5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute delight to own!, 21 Oct. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Cosgrove Hall's 'The Wind in the Willows' is a true classic of British animation, and in this long-awaited box set you get all 65 20-minute episodes plus both films, spread across 11 discs! I would recommend this to...ANYONE and EVERYONE! Anyone who loves great stop-motion animation would love this, and equally anyone who loves the peace and tranqulity of the English countryside that Kenneth Grahame so brilliantly captured in his original book would love this too. Released in the month of the novel's 100th anniversary (and, coincidentally, the year of the original film's 25th anniversary), this box set is beautifully presented, and you will find that the episodes just get better and better as you watch them. I would always give 'The Wind in the Willows' 5 stars for its sheer quality in storytelling, animation, humour, and craftmanship in every detail! Thankyou, Fremantle, for finally releasing the entire collection! Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderfully Unique Read, 29 Jan. 2008
There is no other book like this one. Most animation books are either theoretical, or teach you 'how' to animate. It's great that we have those but at last we have a book written from the heart, by a man, and his interviewees, who are truly passionate about their craft - the art of Stop Motion (a.k.a. Model Animation). Barry Purves is renowned in the animation industry for his marvellous films, such as 'Next', 'Achilles' and 'Gilbert & Sullivan - The Very Models', as well as for working on classic series such as 'The Wind in the Willows' (my favourite) and 'Chorlton and the Wheelies'. This book covers all of Barry's major influences, and takes you on a journey through, literally the title: passion, process and performance. It is difficult to put the book down, simply because it is so packed with information and inspiration that will open your mind, not to mention the many accompanying illustrations. I would highly recommend this to any fan or student of animation, or indeed any related craft, because it is truthfully written from the heart. A wonderful book.
