5.0 out of 5 stars Quality throughout., 29 Oct. 2007
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Ryan Adams is nothing but prolific, the amount of work he releases is astonishing yet the quality always remains, Gold is possibly his most commerical work to date and showcases a great selection of relaxing, lyrically apt songs that will eat away at you somehow becoming instilled forever. Everytime i hear any song from this album it seems to calm me, a fantastic album from a very good and still youngish artist, lets hope there's plenty more to come. 'La Cienega just smiled' is my all time favourite Adams song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound, great melodies, good songwriting, 12 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Beta Male Fairytales (Audio CD)
This album captures the listener from the start, it sort of draws you in and is instantly calming, a great album to chill out to after a stress-filled day. The melodies are great, virtually every song is catchy and will be with you for days even after only one listen. The album is full of well-written tunes combined with good melodies and a great croaky-style voice, the overall effect works really well and the album flows majestically from one track to the next. Although this album is excellent there are a couple of dodgy tracks near the end of the album which really prevents the album from being of 5-star standard. I disagree completely with a previous reviewer, this is exactly what the british music industry needs, a band that writes and performs their own stunning ballads, what we dont need are more talentless pop groups and artists that emerge from talent shows and then disapear within 3 months, this group are here to stay.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couple of outstanding tracks, shame about the rest., 12 Aug. 2007
I bought this album on the basis of hearing one track, mary mother, this track for me is absolutely outstanding and deserves a larger platform than it has had, however along with 'little people' these are the only 2 properly good tracks here and the rest of the album is a slight disapointment. Its a shame because the two tracks i've mentioned really are extremely good, however, at the price this album goes for through marketplace it really is worth getting it just for these tracks. Generally an average album overall but deserves 4 stars in my opinion because of the quality of tracks 4 and 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pop-rock tunes, 10 Aug. 2007
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
In 'trip to the 13th' Bliss 66 have produced an album full of easily accessible tunes generally of the pop-rock genre which can be enjoyed by a variety of audiences. The songs provide catchy riffs backed up by a strong vocal talent resulting in an easily listenable, enjoyable LP without challenging the listener to think too hard. The opening two tracks are the strongest for me with the opener 'paramont' providing the best moment. Recommended if you enjoy good, catchy, american alternative-style hooks but if you look for music which challenges you then look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silvercrush, 29 Aug. 2006
This review is from: Stand Imp (Audio CD)
I initially came across this album when listening to samples on amazon.com and was struck by the power of the vocals and the meaning behind the lyrics, having read the reviews I was instantly struck by the immense history of a band with only one studio release and the struggles and hurdles leaped in order to get where they are now. This album is simply sublime and appeals perfectly to my musical taste which, is a mixture of American Alternative and English Indie music. This album is rare in that I can listen to the whole album through without the need to skip an odd dodgy track, every track is fantastic, the vocals are great, the guitars and drums are tight and the lyrics are relevant and meaningful. This album would be a great addition to any collection but especially to fans of bands such as Creed, Incubus, Jeremiah Freed and Familiar 48/Bonehead. po

4.0 out of 5 stars Bonehead/Familiar 48, 29 Aug. 2006
This review is from: Fade (Audio CD)
This album seems extremely hard to get so if your having trouble try picking up 'Wonderful Nothing' by Familiar 48 which is the same band just recording under a different name because of name rights. This is the first official release by the band, which has also had a brief period under the frontman's name Jayy Mannon, and is a great effort combining fantastic vocals with subtle guitars resulting in a unique and highly addictive sound. Many of the songs however have been reworked and in my opinion greatly improved on the release as Familiar 48, therefore if your new to the band I would suggest picking up 'Wonderful Nothing' before searching for this album, on the other hand, if you're already a Familiar fan then this album is a great addition to your collection! po

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Good band Unknown In The UK, 6 July 2006
This review is from: 12 Stones (Audio CD)
I picked up this CD on the basis of two things, firstly reviews on Amazon.com were favourable and secondly on the back of the lead singers guest appearance on the Evanescence single 'Bring Me To Life'. However, at this point (apart from a few samples)I did not know what there music was about and how it would sound, upon recieving the CD I was pleasantly suprised. Their style mixes strong vocals and melodic choruses with a hard rock edge giving a style which is uniquely their own. The result is a fantastic album which will be enjoyed by many rock fans but is especially good for fans of bands such as Creed and Silvercrush.

Overall a great album from a band that has blended a unique style with great song-writng ability. Personal favourites from this album include 'The Way I Feel', 'Crash' and 'Broken'.

Try this, if you like it then pick up their second album 'Potter's Field'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great vocals, solid musicianship., 13 May 2006
This album is a fine example of the little known band not being recognised for the quality they produce, jeremiah freed have an american alternative-style sound with strong vocals provided by the singer, good song-writing ability backs this up and the result is an album full of generally good tunes, the first half of the album is admittaly much stronger than the second with 'again' and 'rain' being definite highlights, the second half is slightly disapointing but the first half is good enough to compensate for this with 3 or 4 songs which will stick with you for months (whether you want them to or not). This album is well worth buying is if your a fan of the genre and like bands in the style of bliss 66, dakona or familiar 48. Just a shame none of their other material is available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent american alternative rock, 6 April 2006
This review is from: Radiance (Audio CD)
Athenaeum were for a short while one of my favourite bands, their fairly unique style seemed to work for my musical taste, A very good album for fans of american alternative music or even just rock music for that matter, personal favourites include 'flat tire' and 'away'. Try this if you like catchy pop-rock music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good tunes, some filler, 18 May 2005
This review is from: Stay (Audio CD)
The first impression i got of this album was that the stand-out tracks really were that, however, there are some not so good tracks included here which means having to skip tracks which can be inconvenient. Conversely, the stand-out tracks including 'I Know you're calling' and 'walk by faith' are still of a good enough quality to warrant the album 4 stars. Fans of christian rock and christian music in general will really relate to this release and to them this will be a definite 5 star LP, however non-christians may find some of the lyrics devoid of meaning and it may therefore be harder to get involved in the lyrical meaning. Overall a good album with 4 or 5 really good tracks that fully warrants a 4 star rating.
