4.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet., 10 Aug. 2016

I always enjoy Grace's writing and these short stories are no exception. If only they were a little longer! Looking forward to the next full length release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series, 9 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've really enjoyed this whole series. The pace is good, and tension maintained throughout, meaning that there's very little 'filler' to wade through. I think the overall plot has shades of Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series, but that's not a bad thing. The rating of 4 stars is not a 5 because of the author's annoying habit of putting a superfluous 'what' in far, far too many sentences. Please, please stop doing that!

I was so looking forward to this, and it didn't disappoint!
Sophie and Calder's story continues to head into darkness after Sophie takes the Shadow curse from Calder, but Sophie never gives up her fight back to the Light. There are some new character introductions who add much to the narrative; I particularly loved Faye. As always, Colleen masterfully entwines the plot with the emotional roller-coaster of the characters, drawing the reader deeply into the lives of the main protagonists. I can't wait to find out the rest of both the story in the present, and how the people from the past continue to cast their influence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely *not* a 'boring middle' book., 25 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Michael's writing just gets better and better, and I loved it to begin with so that's a real compliment.
This continuation of Tyrion's story is full of twists and turns, you can love and loathe a character within the same page, sometimes simultaneously and the ending is not what you anticipate from the beginning.
If you want to delve beneath the surface, analogies can be drawn from the way the SheHa treat the humans and the global issues caused by the West's imperialism, though I don't know if that's what Michael intended. If you're not into that sort of thing, don't worry, it's a really really good read.

Guardian (Hidden Book 6)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from Colleen, 4 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Another great book from Colleen, back in the Hidden world but from the POV of Eunomia rather than Molly. If you haven't read the previous series in the Hidden world, it shouldn't matter, this one will still make sense. But you'll get a bit more from it if you do recognise the other characters and all of their quirks and back-story.
As you can imagine, there is plenty of action as E hunts 'lost souls' who don't especially want to be found, but there's also plenty of emotional/psychological strands, as E tries to work out what her purpose is now that she's no longer required as a Guardian, and those parts are just as powerful as the fight scenes. I'm really, really looking forward to the next in this series.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good idea, poorly executed., 9 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a good idea, but poorly executed. The pyramid part of the book holder, which the book is supposed to rest on, is overstuffed, with the result that the book doesn't actually lean back against it. This renders the whole thing useless, because the book is unstable, and, too upright to be read easily. It may work better with a slim e-reader or tablet, but we wanted it for actual books for which I think it is unsuitable.

I've previously read Colleen Vanderlinden's 'Hidden' series and really enjoyed them, and although this is different in many ways, Colleen's brilliant characterization and settings remain to the fore. This novel seems to move the action further into the psychological with a bit less emphasis on the action that characterised Molly and the gang in Hidden, but it's no less gripping for that.
I'm really, really looking forward to the next instalment!

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it., 18 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've had the black version of this cover for 6 months, and it's just starting to get a bit battered around the outside edges. My phone is heavily used for the internet, music, Kindle app, camera etc, and I think that's pretty good so I'm just about to order another one.
Some people have complained about the feel of the cover when new, and I can only refer to the black one obviously, but I think it feels good quality and reasonably close to the feel of leather. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because the rather than being magnetic just down the edge of the cover, the whole of the front flap is magnetic and my keys get stuck to it which is slightly irritating.

This is a stunning finale to the series! What an emotional rollercoaster! I laughed, wept, laughed some more, and felt my heart melt more than once.

Thank you Colleen for so many hours of entertainment over this series, can't wait to see what you do next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it!, 26 May 2014

Strife carries on the roller-coaster ride that is Molly's life, and the reader is carried with her through the peaks and troughs by Colleen's brilliant writing. I laughed, cried, and punched the air in triumph reading this novel.
It's very difficult toreview without giving spoilers, but if you've read the previous books in the series, this one will not disappoint! If you're just discovering Ms Vanderlinden, you're a very lucky reader, and you should savour your way through books 1-3 first.
