5.0 out of 5 stars A cartographic classis, 28 Mar. 2014

This is the first ever atlas to be released, and as such a sure must-have for anyone interested in old maps and cartography. I only hope there will come an English (or Norwegian) version soon, since I'm not able to read the texts in German here.

This review is from: Blaeu. Atlas Maior (Hardcover)
One of the most magnificent atlases ever made. This reprint of the original work from 1665 is superbly done, and they've made sure to include the original foreword from Joan Blaeu, giving us an insight to how they worked then. There's also a modern foreword that puts the atlas into its historical context. You'll spend hours looking at the maps in awe. Indispensable for anyone who calls themselves a map buff.

A History of the World in Twelve Maps
A History of the World in Twelve Maps
by Jerry Brotton
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable, 15 April 2013

If you want to read the full history about maps, but don't have the time to read the multivolume «The History of Cartography», then this is the one. Brotton gives you everything from the early Greeks and upward in a masterful language.
