I bought the book to assist me with ancestry research. It helped enormously and enabled me to locate what I believe to be a grave of some of my ancestors.
It also gave some interesting history on a little known area in West Wales which is just a short distance from Laugharne of Dylan Thomas fame.

How Corrupt is Britain?
How Corrupt is Britain?

Whilst we all know how those in positions of power look after one another to enhance their personal gains it takes a book like this to show how endemic this has become in Britain. Ministers of all political leanings give access to corporations to develop government policies and then when their political life is at an end, and sometimes during their political life, they are rewarded for their services by business corporations.
This corrupt neo-liberalism is now like an epidemic in Westminster and is something every voter in the UK should give some thought to when placing their "X" against their candidate in both national and local elections. Failure to do this will put individuals into positions of power to satisfy their own needs not those of the electorate. These should be positions of Public Service not opportunities for personal gain.

It highlights the desperation of the life of the Welsh working (or perhaps more appropriately the unemployed) people in those times. They made very brave decisions and their diligence enabled them to make a life for themselves and their families albeit a hard one. Let us hope that people of Wales and other parts of the UK will not have to make this type of decision again against the backdrop of poverty although the way this ideologically driven government are going I would not rule it out.

I have been searching for this book, at a reasonable price for months. I was brought up in the area where this racetrack used to be and wondered why the area is still referred to as the racetrack. This book reveals all. It even includes a piece on the history of The Manselton Hotel where I have quaffed a few pints in years gone by. Obviously it will be of most interest to Swansea residents (Jacks) or exiles like myself but it does also cover the history of other previous racetracks in Wales.
The book was good value, it was in excellent condition and arrived promptly. Although not a large book ,100 pages, it gave me immense pleasure and filled in another piece of history about my beloved birthplace, Swansea.

Sailing Close to the Wind: Reminiscences
Sailing Close to the Wind: Reminiscences

4.0 out of 5 stars If only there were more politicians like Dennis Skinner we might not be in the ideological ..., 13 Jan. 2015
If only there were more politicians like Dennis Skinner we might not be in the ideological driven mess we are in at the moment. He is a man of Principal and there are not many like him about today. His views explained in this book including those on The Royal Family and on patronage make common sense particularly in this age of austerity. I do however feel that he could have made more of an impact on socialist policy had he accepted a ministerial post. I do not feel that simply because his selection as a minister would have been by The Prime Minister, rather than by a more democratic party system, would have been seen as an act of patronage by the electorate. There have been a number of rebel socialist ministers over the years and they have sometimes had more impact than an M.P. shouting from the back bench.
He might well have left himself open to the criticism of being frightened of taking responsibility. I do not take that view and this book is a very good read and left me wishing that there were more politicians like Dennis Skinner. A man of honesty and integrity, a dying breed.

This book gives an insight into the Pakistan/India Kashmiri problem as well as explaining in detail the horrendous experience of the innocent victims and their families. It is obviously extremely well researched and shows how intense and precarious the relationship between India and Pakistan is/was.
With hindsight it is an illustration of how the threat from Islamic fanaticism has grown to global proportions and how a minority, although a growing minority, manipulate a peaceful faith to meet their perverse ideology. It is a reminder to people of all faiths and religions that this type of fanaticism must be defeated.
