quality is not too bad.

A few issues that came up were - using the controller on the default JoyCon grip would start hurting after a while, it's just not meant for big hands or long use, it's small and flimsy and cheap. Instead, you have to get a "pro" controller, which feels like a bit of a moneygrab, as other consoles simply supply a good controller with the device. Further, the JoyCon grip itself cannot be charged while being used. Instead you'd have to shell out for a separate pair of JoyCon grips which do have that feature. Another moneygrab.

The dock, although it doesn't do much, is a neat addition to a computer desk, you can have it sitting somewhere to the side and display to your monitor. In my case I had it going to HDMI while my desktop PC was DisplayPort.

The Switch itself has a USB-C port, but this USB-C port is effectively useless as it doesn't charge off regular USB-C sources, you have to use the supplied USB-C wall charger. They might as well have made it a proprietary connector like previous consoles.

To a patientgamer I'd recommend waiting until there are more titles for this console. Overall it's an OK console but nowhere near the praise it receives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Workaround available!, 27 April 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nice coasters if you like cats.

Not so nice if you like grammar. I noticed that one particular coaster, the reddish one, had an incorrect usage of "it's". I did try looking away, and did try covering it with my coffee mug but often found myself moving the mug out of the way to stare in morbid fascination at the offending grammatical blunder. Although I wish I had spotted this before placing the order, I was now considering returning it. Yet, the quality of the coasters and the felt backing, its (ahem) easy-clean surface gave me paws...

PAWS!

That gave me an idea! I explained to that particular cat what the problem was and it was absolutely horrified once it realised what was wrong! It very promptly and very kindly covered up the lexical blight with one of its paws and kept it there. Once it did so, the problem was "out of sight, out of mind", I no longer kept looking and staring and was able to enjoy my coffee in peace.

At the time of writing, the cat continues to cover up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to remember your Nier Automata journey, 9 April 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nier:Automata was one of the most evocative, nostalgic and melancholic games of 2017 and this soundtrack captures everything from it perfectly. The ruins, the camp, the desert. The music is haunting and really makes you remember the various members of the world you encountered along your playthroughs. One great artistic choice, IMO, was the tracks sung in 'chaos' language - you get a feeling of the song's feelings but you don't have to pay attention to lyrics. Just enjoy it. At the same time it was a big part of the game's narrative and helped convey so much more.

You won't get exactly what you heard, instead you get some of the tracks mixed together. For example, the City of Ruin track (which plays when you're in the central area with the fallen bridge) has the piano version, vocals version and dynamic version together in one track. So you get all of it and you don't have to sit through 6 hours of the various versions of a single tune.

The only thing it's missing (IMO) is Emil's Sacrifice. I believe the reason is that it's from the previous Nier game, so you get Emil's Despair version instead.

This was far cheaper to get than the CDs, the main difference is the CDs have the chiptune versions.

Glorious XXL Extended Gaming Mouse Mat / Pad - Large, Wide (Long) Black Mousepad, Stitched Edges | 36"x18"x0.12" (G-XXL)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for gaming (and eating), 26 Mar. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
While looking for a large extended mousemat to sit under keyboard and mouse, I noticed that while many tend to be around 90cm wide, most popular ones tend to be 30cm in depth (front to back). That's fine for most cases, but if you're a lazy slob like me and eat dinner at your desk in front of your computer, then things get awkward if the mat doesn't cover the entire desk. That's where the 40-45cm depth mousemats come in. There aren't that many in this size range, I chose this particular one simply because the logo was smaller and more out of the way than the others.

Mouse movement is fast and feels like just in the middle between speed and control. So there isn't too much friction and it isn't too loose either. It's perfect for intense gaming-boss fights where you don't want to have to worry about your mouse placement, just swipe anywhere you'd like.

The underside is rubberized so the mousemat doesn't move. The edges of the mousemat are stitched, presumably this is to prevent fraying.

Update 3 months later - Dropped food wipes off easily, but I notice it does get dustier/dirtier quite quickly. The telltale "white" patches appear frequently and I'm having to wipe it off more frequently as time goes on. I have another mousemat which seems to resist dirt better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine for work + home, 16 Jan. 2017
Been using this for about a week now at work + home. Mainly I'm happy that it's low profile, a lot of chargers I get with phones tend to be the long type which doesn't always fit everywhere, whereas the low profile here really helps. It does its job well, haven't experienced any issues regarding the cable falling out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent lens if you want to go ultra wide, 23 Oct. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the widest lens available for Sony mirrorless E mount. In terms of weight it is lighter than others, for now anyway, which makes it a good companion for a mirrorless.

I found it sharp only above f6, but f4-f5 is not that great. The front of it is not super-bulbuous so it's a regular looking lens to carry around.

For the price of the lens I don't consider it good value for money, just decent enough. In the future there may be more ultra wide angle lenses for the E mount but for now this is one of the few OK choices available.

Unravel (EA Games Soundtrack)
Unravel (EA Games Soundtrack)

5.0 out of 5 stars Captures essence of the game perfectly, 23 Oct. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
When the Unravel game came out, it was definitely a memorable experience playing it for the first time - it's not so much a puzzle platformer as it is a story of memories. The soundtrack had not been released at the time and it seems like the team had not expected that fans would want it. Eventually by popular demand, they did release it, here it is. If you've played the Unravel game, this soundtrack perfectly captures the highest (and lowest...) moments from it, it feels quite nostalgic. Some of the tracks from the game seem to have been combined into one, but not in a jarring way. There are 28 tracks, so for the price it's perfectly reasonable.
