3.0 out of 5 stars nice enough, 17 April 2005
This review is from: The Face (Paperback)
To be honest i'm not a big fan of mr. Koontz, and this book has not changed my opinion. The ending is a bit of a downer, although i liked the story itself. Corky is a very interesting character, but Fric is a bit of a joke. A very unnatural character. Still, this is one of Koontz better books.

5.0 out of 5 stars finally! some talent!, 16 Aug. 2003
These are Godforsaken times. With everybody being completely pre-occupied with PopIdol and Eminem being considered a poet (go figure that one out) it's getting difficult to take anything seriously. But no fear! There are still people out there who give a damn! There are still people out for whom there is more on the horizon! Devendra Banhart is such a person.
DB took his dictaphone and his old guitar and started to record some demos. Michael Gira (Swans) heard these and decided they were too good not to be heard by the rest of the world. Give the man a medal! This is a truly inspiring and original disc!
You have to be able to handle DB's strange choirboy-gone-mad kind of voice. It's an androgynous voice that can turn you nuts or makes you fall in love with it. Sometimes it sounds sad, sometimes sweet, sometimes downright scary. But it remains very powerful throughout the album. It is DB's strongest weapon.
I hope we are gonna hear a lot more from DB in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars sheer genius, 15 Aug. 2003
This review is from: The Glow Vol.2 (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying this: Phil Elvrum, the main man behind Microphones has his own rules when it comes to recording music. Songs may start very silently and almost shy before they explode with incredible bursts of noise. Songs may start at the end and end right in the middle, acoustic guitars swimming from left to right and back again, sometimes in key, sometimes not. Phil may sing, but also shout or cry or do whatever, it doesn't matter because it always goes straight to your heart and sends shivers through your body.
This is music as you have never ever heard before. They say it's from Anacortes, WA in the USA, but i'm not sure. It could also be from a completely different solarsystem.
Do yourself a favour and get this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars their finest, 15 Aug. 2003
Genesis sans Peter Gabriel never ever got close to creating such exciting albums as "Foxtrot", "Selling England by the Pound" and of course this one. An incredible tour-de-force.
