This review is from: The Teacher (Paperback)
Sadly, the author can't write correctly formulated sentences and her editor has failed to correct this. I know this isn't really an issue when reading some of the modernists but when you're writing your first novel, you've got to make an effort with these things. If I were a builder and constructed walls this badly, I'd be sued. The misuse of the semi-colon on the first page is pretty amusing but I wasn't expecting a comedy. I don't want to be mean but frankly this book deserves a poor review and Harper Collins need to get rid of the person who failed to edit it.

Unlike the others I have owned, it has a strap which enables it to remain on your wrist. I'm surprised that they have only just discovered this fairly well established technical advancement. Well done Fitbit; I lost the other two.

This is distilled brilliance. You will ache with its loveliness. Nothing is wasted. Reminds me of reading James Salter in that sense.

Tropic of Cancer (Harper Perennial Modern Classics)
Tropic of Cancer (Harper Perennial Modern Classics)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Song for us All, 17 Nov. 2010
Miller takes the rag and bone shop of the human heart and makes music out of it. His prose is deceptively simple or rhapsodically elevated. It's a celebratory affirmation of what it means to be alive, albiet in circumstances which most tabloids would condemn. If he was living now he'd probably be forced into a bit of free labour just to get him him back into the 'habit of work.' The book shows what it means to have the courage to be free.
